Amy Ha. I was just thinking this would be the pefect listopia for the times!

message 2: by Tom (new)

Tom There's also The Horseman on the Roof, I am Legend and for non-fiction The Black Death by Philip Zengler.

You should them to the list, Tom!
"

I would but I don't know how to do that. I'm new to this. There's also The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy But The Road doesn't include a plague. It's post-apocalyptic, but there's never any clear indication of what's happened except that there was a loud noise and now all the trees are burned out. No plague.

message 5: by Emily (new)

Emily Check out the "Fiction About Epidemics" list here, too.

message 6: by Jaye (new)

Jaye The Day of the Triffids
I don't remember any plague being mentioned in this book.
Meteorites affecting sight and causing plants to grow, yes.
Did I miss something?

message 7: by Meghan (new)

Meghan By seeing all the books on this list, it is clear that many people do not know what a pandemic is and/or cannot distinguish it from an epidemic. Voted for books on actually pandemics and really don't care for invented ones.

message 8: by Julian (new)

Julian White The Death of Grass/No Blade of Grass by John Christopher

One of many end-of-world small scale apocalyptic novels from British authors in the 50s/60s - John Wyndham is probably the best known. Here the disease affects grasses.

A Scent of New-Mown Hay by John Blackburn

Again a plant disease but one that affects humans more directly. Out of print, of course - but the BBC did a radio serial which was most effective (again, I doubt if it's available).

message 9: by Amanda (last edited Mar 17, 2020 06:51PM) (new)

Amanda Himes Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry is just about as good as World War Z.

Alondra Miller Amanda wrote: "Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry is just about as good as World War Z."

I will 2nd that!

message 12: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller Why is The Constant Gardener on here. Is that really about a Pandemic or a murder mystery???

True. Deleted.

message 14: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Removed spam titles by L.E. Parker. These have nothing whatsoever to do with a pandemic.

message 15: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Removed promotional author spam by Snehlata Agarwala. Neither book has anything to do with a pandemic.

message 16: by Paul (new)

Paul Reilly There's a new comic book based on the current pandemic. If anyone wants to check it out, it can be found here:

message 17: by The rockabilly werewolf from Mars (last edited Jul 24, 2020 10:04PM) (new)

The rockabilly werewolf from Mars The Day of the Triffids, Bird Box, and Swan Song are non-disease-related apocalyptic novels. Should they be here?

IIRC the book is not explicit about what caused the global loss of sight, but the suggestion is made that the "meteorites" were biological weapons deployed from orbit. I'd agree it is debatable whether Triffids belongs on this list.

There's a plague mentioned throughout the novel. Described as similar to typhus but possessing a much shorter incubation period. The meteorites don't effect the plants though, Triffids were a GMO replacement for oils like sunflower oil and fish oil.
