Thanks Chris, it hasn't happened for ages. It seems to happen when I don't go into a deep sleep, which is why I try not to fall asleep in front of the TV anymore. My son suffers from it too.

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments On abit of a lighter note........I love dreaming about flying thru the air in my dreams. The other night, I was in some kind of a small floating balloon chair deal, floating thru a fine blue gel, looking down at the water in Cayman. The colors were sparkling and simply beautiful.........

This is my kind of dreaming.

My hubbs dreams, night after night, of hitting the lottery and all the cool things he would do with the winnings. He dreams this, night after night. Our psychic tells him that he is the sort of person who will hit an actual lottery.
We keep trying. $2 a week!!!!!

message 2956: by Dawn (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments Another Monday morning at work!! I missed all the fun on here over the weekend. I had another round with the stomach flu and didn't feel like doing anything. I'm glad everyone is doing OK, especially you Sean!!

I'm stressing becuase I am thinking about retiring from the state of Delaware (litte over 30 years) and taking a job with the juvenile justice system in Maryland. I would have my pension AND make more money in MD then I did in DE. I would work in MD for another 10 to 15 years and get another pension (I'd only be 61 to 66 yrs old when it's all said and done). By that time I could start getting social security, a full and a partial pension and have plenty of money to travel.

It stresses me to think of starting over at another job in another state. I'm starting to get tired. I think I would be foolish not to take advantage of the opportunity though and I am tired of pinching pennies. Thoughts anyone, input????????? I don't have to make a decision right away. I'm trying to look at it as a new adventure.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 1127 comments While money certainly isn't the answer to all life's problems, Dawn, it certainly makes them easier to cope with. If you are working hard and not having enough spare money at the end of the week to enjoy life, I can imagine that being a big grind.

Being in the UK, I don't know how each state compares. Are they equally nice places to live? How much would you miss colleagues you presently work with. Are you comfortable making friends with new colleagues? Lot to weigh up.

If you are the adventurous type, and the balance is equal save for the money, I say go for it.

Good morning, Dawn. I hope you are feeling better today. You have to take care of yourself. I think this is a great opportunity for you, and sometimes a change is as good as a rest. Nobody can tell you what you should do...but the fact that you are asking your friends, to me means you have already made up your mind, but just looking for reassurance.

When I left the government after 25 years, I was scared and wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I believe in God, and when one door closes, another one opens. We bought a 3 bedroom bungalow in a super area and I opened my own business. It was the best decision I made.

I hope you are feeling better dawn. I am afraid I have no idea of the geographical problems that a move like the one you are considering would involve. however the way I would look at it is - can I do anymore where I am? can I make any differences in the job I am considering? what are the pros and cons of each? is fear the only thing that is stopping me? what is the worst that could happen if I make the move? would I regret it if I didn't.

Take care and don't stress over the decision. we have a saying that we often use - what is for you wont go past you xx

Dawn, this is obviously a very personal decision and any advice that's given comes colored with that other person's experience, circumstance and perception and has to be accordingly treated.

that said, i restarted my life and career four times now and each time there was a geographical uprooting involved.

i haven't ever regretted the changes and the upheaval that went along with those. more money was a factor in all those changes (it usually is :))

Sue, I am sending you a big hug and huge empathy and simpatico. I have insomnia and part of my problem is a general achiness in shoulders and lower back; you must be so weary, too. I think we are in the same boat: MD, DEL and NJ

message 2975: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments My first time on this thread in more than a day, I guess. Dawn, you are certainly young enough to start a new job in a new place and look at it as an adventure, not something to be feared or dreaded. Collecting a pension AND a paycheck is certainly appealing, as is the prospect of yet another pension in 15 years! What are the drawbacks? Have you written down the pros and cons? Family and friends nearby in DE? Or in MD? How do the jobs compare? If very different, are you feeling like you need new and different, perhaps more challenging (or maybe less BS, politics, whatever)? Or do you find comfort in doing what is familiar? While I haven't ever been in a single job for 30 years, I have changed jobs after 15 years and another after 9 years, so I know that it can be a scary thing, but it's also exciting, and for me, it turned out well. Good luck to you, whatever you decide!

Dawn - I worked with students thinking of making a career change to go into nursing. You seem plenty young enough to make a change and still have a second pension. I remember a statistic that stated most people have 6 to 8 careers in their lives so I understand it is scary to do but you would not be a 'disloyal' employee to make a change. Most times, the new hires get more money than those that have been in for a while even though that is so unfair.

message 2980: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments And, I wanted to add that while I'm sorry everyone seems to have some peculiar sleep habits, I'm glad to hear of it. Misery loves company you know. I can never turn my brain off to get to sleep so I lay awake and watch the clock. I've gotten better about getting up and reading instead but I can be awake until 3 or 4 or even 5am and then fall asleep until noon. I keep setting alarms to "right" myself but so far no such luck. I think I need more sunlight and less winter gloom.

message 2981: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall I was so sleepy this afternoon it was hard not to doze off but I managed it - getting up of a morning and going doing a tough workout always makes me sleepy mid afternoon!! in fact I have learnt that a powerdoze works wonders (cant call it a powernap as I am aware of whats going on I just have my eyes shut)

as I head off to bed I wonder what delights my imagination will treat me to tonight - lasts nights movie of horses that looked like giraffes was bizarre lol

What have you got to lose Dawn? I have shifted countries twice (in my 40's on my own and without a job lined up) and wouldn't have missed doing it for anything. Last time I was in my 50's and came back to NZ with my new husband to buy a restaurant/bar. Planning on selling it this year and moving back to Australia with no clear idea of what I want to do, other than live close to a beach (and read)! This time I will be in my 60's.
Or you could get all Don Tillmanish (Have you read The Rosie Project?) and do a spreadsheet.
Best advise - follow your gut instinct.
Good luck whatever you decide. 8:D

Jean, you make so much sense and give great advice: Dawn has everything in her favor, too.. I think, Dawn, you need some rest, time to shake the stomach bug and we all need sun and warmth.

Heather Burnside (goodreadscomheather_burnside) | 385 comments Thank you Pat. It sounds as though you have a bad time sleeping and you have my sympathy.
Sue, I'm sorry to hear about your back problems. It must be awful for you.
Dawn, I'm afraid I'm not very well up on the geography of the US so I've no idea how far away you would have to travel to your new job. Would you be able to visit family and friends at the weekends or would it be a total break? I think that would be the biggest factor to consider for me.

Freda Malone | 418 comments Good Morning. I have a question. I've seen very short moving clips and photos posted in reviews. Can someone please show me the brackets needed to insert the url/jpg image?

message 2988: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 1127 comments Like this Freda. Type < img src="paste the web address here"/ > (no spaces between the < and the > though.

The above is OK if the picture is already online, and there are different ways of adding pictures to these posts. This is the method I employ:

Open a photobucket account (free for basic membership) http://s72.photobucket.com/

Upload a picture from hard-drive to photobucket.

In photobucket, open the picture you wish to post. To the right of the picture are four options for you to copy, under the heading 'links to share this photo'. You'll need the HTML one to post on here.

Copy the HTML. Post it in the message box as it is. Hey presto! Your picture appears.
