That's seriously stupid.. A 3 star is not a bad rating, it says the book is good. Jeez... if that's how a 3 star review was treated then how would the author react to a 2 star or 1 star review....

That's the point of review... it's not a paid endorsement...

message 5102: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Yes, I agree with your comments everyone. And like you said I rated it 3 star, which means I LIKED it, I didn't LOVE it, but that is my opinion. I remember confiding in 1 author, that I really admire, and telling her what had happened, and was this the" Norm", as I was new to the site and was at a loss. But later, I felt, what comes around...goes around, and I will never read anything by this author again. The issue was not with Goodreads but the fact that I put the "average rating" on Amazon. It was awhile before I felt comfortable with Amazon again. And you will see lots of 3 star or less on Amazon, so this was just a greedy author.

I personally don't look at a lot of reviews. If I want to read a book, then irrespective of what the majority of the reviewers feel, I would read it.

Not all people are same, so I trust that differences between people and make my own choice...

Also I have never done well with people telling me what to do...

thank you no it wont go back to normal to be honest I think overload is going to be the new normal!! I have managed to finish a couple but just not had time to get on and review them :( will try to catch up with that over the weekend

Sue if they want honest then that's what they should get and you should have told the author to write a better book if he / she wanted better reviews!!

My van that just died on me was a Chevrolet 2005. Being a northern car, It had around 80,000 miles on it. Rust was terrible, the car lasted me 4 years, 1 year after the loan was paid off. Heck even my power wheelchair's frame rusted in half due to the salt on our roads and sidewalks. But we do get buried in the winter here and hope to dig out by May lol.

message 5109: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Wow, that's a shame, Lynn. They must use more salt than us as it's usually too cold for ice storms here. We have sand all over the place though--a real mess in the winter!

Sharon Mccall ah sue we live and learn lol we can all look back and say what we should have done but situations at the time are hard to call.

well am booked up for my first away rugby international - off to see Italy v Scotland next February so that will be good.

have finished a couple of books today and managed to get caught up on some things that had recorded before my planner collapsed under the strain lol

cat just brought us a rat which was not so nice :(

message 5113: by [deleted user] (new)

That is shocking Sue, you are a better person than me. I'm afraid I would have kept the review on and like someone else said, perhaps added a small comment at the end explaining that the author asked me to delete my comment. Really awful!

Dash must have been very proud, Sharon. The worst present I ever received was a decapitated young red squirrel that my kitty Milly caught on the deck and brought to me in the dining room.

message 5115: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Sue, I find it incredible that an author would have the chutzpah to ask you to remove your review!
Sharon, you have a fierce hunter honoring you with gifts. Many years ago, my kitty, Schnooks, came trotting through the yard with a baby rabbit in her mouth. That bunny was almost as big as my cat. I was quite upset and made her give it up. I loved that cat - I called her "the Queen Mum" because she lived to the age of 22.

message 5116: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh I have so many things i want to achieve in my life: Read "Lord of the Rings", read "Harry Potter", Finish "a Song of Ice and Fire", read most of Stephen King's books, read "Divergent", read most of Patricia MacDonald's books, finish the Bourne series, read more James Patterson's, Simon Kernick's, Robert Crais, Franck Thilliez... But of course, there are other books... :D

"Dark Angel" to the rat! How many felines do you have, Sharon, 2 or 3?

message 5119: by Sharon (new)

To all cat lovers here I was wondering if you could give me some advice..

I'm looking to get a couple of kittens. I've never had cats before, although my mum has 5 and they are gorgeous.
I was thinking of buying two together, siblings from the same litter. I read this is a good thing to do? They will have a companion, and also is less stressful for them when I'm not at home.

Any thoughts? What can I expect??
Thanks for any advice! :)

message 5123: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments lol. Cat advice? With this group?

message 5124: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Two cats together is a fabulous idea! Kittens, especially, like to have playmates and another kitten to snuggle with. Yes, getting siblings - littermates - is good (although not necessary). Some siblings are very bonded; others, not so much. Are you answering ads, or are you going through a rescue group/Humane Society? I would ask the people you are getting the kitties from about the personalities and which ones are bonded, etc.

message 5125: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mccall Deffo get two and if they from same litter good. Means they already know each other

message 5126: by Sue (last edited May 03, 2015 10:28AM) (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I have 2 Labs that we bought as puppies from the same litter, and it was the best thing we did. They are company for one another, and play with each other, so less chance of trouble or mess. Now you will have lots of thoughts from our cat lovers/owners in the group. Best of luck. Share the LOVE!

message 5127: by [deleted user] (new)

I've found a little brother and sister, the last two left to be sold, they are very close apparently. Both identical, black and white. Absolutely adorable. 10 weeks old. Found them through a friend of a friend.

message 5128: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Kimberley wrote: "To all cat lovers here I was wondering if you could give me some advice.."

Here's my advice, FWIW.

1. Get two kittens. Just remember that doubles the expense (food, litter, vet bills, etc.)

2. Get them neutered. This is a MUST.

3. Keep them inside. They'll be healthier, and you'll never wonder why one didn't come home one day.

4. Play with them every day.

5. Provide a scratching post and be persistent in training them to use it.

6. Feed them the best quality food you can find, and make sure they always have fresh water.

7. Clean their litterbox every day.

8. Love them!

I always get them in two's.

Good company for each other.

message 5131: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments I've always had multiple cats (up to 5). They're kinda like M&Ms - hard to stop with one.
But right now I'm down to one, a very independent tom that snuggles with the dogs. It kinda freaks them out but they allow it.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Kim, go for it! I never knew what I was missing until I got my first cats. Now I don't see how I can live without them. Definitely get two. One kitten will be very lonely, will be after you all the time to play, and will get in lots of trouble!!!

This afternoon played tennis for 3 hours indoors (had to as booked by the club for indoors sessions)

Had to play sets of tennis, with ball boys and girls and lines people.

All practise and training for the start of the Island Games, in Jersey.

That was all fine, but the temperature indoors, with the sun coming in, it was like a greenhouse/sauna.

It was 117 Fahrenheit indoors, my opponent is 15 years younger than me.

Played two sets one set all 6-3 and 3-6.

Kids need some more practise, they have another 4-6 sessions.

Lost some weight and exhausted.

message 5136: by Aymen (new)

Aymen Ben cheikh Thank you Jean :)

message 5137: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2387 comments Excellent advice, Brenda! Especially scratching posts - do not declaw as this actually amputates the digits of the paw! It causes extreme pain to the cat, and it can cause deformity, walking difficulty, and/or arthritis later in life. We have one kitty who was declawed as a kitten. Now she is 16, and the poor girl walks like she is tiptoeing on hot coals. Re: playing - provide toys, but don't go overboard. They will provide their own entertainment and make toys of your shoelaces, pencils, boxes, etc. Be careful with kittens, though, until you learn their habits and what kinds of things they are attracted to. One of our older cats loves to chew on/eat plants, plastic, and ribbon, so we have to keep those things away from her!

I have two and they are best friends. They clean each other, play together, etc. They love each other so much and will snuggle together. If one of them is away from the other, they will get stressed out! They are very sweet!

Mine were not littermates either. I rescued them from the shelter. I went for one, but gave in and got both, and the lady said, "Oh, thank goodness. They are best friends. They sleep together in the cat tree and play together every day." I was so happy.

You've gotten some really good advice Already. I'll add that it's better to have one litter box more than you have cats. So 2 cats and 3 litter boxes.
