Christine and Sue, isn't it funny how we both speak the same language, but we call things by different names. As for why us Aussies decided to call a Duvet a Doona, I have no idea, although I think ours is much lighter in weight, it is usually filled with wool, or Dacron filling similar to what you get in pillows.

just lost my love for a book I was reading :( set in ancient Greece and the guy dismounts his horse in the drive! I know the Greeks were considered to be progressive but I didn't think they called them driveways!!!
Hi all,
yesterday spent 5-6 hours doing a car boot sale, opened the boot of the car, and they were checking the cd's and books.
Sold over 150 books for 50p.

I am getting no notifications/emails from Goodreads at all. Is anyone else having the same problem? Resetting did no good.

Hey everyone. For some reason notifications isn't currently working and hasn't been for a while. I didn't know if it was just a UK thing but it looks like it's all over. I checked my settings and uninstalled my app, it's a GR thing. If you go to homepage and click on unread you can see all the new conversations highlighted in red.
I haven't been able to receive any either.......but..........I haven't been looking for anything. I have been nuts?!!!!!!i don't think I stood on my pedestal yet and screamed to everyone that we have a contract on our house. YEA!!!!!!!! We aced the inspection and the appraisal........just one more slight hurdle to jump.......
Needless to say, I have ahed alot of tears on this one. I was so afraid it would not happen. I really didn't keep the faith.........when I should have.
Our psychic told us the house would sell in March-April..........and we wrote the new contract on 4/30. I have been jumping with glee. I have also been making a huge box to take to GW......throwing out trash/papers like mad, and packing boxes. Shoot, I have not even finished packing my books yet. LOL. Packing like a beaver tho......
We should be on the road to Kansas City about 6/16 or so. Two dogs in crates, one parrot in a small cage and two old folks pulling a UHaul. A 53' jammed trailor will follow as soon as we have a house to move into.
PTL PTL!!!!!!!!!
T'ere...and a partridge in a pear tree??? Oh - no partridge, just the parrot! Take deep breaths and don't forget to take time out to relax! It will all come together as it should. You're gonna need some energy once you get to KC! (and don't pack ALL your books at once - you just might want to read a little bit before you go...
lol Titas ESP. I'm not getting alerts for notifications on the app, but I can read all the updates on the GR web site.
Off to work. Hopefully GR servers get their act together by the time I get home.
more muffins made - did some chocolate ones tonight too library visit done no books for me just for mum and now am sat watching tv trying to find the posts I not read on GR :)

Novak, my favorite, too. Only I think Nadal comes in second. I'm not too crazy about Murray. Then Federer.
I've got to get everything in order so all I can look forward to is sitting all day and watching:)
I didn't get any notifications, either, which was strange, I always do.
I cannot pull up my notifications on my apps or at work, it is so frustrating. Luckily, I can at home. But by then, I have missed out on so many things.
Sharon......Your muffins smelled good. I'm making Banana Nut Bread with pecans and choc chips today My new buyer and her mom are coming by tomorrow and I want to show them the yummy things that come out of my kitchen.
Their little 4 yr old wants to know if Blu comes with their new house. LOL. NOT!
Yummy. All this cake talk is making me hungry. I'm on a mission to fatten my dad up. He gave us a real scare as he's lost so much weight and we dreaded the worst. The doctors had already found an ulcer but it's now cleared up following treatment and the only other thing they found was an hiatus hernia following tests at the hospital yesterday. It's still a worry though as he's 86, terribly underweight, anaemic and vitamin deficient. Hopefully, now they've sorted the ulcer he'll improve and start to regain weight. I've told him to have some donuts and pork pies - lol.

Congratulations and good luck on the move. Are you moving for family or jobs? Or?

Many years ago, I had problems with a hiatal hernia and "potty problems" (to be delicate), and I was hospitalized for a bit. When I got out, I started eating frozen yogurt and within no time, I was good as new.Now I didn't gorge myself on it........but I subbed it for a meal........two meals actually.........and my problems calmed down. Very soothing to the belly.
Even now, if I get out of sorts..........I head to yogurt and if I am close, to TCBY.
(This Can't Be Yogurt).
Just my (home) remedy.
To gain weight, my mom used to drink O.J., raw egg and protein powder in a blender. She'd froth it up and drink it down.
I have never had a problem with needing to gain weight, since I was 3 mos old!!!!!
Heather, sorry to hear about your dad's health worries. Hard to eat when that ulcer and hernia make it unpleaant. Hope his medications help. I don't think citus or chocolates are recommended, nothing with a lot of acid, that could produce symptoms. (There's no M.D. after my name, however!) My dad just turned 88. Soon after my mom died, he was able to have the cataract surgeries that he had been putting off. Now they've just diagnosed atrial heart valve stenosis, so he needs a procedure for that next month. We're hoping it will just be the less invasive one rather than open-heart surgery. He's in pretty good shape for his age, but that's a tough surgery.

