Dominique Finished with Wonder
Review
August in an ordinary 10 year old, well on the inside he is but the outside it's totally different. His face is not like an 10 year old, he has abnormalities. People stare and point, he's used to it but still feel sad when it happens.

He's been home schooled but his mom decides that it's time for him to experience the outside world and be a normal kid in his own way.

Th story is told several people's point of view August, his sister's Via, Jack, his new best friend, Via's boyfriend and his parents. You feel their pain, their concerns and some, their shame.

Touching, sweet, this book will inspire you to be kind and respectful of others. 5 stars.

Thanks Julie. Let me know when you set up the Request thread for you property so that Tien and I can update all the links.

Also, in future can you post your review in the next spot available instead of editing your previous post. As this thread gets longer and longer, it becomes very difficult to go back through all of the posts to find your original one. Also, when you post the review, please note which property it is for. Thanks!

It looks like all the info was in the edited post but I understand about digging it out in the future. Won't happen again. Will set up thread now and confirm when done.

Kim DeCina (ladyindigo) | 17 comments I finished Cinder on 12/16 for the purchase of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Review: I absolutely loved this book. It had a combination of unique worldbuilding, interesting and diverse characters, and a great plot (I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings, but this does it even better than most.) I was having trouble sleeping the night before I completed it so I wound up tearing through the last 8 chapters until the wee hours of the morning, because the finale was so good at keeping me riveted that I had no idea what was coming next. My one complaint, keeping it at 4 stars instead of 5, is that the book's major twist seemed very clear to me almost right away - when a lot of suspense about that final revelation becomes not important, it does lessen the impact for me a lot, since I felt like it was so clear the clever heroine should have been able to figure it out herself. Even so, I'm really looking forward to reading the others in the series as soon as I can. 4 stars.

I've finished The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again today 12/17/15. I will create my thread and post my review once i have some coffee in me. Be back later.

Review:
I have had this book on my TBR list as well as planned for other past challenges for years! And, what a mistake that was.

I think I dreaded reading the book because I had seen The Lord of the Rings on TV a long time ago and I generally do not enjoy re-reading books.

Well, overall, it has been long enough that much of the story was new to me. The only place the TV images came to mind was when picturing Gollum, Gandalf and the Lord of the Elves., which actually made the reading fun. I really enjoyed this book.

My thread for book requests is here - Don Quixote's Adventures.

Bea, congrats on your property! And wasn't it just a fun book!

And um, sorry to burst your bubble but could you rename your thread to your property, Don Quixote, and not the book you read for it? It's confusing as we don't actually have The Hobbit as a property :)

I'll update the board once you've renamed it (as it will change the http address)

Lahni | 660 comments I finished reading Girl in Translation to purchase tbe property The Invisible Man.

I really appreciate the glimpse into the life of immigrant families and how hard it is to build a new life with so many financial, cultural, educational and language barriers. It is well written and I often found myself forgetting it's fiction and not an actual memoir.

I read it right after reading another book that has some unchangeable hard situations and being frustrated by the characters choices and ultimately not satusfied by the book. But this was a very different reading experience. I didn't agree with all the characters' choices but they all felt real to me and I could understand why they made those choices.

Oh and I set up a thread for the property!

Charity | 577 comments Finished Romeo and Juliet 1/7/2016 for Pride & Prejudice Property. It was a tragedy as everyone knows, but made me want to watch the Lenardo Dicaprio version again. It was modern setting with the actual play's words. The music was extremely ecclectic and great. I loved seeing the famous quotes after not reading it since grade school.

You are correct, according to her review post #83 her request thread should be for Pride and Prejudice, not Catcher in the Rye. I should have caught that, dang.....No wonder you couldn't find the thread to link....

Charity | 577 comments Yeah I finished my second one for Catcher in the Rye (this is really for this slot this time!). Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything was about looking at the data we get in a different manner. Are we sure what the experts are telling us are true? Could there be other reasons for the same outcome...is the relationship causal or correlational. It was a good book and written in such a way that it was entertaining as well. Warning though...if you have very strong opinions you may be offended with the conclusions the authors come to on certain topics, but maybe you'll learn something as well.
