Ok, I finished The Other Side of Summer & will give it 4 stars

Here's a snippet of my review:
"Her parents are struggling with their own sadness though her mother seemed to have drowned and unable to help the rest of the family. Her father is doing his best and by this, he is transplanting them to a new place on the far side of the world. Things went quite awry and Summer felt her old self buried deeper inside of her. There was someone else who needed her help though... but he was a mystery she needed to solve with help from an unlikely corner."

And... Animal Farm -book request

Paola (yliharma) | 470 comments I finished Lo scudo di Talos!
It's really a great historical fiction, beautifully written and full of vivid descriptions of places.
Its setting in the great city of Sparta, during the great wars studied for years at school, is really interesting.
The characters are also very well presented and the story is entertaining: even if I had not had the 7 days deadline to read it, I would still have read it in few days because I couldn't stop :D
I don't know why I had always discarded this Italian author as not worthy of being read...it is and I will surely read something more.
5 stars

Good job Paola. Now you need to set up a thread for people who land on the square to use to ask for book recommendations. Then just keep your eye on the thread in case anyone posts there. If they do, you recommend books for them.

Once you set up the thread, post a link here so that Tien and I can update the necessary links.

Got you Coralee.

Coralie | 1658 comments I have finished A Song of Stone. It got off to a poor start with me as it is first person present tense narration which I dislike and also lapses in to second person on occasion. However, once I accustomed myself to the narration I could appreciate the lyrical prose. As I progressed through the book, the obnoxious nature of the narrator became more and more obvious. I don't often feel that the protagonist in an apocalyptic novel deserves all the bad things that happen to them but I made an exception in this case.
