Anyway, it's now been combined, so feel free :)

Was manually added with almost zero info. I merged it (after correcting the spelling of the author's name) but apparently it needs a super to delete it because of how many reviews it has.

Anyway, please use your SLib discretion to decide the matter, to whomever reads this first ;)

Lindig | 167 comments http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

This book is already listed separately. This listing has 0 reviews etc and is shown as "unbound" (whatever that means). One person has marked it to-read. Should this be deleted, or merged, or what?

message 122: by Lisa (last edited Aug 20, 2009 08:48PM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Lindig,

I combined the two editions. Edit: and I added the series info to this edition.

According to Google Books and Amazon, this edition is a book.

I'm a bit confused with http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...
Looks the same as this book, but with a wrong book cover. I think the first one should be deleted and the last one – combined with these editions of The Great Gatsby.

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 2 comments Please delete this book: "Cloud Over Columbine: How the Press Got It Wrong and the Police Let It Happen." There are two editions listed--neither exist.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25...

This book was planned for 2002, but never published.
Random House bought the book (from me), got an ISBN, notified Amazon, but then canceled it (and shut down the AtRandom imprint) before publication. We never even finished editing it. The book does not exist.

(Just so there is no confusion, Twelve/Hachette DID publish my book with just the title "Columbine" this April, and all those editions should remain. Whatever you do, don't delete them. I separated them from the two imaginary "Cloud Over Columbine" books.)

Thanks.

message 136: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Dave,

Thanks!

The problem is it's listed at Amazon with its ISBNs:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url...

so, if we delete it, it will simply automatically return to the database.

Rivka, Everybody, How do we handle these situations?

Sorry if it's in the manual but I have no time to look now and I don't recall anything.

Can Dave ask Amazon to remove it, and then we can remove it here?

Thanks.

That would be best if possible. If not, I'll pass it along to Jessica; there is an established procedure.

Thanks. Hachette has asked Amazon for months to remove it, to no avail, so that's not going to work. Amazon can be trying that way. (Maybe I have to go back to the people at Random to get it off--though the editor from Random is now my editor at Twelve/Hachette.)

This must happen all the time with canceled books. I wonder how many phantom books are out there.

---

This isn't the right thread, but since I'm here, can i ask a related question?

My actual book, COLUMBINE was published simultaneously in hardcover in the US by Twelve/Hachette, and UK/Commenwealth in paperback by Old Street.

On Amazon.com, only the harcover comes up, since that's all that's in the U.S. (At Amazon.co.uk, you'll find both.)

Here on goodreads, both show up, and I think readers will assume it's out in paperback. It's not in the U.S., and won't be until at least next year. Is there a clear way to indicate on the paperback that it's only in the UK? How about in the "published" field: "April 20th 2009 by Old Street Publishing--ONLY IN UK"?

Here is the link to the paperback in question:

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Dave wrote: "This book was planned for 2002, but never published."

Usually in these cases a note in the book description suffices -- in fact, it can be a good way to communicate to readers that the book of which they have heard rumors is not in fact available.

"Is there a clear way to indicate on the paperback that it's only in the UK?"

Currently the publisher field shows only the name and not the country of the publisher* -- so, no, there's no "top" field that will show this information. You could add "UK version" to the book description, or you could encourage your US publisher to get an ISBN for their paperback publication (this is often done well in advance of actual publication) so that an entry for the US paperback will show up here with a future publication date. (You could manually make an entry for the US paperback, but you'd have to remember to merge it with the official version when an ISBN comes available.)

* This has been mentioned before, I think; you could bring publisher countries up in the Feedback group as a possibile feature.

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For | 949 comments If the book was never published, is that a cause for labeling it as Not a Book? I can't recall if we've used that strategy in the past or not.

message 142: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Michael, I think we have done that, but I don't know if I'm completely comfortable with that solution if there's a better one.

We have, generally by specific author request.
