Kimberley, Millie looks like a tortoiseshell, and are her eyes really blue?! I can't offer a name for the boy; I can never pick a name until I've spent some time with a cat. They are both adorable!

Oh. My. God!!

I think I've just seen the worst thing ever. Just as you think it can't get any worse. I'm watching Hoarding, Buried Alive. Hoarding stuff is one thing, people hoard and can still keep a fairly healthy home. Hoarding trash?? Living amongst thousands of cock roaches?! This couple are living in a rubbish dump, literally. They haven't thrown anything out in years, I mean YEARS?!!! They may as well pitch a tent on a landfill or rubbish dump and live there!!

And her name is Janet?!! Aaarrrggghhh!!

In my hood it would be "cracker", but that's a southern US slang thang.

message 5207: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments I will watch that show sometimes Janet and it is tragic the way some people will live. Definitely some psych issues going on there. I watch it because I then go on a tear around my house cleaning. I pray I never end up like that!

You're not wrong. This couple lost their son when he was a baby and of course I understand a terrible loss. But they gave up doing anything. And what about their surviving, he's effectively grown up in a rubbish dump. Couldn't bring home any friends from school, lying to everyone, making up excuses he was so embarrassed. Couldn't they have made an effort for him? It's all just terribly sad.

message 5209: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Yep, it's a mental illness. It's especially heartbreaking when animals are involved.

Funny you saying that, Christine, these guys had dogs. They've been taken away. If they don't clean up the house will be condemned.

At least they got the dogs out. Talk about animal torture...

Woo hoo, they turned things around, cleaned everything out. And they're much happier, as is their son and animals. Hope they stay happy!!

How about Shiro? It's Japenese for white. :)

message 5224: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Nora ! That is a lovely suggestion, I really like that.

Brenda, she is very dark almost black, with like tortoiseshell 'highlights' on her, with blue eyes. Very pretty. Which Is why I chose Millie, I think it's a pretty name. Think you are right I might need to spend time with the boy to decide a name, but I do really like the name Shiro now!
:-D

Kath Middleton | 235 comments When the children were small we had a white goldfish called Blanche. White, see. Mind you, the orange one was called Spot but he didn't have a spot on. The original orange fish did, but he went to the big bowl of water in the sky and Spot 2 was named in his honour.

General election today. Happy voting UKers!

I'm a believer in if one doesn't vote then don't moan....

My kids are both voting for the first time. My son sent a postal vote as he's away at uni but I'm taking my daughter to the polling station tonight. She's only 18 but has been watching all the debates on TV so that she can make an informed decision and she is adamant that she wants to vote.

“Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number-
Shake your chains to earth like
dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you
Ye are many-they are few.”

I've just looked it up. Yes, it was written about the Peterloo Massacre. I feel quite ignorant - I should have known that as a Mancunian.

Yes, I've lived in Manchester all my life and I love it. The city has quite a history. It also has all the advantages of a big city as well as being close to the countryside (Peak District and Lake District) and only an hour's drive from the coast.
I think I'll go now - I'm starting to sound like a tourism brochure - lol.