I think the hiatus hernia maybe caused the ulcer so it's important to keep the acid under control and help him gain weight at the same time. :)

I've been telling him for about two years that he would be better off living in sheltered accommodation but he likes his independence. Sheltered accommodation in the UK is administered by local government. Residents have their own apartments at ground floor level but there is a warden on site in case they need any help. They also have alarm systems in their rooms enabling them to summon help if they need it e.g. if they have a fall. So, they still have independence but they have help on hand too. I have tried to explain to him that it is different than living in care but he has bad memories of his own father living in a nursing home after having a stroke so he won't hear of it. Plus, he'll miss his garden but he's getting so infirm that he now struggles to look after it anyway.
Ter'e I'm so happy for you...so close to being with your kids again. Heather, so sorry to hear about your dad!! I hope he is back on the better side soon.

Just wanted to let you know that I am at camp all summer until Sept or October depending on the weather, on when winter rears it's head. My broadband signal is a bit spotty, but I do have one. So if I'm not heard from it will just be a signal issue.
enjoy lynnfeel like I haven't done any exercise for ages!!! managed 50kg for my front squat tonight that's an improvement of 5kg from the last time I did this for strength. then completed 153 reps of the exercises in the wod so feeling a bit better with myself. must not be so lazy in future.
Sounds brilliant, Lynn. Have a fabulous time. Hopefully you'll get enough signal to drop in from time to time. Take good care.
Have a great camp experience, Lynn. Let us hear from you if you can get online. Will miss you if you can't through but then will await to hear from you in the fall!!

As if you are a big lazy load, Sharon, lol!!
Ter'e - congratulations on selling the house. I know that's been stressful and now the move. But enjoy the move! I think the sell is always the hard part. Happy days ahead!!!Heather - sorry about your Dad. Milkshakes and yogurt are great advice as it has protein. Eggs are easy to eat and great for protein if Dad can cook. Best wishes to him and you.
Heather my mum is 5 and a half stone and is on yogurts and powders to try and get her weight up. high proteins are the best thing but watch you don't od on the protein too. mum thinks she can eat as much fatty stuff but she needs to remember she has to be healthy too lol
Sharon wrote: "Heather my mum is 5 and a half stone and is on yogurts and powders to try and get her weight up. high proteins are the best thing but watch you don't od on the protein too. mum thinks she can eat ..."Heather, do they have healthy shakes like Ensure or Boost in the UK?. Sharon is right, your dad needs a lot of good calories and not mostly fat as fat won't build muscle. Sorry he has been so ill. )-:
Lynn, I'm so glad you finally got away to camp! Enjoy!Heather and Jean, best wishes for your fathers. My Dad will be 86 this year, but his health is pretty good. I keep an eye on both my parents.
Lynn,What kind of camp are you going to? I hate to sound nosy......but the only camps I have been to have been for hookers.
Thanks to all of you for all the well wishes.
We lived outside KC, MO for 11 years and David retired from his first career at the age of 46. He shortly realized we enjoyed living and traveling......and so he began another career. The economy ended that pretty abruptly. So now he works a part time job.........just so he can stay busy and I can have some sanity. He has no hobbies.
So now, 20 yrs later........it's time to return to our beloved family and friends.......and enjoy our final days with our kids. plus, we just discovered we will become great grand parents in December.
We have great friends there.......I have several good hooking groups........and it will be fun to be helpful parents again. I am just so excited, I can't handle my excitement. The move, itself, will be hectic and stressful. But well worth it.
Traveling across the US with a parrot and two dogs??????? Oh joy!!!!! LOL.
Excited and so thankful.
I haven't been here long enough to know everyone very well, but congratulations Lynn, have fun.And congratulations Ter'e on becoming great-grandparents.
Janet, it sounds as if you're doing better, that's good.

Yes, I know what you mean. I was having a joke with him when I mentioned the donuts and pork pies. I know he won't eat them as he has high cholesterol and high blood pressure too. My brother in law said he's what's known as a 'creaking gate', when lots of things start going wrong in old age.
Christine wrote: "Sharon wrote: "Heather my mum is 5 and a half stone and is on yogurts and powders to try and get her weight up. high proteins are the best thing but watch you don't od on the protein too. mum thin..."My friend recommended Complan so I'm going to check it out. Apparently it's a milk based energy drink full of vitamins and minerals. :)
