Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Hello!! I hope this new year brings health, happiness, prosperity and lots of good reading to us all!!

I've gotten a few messages about Book Pals, so I've started a thread to see how many people are interested in starting this back up.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Please comment on that thread if you are interested and hopefully we'll have enough interest to start it up again.

Lynn Renee | 1708 comments This question is about another group because for some reason I can access everything on Goodreads except the Goodreads Choice Awards Book Club. This has been happening for two days now and is very aggravating. I know there are a few people in The Good Thriller group that are also in the other group too. Is anyone else having difficulties accessing the group or have any suggestions?

message 9657: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I am in both groups and I have had no problems. That is so weird. Did you try going to "community" then to "groups" to see if it is listed as one of your groups?

Yes I have attempted to enter the group that way. I have also manually entered the group name and tried to enter the group thru threads in my message alert. For some reason it just keeps turning it's wheels until it times out. I would think that it might be my data signal, but I can get into all the other groups I belong to so it can't be that. I have also tried using three different browsers with the same results. I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit and go to Starbucks and see if I can sign in on their wireless signal. It is 11°F right now, not sure if I am up to going out into that cold. Thank you for responding back to my question Vicki.

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) There's a hurricane that's heading towards my island and it's almost certain that there will be no power and no internet for me for about a week, until things get back in order. So for those of you whose reviews I like, I apologize to them and hope that the least amount of harm is caused by this cyclone Berguitta.

Heather (hlowrylong) | 6 comments Luffy - you are in Mauritius?
American weather forecasters estimate that your hurricane (cyclone in your geography) is around a Category 2 -- 130-169 km/h (80-100 mph), but estimated less rainfall than you received from Ava. Please take cover and be careful -- I am a Floridian in the US who has survived through several of these storms... stay safe!!

message 9665: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) Thank you all, ladies, there has been little rain, but it's the cyclonic winds that can cause damage for me. But I'm not threatened personally.

@Heather : I'm impressed that you took the time to conduct this fast research. I'm enjoying reading your reviews:)

Vicki Willis Take care Luffy. Stay safe!

Heather (hlowrylong) | 6 comments Luffy, thank you! That's quite an honor coming from you; your reviews are outstanding! I have to digest each book over a while, so I don't review many, especially as I frequently find my thoughts are already articulated and expressed in others' reviews ... but every once in a while, I can't keep my opinion to myself :-D

Btw - Mauritius & Madagascar are part of my bucket list to see someday - the pictures of your part of the world are just stunning ... be careful during the storm!!

Happy birthday to veteran actress Kim Novak 85 years old.

And a special mention to Rhonda Fleming, who will be 96 years old in August.

Among her co-stars over the years were Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, Glenn Ford, Burt Lancaster, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Rock Hudson and Ronald Reagan

And for nearly forty years has done so much work for cancer.

In private life she resides in Century City, California, and was married for 23 years to Ted Mann, a producer and chairman of Mann Theatres, until his death in January 2001. She is a member and supporter of Childhelp USA, ARCS (Achievement Rewards For College Scientists); a Life Associate of Pepperdine University; a Lifetime Member of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge; a Founding Member of the French Foundation For Alzheimer Research; a Benefactor of the Los Angeles Music Center: and a Member of the Center's Blue Ribbon Board of Directors. She is a Member of the Advisory Board of Olive Crest Treatment Centers for Abused Children and serves as a Board of Directors Trustee of World Opportunities International. Along with her husband she helped build the Jerusalem Film Institute in Israel. She also is a member of the Board of Trustees of The UCLA Foundation and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Revlon/UCLA Women's Health Research Program. In addition, she created at the City of Hope Hospital The Rhonda Fleming Mann Research Fellowship to further advance research and treatment associated with women's cancer.

In 1991, she and her husband established the Rhonda Fleming Mann Clinic for Women's Comprehensive Care at UCLA Medical Center. This clinic provides a full range of expert gynecologic and obstetric care to women. Since 1992, she has devoted her time to a second facility at UCLA - the Rhonda Fleming Mann Resource Center for Women with Cancer, which opened in early 1994. This Center is the fulfillment of her vision to create a safe, warm place where women cancer patients and their families might receive the highest quality psychosocial and emotional care as well as assistance with the complex practical problems that arise with cancer. In August 1997, the Centre opened "Reflections", a unique retail store and consultation suite that carries wigs, head coverings, breast prostheses and other items to help men, women and children deal with the physical appearance changes brought on by cancer and its treatments. The staffs of the clinic, centre and store are guided by her belief that caring, compassion, communication and commitment are essential components of the healing process.

PS... just an interesting fact I thought for us to chat about !

Yes the great Harlan Coben, but also Linwood Barclay, Brian Freeman, David Baldacci.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) David Baldacci books are great to listen to. Just make sure you're not doing any activities that you could hurt yourself while listening. The first time I listened to Baldacci on audio, gunshots rang out in my ear as I was carrying laundry down the steps. I nearly broke my leg! LOL!!

Guys - namely HornFan2 and Perri. Don't know what happened there with the link but obviously it was wholly inappropriate. Obviously a mistake somewhere in the links.

I've deleted your comments as well as Sean's as an easy way of getting rid of the image altogether and hope that you can accept our apologies for the mistake. Got a bit of a shock myself!! Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Preaching to the choir, Amber. Poor Billy's going to be really surprised when he discovers that God cared more about how we treat each other than who we sleep with.
