ABANDONED. David, Goliath, modern day, plague. Has the feel of a Clive Cussler book.

Book starts with a man fleeing a Roman (I believe)soldier in the desert around the time of Christ with an object he must keep safe. Then jumps to modern day. Involves a special military/govt group that is trying to prevent a plague. Has a "David and Goliath" theme. Also has the "feel" of a Clive Cussler book. I read it about 10-15 years ago.

I don't remember the cover. It is closest to a thriller. As I said, it is somewhat like a Clive Cussler book. SPOILER ALERT (possibly): I don't know if the main male character's name was David, but I think it was intimated he was King David reincarnated to battle Goliath (although it isn't a religious book). The Goliath character, I believe was found in a sarcophagus and was carrying a plague. The main character was leading a special govt/military unit trying to stop the release of the plague.

Maybe something by Frederick Forsyth? I don't think I've read this particular book but the plot sounds like something he would write.

Thanks, but none of those. As I recall, it is mostly about stopping the antagonist Goliath figure before his body eventually releases a disease/plague. Not so much about an ongoing pandemic. It was a lot like a Covert One (Robert Ludlum)team but with a little more.....mystical(???)parts.

Other than it being David it is a close match.
They are cloning someone from Roman times who may be jesus to fight a plague.
The plague turns people translucent.

Cain was close, but not it. It is possible I am mixing two books but I don't think so. I believe Year Zero is newer than the book I read, but I am going to get a copy and check it out. It sounds great regardless.
