Mr. Bennet's Library 101+ Books
I would never have attempted any goals such as this when my children were small much less when I was still employed...so good job to make it to those levels. Well done.
When I was young ...many years ago I do remember a Friday night (no work the next day) when I stayed up until 4 am to finish Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss...one of my favorite authors.
I've commented before that I literally went decades without finding the time to read more than maybe a book or two a year while working full-time and parenting. Now that my husband and I are retired empty nesters, I'm obsessively making up for all those lost years. Great list, Shannon!

Yeah, I can see that. I think by then I was so sucked into Jane/Colonel Fitzwilliam that was I ignored Wickham, hehe.

It wasn't a large part of the story for sure. I did love Jane's love story.
Dear Kindle Experts,Can you please tell me where a .mobi file will show up when I send it to my kindle? I am thinking under books?
Thank you so much,
Talia
Edit: answered!
Talia, when you look at you kindle library, at the bottom, you will see Cloud | Device. .mobi files appear in the Device section because you did not buy it, Cloud are books you buy and therefore they can be seen on all kindle devices. Any more questions let me know.

Thanks. I never go to my kindle when I send something to it. I look at the amazon site under manage your content and device because it doesn't always go directly to the kindle. I have to select it from a list and deliver it to my kindle. I think it is due to the fact that I had kindle for ipad at one time. Thank you though because now I know where to go on the kindle itself.
Sheila wrote: "Has anyone else read A Lady's Reputation by Alex9903?"Nope. What's the variation? I found the link but not a description.
I don't have a description and was looking for such in asking if anyone else read it. I wanted to start reading it but wanted a little clue as to what to expect.
I've read two others by that author and gave both 5 stars. Even without a description, there's a good chance this will be excellent, too.
I contacted the author as she sent me a message previously and asked her for a book description and told her that you were also interested. Yes, she has some good books. We'll see if she gets back to me and I will let you know. Decided to read Pride & Prejudice... & Shakespeare. Had to start from the beginning as I was at 16% and couldn't remember the details as it has been a while since I first picked it up.
Oh, that's a good one, Sheila! IMO, it's the best by that author. I haven't gotten to her latest, The Wit & Wisdom of Wilde: A Pride & Prejudice Reimagining, but I've read her other historical P&P mashups.
Debbie wrote: "I've read two others by that author and gave both 5 stars. Even without a description, there's a good chance this will be excellent, too."Amy/Alex got back to me:
I didn't really have a story description on hand but I whipped this up as a sort of overview --
---------
A Lady's Reputation was inspired by this quote which is actually from Emma: A gentleman would never risk a lady's reputation... unless, of course, he is most ardently... in love.
Darcy is ardently in love but decides that instead of proposing at Hunsford he will wait until he has gone to his family and the Bennets to smooth the way for their engagement. Unfortunately, there is a little confusion among their relations which results in the word being spread about the engagement before he has even proposed. Elizabeth is more than a little upset with him but is persuaded to put aside her anger and spend the summer at Pemberley with him so that he can make good on a promise to reunite Bingley and Jane.
---------
In this story D&E have a HEA but Jane and Bingley do not. I say that just because some people don't like stories where all the canon couples don't wind up together... I'm usually one of them but this time I amused myself by giving Jane a new guy ;)
Hope that is helpful!
Thanks Sheila! You know I love Alex's writing and I must read this one soon!! I love this quite from lEmma" too! Makes me laugh!!
I like all Alex/Amy's stories, with the exception of one that was excellent but broke my angst meter! This is an enjoyable one, although Bingley is increasingly unlikeable as the story goes on. Colonel Fitzwilliam's brother is a hoot :)
Yes, Saye is excellent in his attempts to break the frosty atmosphere at the Gardiners...reading it now.
Ceri wrote: "I like all Alex/Amy's stories, with the exception of one that was excellent but broke my angst meter! This is an enjoyable one, although Bingley is increasingly unlikeable as the story goes on. Col..."Which one was that?
I don't recall the name of it, but in it, Elizabeth was a titled widow with a young son and she married Darcy in a semi-arranged way, as it would be useful to have a father for her son etc. Affection started to blossom between them, as well as passion. It was all lovely, and then the angst lorry struck! It was still good but just too angsty for a wimp like me to read, especially as I was reading it while it was being posted so there was no reading quickly through, I just had to read each chapter as it was being posted. Too torturous for me! I believe the author had a change of heart as she was writing it and changed her mind from taking the story down the route that would be on my 'NO' list to a less stressful route but I was broken by then, and only fit to read fluff for a while :)
Ceri wrote: "I like all Alex/Amy's stories, with the exception of one that was excellent but broke my angst meter! This is an enjoyable one, although Bingley is increasingly unlikeable as the story goes on. Col..."Which story broke your angst meter? "The Best Part of Love?" Did you finish it?
Ceri wrote: "I don't recall the name of it, but in it, Elizabeth was a titled widow with a young son and she married Darcy in a semi-arranged way, as it would be useful to have a father for her son etc. Affecti..."Yes, that's "The Best Part of Love." Sorry it wasn't to your liking. I think you'd enjoy the version I read. Maybe it will be published one day and you'll enjoy the edited version.
I wish she would publish her stories; they are certainly good enough! If I'd read it as a completed story perhaps I'd have finished it, but it was obviously much slower going because I read it as it was being posted. Also, like I said, I think there was a change of direction on something, so the final version would probably have been less angsty that it had been shaping up to be, if you know what I mean.
Ceri-I think you're right regarding the change of direction that particular story took. I read the less angsty version and loved it.
But I can totally understand why it would have been too torturous,if the author had made Elizabeth do certain things, then I know I would probably have lost all faith and given up on it.
Nicole wrote: "GR link for A Lady's Reputation by Alex9903: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3..."Does anyone have this as a .pdf? Where can I find it? I love it when Jane ends up with someone else.
Edit: found it and put it in a file if anyone else needs it. Looks so good.
Claudine wrote: Yes, that's "The Best Part of Love." Sorry it wasn't to your liking. I think you'd enjoy the version I read. Maybe it will be published one day and you'll enjoy the edited version. Claudine, which version was it that you sent me? I remember I thought it was way too long and the ending was too convoluted, but I loved Georgiana as a difficult teenager and the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth.
No, that was "Being Mrs. Darcy," which you didn't enjoy, but I did. It's one of the only books we've had a really different opinion about... You enjoyed "The Best Part of Love," where Elizabeth meets Darcy and she's a young titled widow and Darcy falls hard for her. Remember?
Yes, Elizabeth's first husband had been murdered. My main reservation was that the ending explanation about her husband and some conspiracy against the crown was too convoluted and, I thought, contradicted itself in places. I did think it was a 4-star book but that it needed some pruning and simplification of the murder plot.
Yes, I think so... But I loved it over the top and gave it 5 stars... If it's ever published, they will work out the kinks!!
Adding to my "Read" List:105. Pride And Education - 5 stars
106. Darcy & Lizzy: A Pride and Prejudice Modern Romance - 2 stars
107. All That This Entails - 4 stars
108. Lady Susan - 5 stars
109. Hit Me With Your Best Shot - 5 stars
My #109 perhaps doesn't qualify because it's a short story rather than a full-length book, although it is a GR listing.

