Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Try boiling a pot of water with sliced lemons.

message 2556: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments White vinegar may help, too. Pour some in small containers and leave them around to absorb the smell.

Haven't got any lemons but one to remember. Think I have vinegar, will try that. I threw open the kitchen door and windows but it's nearly 8 pm and freezing. Blinking husbands!!!!

Dawn G | 692 comments I have been MIA from GR for several days and have missed talking to my buddies. Been working very long hours and I struggle with the holidays since the death of my dad a few years ago. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am ready for some snow and lots of it!!

I absolutely can't stand the way the house smells after cooking fish.

You have been missed Dawn! Glad you had a good Thanksgiving and good to see you back. There's still a fishy smell lingering. Grrrrr!

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Hi Dawn, glad you are back. My mother would create Hallmark Christmases. I am with you in not feeling it too much this year. I hope you get some time off just to get an oasis from work!

Janet, I can't stand fish and now see a real benefit to that. LOL.

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Hi Dawn, glad you are back with us. I have been busy being bad, and ordering books from Amazon for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I also made quite a dent at LL Bean, and received 2 purchases today, and more coming on Friday and next week. It is bad where you inbox is full of confirmation notices for purchases and delivery dates. I promise to be better next year!!!

Sue, my inbox looks like that, too! I love seeing the UPS truck pull in! And LL Bean. I just bought a wonderfully warm robe from them. I could spend all day in this robe with a good book.

message 2579: by [deleted user] (new)

I know others have complained of this, but why.. Just why do people leave stupid reviews on Amazon, for example; giving a book '3 stars' and then stating they're only a third through the book..... Whaaaat?

Does. My. Head. In. !!

message 2580: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I know, Kimberley. Or they give it 1 star after reading 50 pages. Same thing I guess. Most unfair to the author.

message 2581: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Kimberley, it's when they give one star and say they haven't read it yet??!!! A classic!!

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Christine wrote: "I know, Kimberley. Or they give it 1 star after reading 50 pages. Same thing I guess. Most unfair to the author."

I have been guilty of this, but only if it's nearly impossible to get through those first 50 pages on several attempts.

Hi Lorrea! You are very brave to admit that. Kimberley and Janet, shall we pardon Lorrea?

message 2585: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
I see what Lorrea is saying. Sometimes it is impossible to finish a book and you're well entitled to give a review/star rating. That's fine. What I object to is when a rating is given and the reader hasn't even READ the book. That seems ridiculous to me!! What are they basing their rating on?!!

message 2586: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 146 comments I have been guilty of it too, but only when it hsa been so bad that it is too painful to go on - I don't do it when its just "not my thing".

message 2587: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Christine we shall! ;)
I know where you're coming from Lorrea, some books you pick up and just cannot get into, for whatever reason, so you think .. Right Ok...Draw a line under that and give a low rating for the reasons you don't like it.

But like you said Janet, it's when people are "still currently" reading it and plan to finish it.... But still give it a star rating before reaching the end?! I don't get it.

message 2588: by [deleted user] (new)

And Janet, LOL, like you said those are the absolute best when...

They haven't read it but are rating it.

What the ....

message 2589: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 1708 comments I've run across a couple authors who write multiple comments promoting their book in the review section and give their books five stars each time. The only thing I can figure they are doing is trying to pad their book rating to keep it high.

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) | 798 comments I am prolly 3000 messages behind. I need to sleep with my ipad to get caught up!!!!

My hubby went into the hosp to have a simple 2 cm (ow) kidney stone removed and it turned out to be a little more than we expected. He is doing fine.......but it's been a rough couple of days.

And...........I broke my contract with my Realtor..........so I have had my hands full.
I feel bad about missing comments.........and chatting with my GR buddies. But........hubby and the house comes first.

Missing y'all.

As for the house........we will probably relist after Jan 1.
Just trying to catch my breath now.

message 2595: by Dawn (new)

Dawn G | 692 comments So this is where the regulars are hanging out! I've been trying to catch up on some posts and everyone's scattered about. But I see more of my good friends posting here. Well I guess it is chat, chat, chatter. Anyway, Ter'e I had noticed you were MIA as well. I hope that everything is still going well with your husband. Do you plan to list with a different Realtor? It has to be stressful trying to sell your home. Chris I hope your doing okay as well! I've missed you guys. Sue I would love to live near you to read your hand me downs. None of my friends or family read regularly, or at all for that matter, so I have no one to swap books with. I couldn't imagine a life without reading.

message 2596: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Yes, whoever lives near me, I currently have 4 or 5 large cartons of like new novels, hard cover and paperback sitting in the basement. I also have to organize my bookcases in the basement, all built-in bookcases. Nic Nats need to be removed and replaced with books. I probably have over 80 best seller hard cover/paperbooks, just in my office alone to-read.

Back on for a few minutes, third day of my stall. one more day to go !!

Today our busiest day by far, cold but dry.

I have taken some pictures which I will add as some stage, to my home page, or group home page.

Nine hours today and tomorrow, but then have to pack everything up tomorrow which takes at least an hour.

Then rest, no more shows this year.

Tonight rest then Strictly, X Factor and Celebrity !

message 2598: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Sean, or anyone from UK, does the name Strictly Come Dancing seem odd or off to you? The Strictly part just really catches my attention. My teachers are strict. I read strictly Fiction. It's a very rigid and unyielding word. So when you come strictly dancing does that mean anything but dancing not allowed? I know I'm over thinking it! :)

message 2599: by Christine (last edited Dec 06, 2014 01:02PM) (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Well, my dad and I are back in the ER. He had another passing out spell this AM. Luckily I had a home health care person stop in this morning as she found him. Probably some sort of cardiac arrythymia which is gone now or an electrical heart block episode. Frustrating that we cannot pinpoint the issue. And as long as we don't know the issue, we vpcan't really fix it, which means he is a great risk for more spells. Unless they want to empirically try a pacemaker, which I doubt the cardiologists will be thrilled about doing in an almost 96 year old man. Big decisions coming up for me. Oh, to boot, his former employer is dropping its group health plan meaning I have to go into the exchange and line up private Medigap insurance for him by Dec 31. Luckily I have a telephone appt with an advisor to help me with that Monday. Lots of waiting time here in the ER as they search for a hospital room for Dad. I just read or talk to you guys as he snoozes.
