Allison | 1 comments Hi! I just found this group and am looking forward to reading everyone's comments. There is nothing better than a great book, and nothing more disappointing than getting ready to read a book, only to find it is full of gore, sexually graphic content, or vulgar language. We are all smart enough to figure out what is going on; we don't need an author to draw a picture for us!

I'm glad this group is available on Goodreads and very glad to see it is strong in numbers. Maybe one day publishers will notice!

Linn Chapel (linnchapel) | 4 comments Hi, I'm Linn Chapel. I found this group by using the search bar in the Goodreads Community menu. It's a relief to know there are other readers out there who are tired of running into so many explicit scenes!
I'm also an indie author, and I'll post some details about my new book soon, in case anyone in this group has an interest in the story.

Daryl Sung | 1 comments Hi Tracy, I found this group while browsing through Good reads and I am a new author who is keen to widen my network in the readers community. I felt called by God to pursue writing and recently published a ebook short read to kick off my writing journey. Hope to be able to get some feedback, reviews or even recommendations if possible too.

The title is called 'Back To Basics: Self-Care Amidst Crisis". It was birthed out of the recent Covid19 locked down experience and I hope it will bless someone out there who needs it too.

Fei K Hey! I found this group when viewing the profile of a user who was on it already. So excited to get some clean reads!

I am an author committed to writing clean books for grades 4-8 (but high-schoolers and adults enjoy too!) I believe you would like my book, A Ripple in Maggie Pond (2019). The reviews show that it is truly a clean book, and very well received!

My second book, Ribbon on the Willow (2020) is a great story about tons of exciting events that unfold for four friends.

Also, if you wish to reach out to me, my author's website is jodycleven.com There are multiple ways to contact me, and the website includes my blog!

Enjoy!

Laura-Lee (lauraleewashere) | 1 comments What a wonderful idea for a group. I was doing a search for a book similar to Game of Thrones (which I have never read) that was clean and a discussion from this group showed up on Google.

Since I'm a Christian there are somethings I won't read but I still love all types of genres. But what's great is how many times I'll find something even BETTER than what I was originally looking for from someones recommendations. You may have to look harder but the good AND clean ones are out there. So I'm happy to be here and can't wait to read about the books you love because there is nothing I love more than discovering a great new book and author.
(Unless it's discovering a new cookie. 🍪)

June Tistskovich | 19 comments Hi! I too am a Christian and am running out of good books to read. I really enjoy a good adventure/mystery. "Soap opera books" are not my genre. (I'm a retired social worker and got enough of that in real life.) Any suggestions? It would be nice to find some clean, humorous adventure/mystery series.

message 358: by Krista (new)

Krista | 7 comments June, I liked the Maisie Dobbs series. I’ve only read three of them, but they seem pretty tame. WWI mysteries. There’s about 14 in the series so if you like them, you’ll have lots of entertainment.

message 359: by June (new)

June Tistskovich | 19 comments Thanks! I'll give her a try.

Hi June, I'm not sure if you like historical mystery novels, one came to mind that I found somewhat humorous & there is a whole bunch of them Crocodile on the sandbank. It's about going to Egypt - artifacts etc etc Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody, #1) by Elizabeth Peters

message 361: by June (new)

June Tistskovich | 19 comments Hi! I have read every one of Elizabeth Peters books at least 3 times! I love Amelia Peabody series. I enjoy historical novels - particularly Victorian era. I also read her Vicki Bliss novels. Thanks for responding!

message 362: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Connell (michelleconnell) | 11 comments Have you tried the Inspector Witherspoon series by Emily Brightwell? There's lots of those and they are Victorian England era and pretty clean.
Another series that is good but in the late 60s I think, are the Mrs. Pollifax stories by Dorothy Gilman.

message 363: by June (new)

June Tistskovich | 19 comments Yup! Read every one of Mrs. Pollifax twice.

message 364: by Larraine (new)

Larraine | 10 comments The "Maisie Dobbs" series by Jacqueline Winspear is excellent. I recently discovered some great books by Susanna Kearsley: "The Winter Sea," "The Firebird," "The Rose Garden" and several others are excellent. "Beyond The Bright Sea" by Lauren Wolk is also great.

message 365: by June (new)

June Tistskovich | 19 comments I'll try them! Thanks!

Cheryl Colwell (mailcheryllynncolwellcom) | 8 comments Hi,
I belonged to a group called Clean Indie Reads, so when I saw this similar title, I was glad to join. Thank you!

message 368: by Pamela (new)

Pamela I found this group when I noticed that a couple of my "goodreads" friends are members. I love to read, but I do not enjoy books, or any other types of media, which are graphic. This looks like a good place to find suggestions for the types of books I enjoy! I simply want to sit down with a good book, without the distraction of obscenity or violence. I believe I have found the right place with this group!😊

Your books look quite inspiring! It made me smile to read your bio comment about Harley being King of the castle! That's the way it is with my cat, Clara. She basically owns me and I simply maintain my home for her comfort and convenience!🐱😆

Jody Cleven | 16 comments Pamela-I'm an author of clean books for middle grades (but HS and adults love my books too!) My first book, A Ripple in Maggie Pond(2019) is a great story about friendship that comes out of the most dramatic circumstance. It's packed with drama and really neat for that "avid reader" (the characters LOVE books)!

My second book (just released last week!), Ribbon on the Willowis a great story that has tons of exciting events for four friends.