Wow! Still awed at your progress. :-)
I've been counting short stories, though I tend to avoid them in general anyway, so there aren't many on my list. I'd say, at this point, you're allowed to count whatever you want from your place all snug in the library. ;-)
Guys did you not see where I wrote that Alex9903 is in a deal with Meryton Press to publish The Best Part of Love? She told me it should be coming out in November. I wrote it yesterday in the Fan Fiction Forum section in this group.
That is great news that she's looking to publish! Now all that needs to happen is for Meryton to convince JulieCoop, Cat0967 and Lucy to join her as published authors :)

I read two books today:With Pen In Hand: I think this will appeal to most JAFF readers. It started sweet and was endearing. Mrs Bennet complimented and came to Elizabeth's defense. There was some mayhem but more on the lines of most JAFF books. Nothing overdramatic. I liked it very much.
A Lady's Reputation: I read this one first and could hardly put it down. Many times, I needed to stop to inform my family of what was happening. Mr Bingley is presented in the most unique way I have seen him. I like it when author's flush out our faves in different directions, positive or negatives. It was very interesting. I hope this will make it into paperback form one day so I can add it to my shelves. Loved it.
That's great, Talia. They both sound appealing. I'm curious now what the second one did with Mr. Bingley.
Sophia wrote: "That's great, Talia. They both sound appealing. I'm curious now what the second one did with Mr. Bingley."It was a pretty quick read. If you want to know about Mr B, it won't take a long time. ;)
On another note, I bought the body-swap Mr Darcy book tonight. Can't wait to see what that is going to be like.
