Jenni Boyd | 152 comments I'm so glad you all enjoyed my little clip, I just loved how the dog just sits there watching. I would have loved to know what thoughts were going through his head.

Lynn Renee | 1708 comments I'm sure they were raised together. There are so many YouTube clips out there.

message 5154: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Boyd | 152 comments Lynn, you're probably right, I just love seeing things like this, it just proves that animals don't discriminate, and brings the question, why do we call someone who has been obscenely cruel, 'An Animal'?
Sorry, I got a bit dark there.

E. | 653 comments All time favorite cat toy in my house has been the little plastic ring from around the top of a milk jug.
Worst toy is wrapping/curling ribbon. It's like cat crack. It is sooooo not good for them but they can't help it. I just don't let it in the house.
Then of course there's the almighty empty box, or piece of paper on the floor. Even as small as 3x5 index card gets sat on.

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) | 66 comments The caps to most 2 liter bottles. Several of my cats hoard those things and love playing with them.

Hair bands, I have no idea why but kittens and cats love them. My cats steal mine all the time.

message 5157: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Boyd | 152 comments Nora aka Diva, I never had a cat of my own, I grew up with a cat called 'Fluffy' yeah, many comments for that one, but she was the only cat we ever had, she was mum's cat, and lived to a ripe old age of 25yrs old, mum has only recently been able to replace her, almost 30yrs later, she is a rescue cat, and the timing couldn't have been better, as mum needed someone after dad had gone, and gingermegs, funny because she is not ginger, but she is so timid and frightened of people, but her and mum hit it off like a house on fire, they have been so good for each other.

message 5158: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) | 66 comments Jenni, You don't have to use the whole username... Nora or Diva seperate are fine. :)
Anyway... I wasn't allowed a cat growing up. My mother is allergic so I was 28 when I got my first set of kittens. Stinkerlou and Xena. Spoiled those two were. I did do a lot of research on cats and have learned so much in the last 14 years. Done some fostering too. Yeah I am a crazy cat lady.

message 5159: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Boyd | 152 comments Sorry Nora, I guess old habits die hard, my mum always told me, if you are introduced to someone by a name, you call them that, no abbreviations! I'm undecided whether to call you Nora or Diva, I love Nora, as it reminds me of Nora Jones and I am a big fan of her music, but I also love the name Diva, it is different, and interesting.

message 5160: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) | 66 comments That's ok. I fully understand. When I first joined goodreads my username was DuctTapeDiva... So when I went to using my name I went with a combo of both so people would recognize me better. Lol

message 5161: by Paul (new)

Paul Alkazraji | 639 comments Just going back to Sue's point... From an author's point of view, I'd be surprised if a few three star reviews would ruin anyone's sales. A string of 5's looks a little unnatural. There are very few books that all readers rave about. Even classics on Goodreads garner a mixed bag of responses. If an author puts a work up for review, they should really be able to take the outcome on the nose politely. If it gets personal in tone, authors have the option to flag it up through GR 'central command'. Reviewers... tell it like it is! (Nicely of course!)

message 5162: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 235 comments I once gave an author a three star review. The book was... just okay. It had had many five star reviews and I hadn't agreed. I wasn't rude, but it hadn't done it for me. I got a very stinky reply to my review on Amazon about trashing another indie author. I'm not reviewing to massage the author's ego! It's very tempting to remove the review so you don't let people see someone being offensive to you. I left it there. His reply said so much more about him than it did about me. Again, he's lost customers - both me and a few friends.

message 5163: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Very good points, Kath! I have to say that some reviews that I read are quite offensive, rude, and uncalled for, but if someone writes an honest opinion stating why the book didn't strike a chord with him/her, I think that's something to be expected, isn't it? As Paul says, all 5s is really unrealistic. And a 3 really is still a decent rating - at least it is when I give it!

message 5164: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I am glad I wasn't the only person that came across this , Kath.

message 5165: by [deleted user] (new)

Agree with you there Jean!

message 5166: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I think that's ridiculous. I think, Kath, the person that berated you would've done that regardless. (I hope it wasn't the author.)

When I review, I try to be honest. If I don't like your book, I'll tell you. Believe me! But I'll also try to say WHY.

Also, as to 3 stars, Goodreads says that 3 stars stands for "I liked it". Not exactly a bad rating. I don't give a book 4 stars unless it really engaged me. And 5 stars? The book has to make me cry or it has to stay with me for days (or weeks) afterwards.

Just my humble opinion.

If an author doesn't want to be critiqued then don't write the book. Keep reviews simple, polite and not directed at the author them self. It's not rocket science!

message 5168: by Kath (last edited May 04, 2015 10:26AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 235 comments It was the author - for whom I have now lost any respect I may have had.
Edit to add it was an Amazon three stars. It was okay. He just wanted to be worshipped, I guess!

If all things were equal, I would then use appearance as the determining factor. I think the 2005 trail blazer looks better than the 2004 explorer.

Agree on that, Dawn. I always liked the looks of the Chevy Trailblazer.

The Chevy looks pretty, it's blue and the Ford is a tan brown. Either one will make me very happy. *keeping fingers crossed*. Whoever calls me first will make the sale. Yippie! So excited! Christine says I need to name my car. Does anyone else name theirs and what have you named it? :)

Sharon, I love your vocabulary. I'm learning a new word every time you speak. :)

I just had this discussion with a friend of mine today. I read a book that I DID NOT LIKE. I still gave it three stars because I thought she did a wonderful job in writing. Now the worst review I have Ever given a book was two stars and that was because it was beautiful writing, but I absolutely loathed that book. It made me depressed while I read it, and exhausted after each chapter that I read. It was a gorgeous book, see the two stars, but I did not like it. I take the rating scale literally. Most books get a four star review from me, unless it is something that I adore (it can be cheesy YA Lit, a classic, or an author I am devoted to) and then it will get five stars.

2. a state of excitement or anxiety; a tizzy

LOL Christine I will try and find some more words for you.

In fact if you like stooshie you will probably like tumshie (Scottish word used for turnip - often used in a derogatory manner by calling someone a tumshie heid (head))

Jean depends where he they stayed some places are more slang than others
