Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 63 comments Curious whether this group was only about those buying physical books. I bought so many physical books that I filled three large bookshelves. Some shelves with the small airport-size paperbacks are three rows deep to fit all my books.

So I started on digital. And there are so many issues with growing a large digital book collection (starting with DRM) that I was curious if this would be an OK place to discuss that.

J.J. Garza | 27 comments Though it seems, I think it shouldn't necessarily be the case. As most collectors, I'm all out of space in my bookshelves. Two years ago I switched to e-books (with some interspersed physical books between).

And yes, I do agree... current DRM is the greatest challenge for e-books, as, it's hard to make the case that you truly possess them.

Yeah, no kidding. I bought The Cat in the Hat ebook from Barnes and Noble and apparently it doesn't work any any of the devices I have - not an Android with the Nook software, not Nook for PC, and not regular Nook.

DRM mean Digital Restrictions Management. It's when vendors restrict what you can do with stuff you have legally bought. For example, if you buy an ebook you cannot lend it to someone unless the publisher says you can. But you can do that with physical books. You can't resell it. You can't even take it from your Nook to your Kindle.

It is a social evil because it prevents social interaction. How many times have you bonded with someone by sharing a book? Can't do that with a DRM ebook.