It is my mission to write clean books, while at the same time not watering down the story. There are no swear words in A Ripple in Maggie Pond, and just one (mild) in Ribbon on the Willow. It kinda has to be there. Read it and you'll see!

My author's website is jodycleven.com. It tells more about me and the books, and even has my blog. I hope you give them a try! Both available on Amazon. Enjoy! -Jody Jody Cleven

Linda Martin (lindajm) | 27 comments DuckDuckGo: "how do you find good novels that don't have sex in them"

The answer is this group!!

message 377: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Cohen (nancyareycohen) | 2 comments Finding this group was a breath of fresh air for me. I just finished writing a romance called "Faraway Love." It is what I guess you would call a "clean read" because there is no explicit sex, no foul language, and the young couple decides to wait to consummate their relationship. One agent told me that it just didn't seem realistic. I disagree and am so glad to discover that there is an audience for books like this.

message 378: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn | 56 comments Nancy,
How refreshing to hear an author standing against the Woke Crowd representing a genteel audience by way of a broad vocabulary rather than caving with profanity and bile content. Thank you! Truly.

Hello, I found this group via a new friend, CindySlowReader. I wish I'd known about this group sooner - I don't like books with overdone profanity, gore, violence, or steamy sexual scenes. Happy to have found a resource for the prudish reader :D

I agree with Nancy!! And thank you for writing it. We need more books like this.

message 382: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Arey Cohen | 3 comments I found this group because I wanted to let people know that my new book, Faraway Love, is a clean romance. With no explicit sex, language, or violence, it is about the complications of long-distance relationships. Secrets. Temptation. Laughter. Tears. If you're interested, take a look.

message 383: by John (new)

John Dobbyn | 2 comments It is a pleasure to be part of a group that does not rely on quick fixes for a novel and simply relies on quality.
My Michael Knight/Lex Devlin series of six novels published by Oceanview Publishing fits your mold of high adventure legal thrillers without resorting to explicit sex or violence. The first in the series is "Neon Dragon".
I wish this group the greatest success.

Josephine Strand | 6 comments Hi, I'm Josephine Strand. I'm so happy to have found this group while searching discussion groups in my genre. My recently published sweet romance Misty Dreams is sex-free, profanity-free but with no shortage of tension, suspense, mystery and drama. I would love to connect with other writers in my genre. Send me a friend request and I'll follow.

message 385: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Arey Cohen | 3 comments Josephine, I found this group in the same way. I recently published a clean romance (Faraway Love) and wanted to share it with folks who would appreciate its story without unnecessary language and explicit sex. Your book looks interesting. I will be be giving it a look.

message 386: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Strand | 6 comments Hi Nancy, glad to meet you and thank you for looking up my book. I looked for yours on your website and it sounds right up my ally. I will definitely be looking at it too. It would be great to connect and discuss recommendations and bookish stuff.

Brenda Williams (goodreadscombrenda_williams) | 3 comments Hello, Brenda D. Williams here. Glad to join a group like this. I was so dissatisfied with the profanity and overly done sex scenes, I started writing clean and wholesome. Will be nice to see other authors and their books.

message 388: by Beth (new)

Beth Scott | 11 comments Hi All - I found the group the same way as Josephine and Nancy. I recently self-published my first clean romance novel (Redirection) and wanted to find others who appreciate the genre. It is exciting to find an entire group focused on clean and wholesome content!

Esosa Daniel-Oniko | 6 comments I searched for clean read suggestions, and this came up. I am so tired of my sensibilities being assaulted by certain kinds of material!

message 390: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laurelanne) | 7 comments The Ardmore Public Library website provided a few links, including this one.

Tired of sifting. My bookshelf has more unshared DNF than actual reads. Christian fiction (Kingsbury, Theone) is a safe go-to, but I like variety.

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Thanks for the add.

message 391: by Janet (new)

Janet | 3 comments Welcome! I hope you find some good books here. It's always such a challenge!

message 392: by Esosa (new)

Esosa Daniel-Oniko | 6 comments It’s nice to see other authors here too. I didn’t know that we could mention our books. I found myself here because I am an avid reader also and have struggled with finding books that work.
I write clean fiction and my latest book, ( I Have A Secret I Must Tell) is on here. I have a giveaway running until tomorrow if anyone would like to cop a free copy! 💕

message 393: by Joan (new)

Joan (jomarcho1) | 37 comments I was soooo tired of the F-word on every other page and reading about people popping into bed with anyone and everyone. I just put clean books in the serach engine and got here. I am so glad. Thank you for all your comments and recommendations.

message 394: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Strand | 6 comments Welcome Joan, Esosa, Janet, Laurel and all the other newcomers. It's nice to meet you all. I, too, am tired of explicit language and sex. I'm so desperate I'm reading Redeeming Love for the second time, lol. I've decided that from now on when I rate a book on GR I will add a content warning. I don't know if this is the place for recommendations but if any of you would like to follow me please do and I will do the same.

Elmari Potgieter | 2 comments Hi all. I am new to this group. I was looking for an app to remove profanity and swear words from ebooks. I am using Readera app and Kindle app. I wrote to Readera asking to add a darker color to their highlight so that I could darken Jesus Christ's name so that I do not see the words. They said they will look into the matter. In Kindle I did once get it tight but cannot remember how I did it. In 2015 there was a family that created an app Clean Reader but apparently it does not excist any more. Please if any one can suggest an app I will be so so grateful. I found this group through GOOGLE. I really really am desperate to find an app.
