All,First thank you Sarah for your leadership, and all others who have helped make this year's list work for as many of us as possible.
Based on what I have seen and the discussion so far, I am going to commit as follows:
1 title per month that I have not read before now.
No repeats until i finish the group's bookshelf in entirety
Usual updates and reviews on all titles I read.
If I have already read a book, I will choose the next one on the list I have not already read, particularly if I have reviewed it as well.
To that end, my list will be (and I believe my votes are counted on all)...
The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks
The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi
Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay
Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey
His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler
Spin by Robert Charles Wilson
Little, Big by John Crowley
The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
This will be my reading list starting each month on the 1st.
RIchard
I'd like to join the groups for The Algebraist, The Windup Girl, Wool Omnibus, Oryx and Crake, Her Majesty's Dragon, and The Golem and the Jenni.
Richard wrote: "This will be my reading list starting each month on the 1st."Richard, we have readjusted your votes again.
My apologies if I am misunderstanding your message, but our primary intention in creating this schedule and this discussion thread is to facilitate group reads and discussions for the more commonly chosen books. However, you are certainly welcome to read the books in whatever order you choose.
Okay, here is my reality check post. I'm going to bow out of a few of them because I was not expecting 10 of my choices to make it to the top list, and I actually do need to cut back a little this year. Sorry! My new votes are:
Alphabet of Thorn
Charmed Life (Chrestomanci, #1)
Deathless (Leningrad Diptych, #1)
Embassytown
Eon: Dragoneye Reborn (Eon, #1)
Gardens of the Moon (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1)
His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1)
The Native Star (Veneficas Americana, #1)
Pandora's Star (Commonwealth Saga, #1)
The Quantum Thief (Jean le Flambeur, #1)
Regarding Ducks and Universes
The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes (The Sandman, #1)
The Silent Tower (Windrose Chronicles, #1)
The Speed of Dark
Those Who Hunt the Night (James Asher, #1)
To Say Nothing of the Dog (Oxford Time Travel, #2)
War for the Oaks
Wild Seed (Patternmaster, #1)
A Wizard of Earthsea (Earthsea Cycle, #1)
Zoo City
If it helps your tally, Sarah, here are the ones I crossed off:
The Algebraist
Boneshaker (The Clockwork Century, #1)
Cat's Cradle
Childhood's End
Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom
A Fire Upon the Deep (Zones of Thought, #1)
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1)
The Last Unicorn (The Last Unicorn, #1)
The Long Earth (The Long Earth, #1)
White Cat (Curse Workers, #1)
I'm still trying to figure this thread out, how it works. I'm too late to submit, yes? I joined some time ago, but I've been busy and exhausted... (only read 137 books in 2015 as opposed to 205 in 2014). There are a number of the books listed that I've already read. I feel a bit twitchy about limiting it to 5* books, as I find those tend to be the love/hate kind, but that's not up to me.
Tria, it's not too late. Post the list of books you would like to read from the club bookshelf, and your votes will be counted. See the first page of this discussion for details.
Angela wrote: "how do i get to join the challenge"I usually do the challenge from the home page when I'm on a computer. I'm not sure if it will work but you can try this link and it may work.
The thread for discussing the challenge is here
This thread that we're on at the moment is only for reading past books from the bookshelf. Please feel free to look the bookshelf over and submit a list. We'll choose the most popular ones and put them in a schedule.

We've chosen Jan and Feb and I believe that Edwin and I will have a schedule up for the rest of the year somewhere between Feb 1st and 15th.
Even after that point, if there's a book on the bookshelf you want to read, you can let people know here. If you find a person or people who want to read it you can pick a date and I'll find the threads for you and post them in the first post in this thread.
Other than that, I recommend reading the second post in this thread, as Chris mentioned, as it explains what we're doing here and what our goals are. Please feel free to submit a list, and welcome :)

To clarify, there are a couple of different things going on.
The first is “The SciFi and Fantasy Book Club Challenge” going on here. This is a personal challenge. You choose a personal goal for the year of books that are either on the bookshelf from the past or new from the ongoing monthly picks.
The second is this thread, the “2016 Group Bookshelf Reading Calendar/Planning.” This is a group event. It is a group of us who are submitting wishlists of past books from the club bookshelf for the purpose of creating a set of group discussions of these previously read books. Sarah and I are tallying these wishlists and creating a calendar to facilitate these group reads.
I hope this makes sense.
Here is my planned list for this year. I tried to make it alphabetical. Thanks Sarah and Edwin for organizing! iq84

We have Ancillary Justice and The Algebraist starting in the 15th. The first post has the current schedule and will have the threads available on the 15th. We haven't finished the full schedule for the year since we're still taking votes. Jan and Feb are up there, though. This particular thread is different from the main group. They are reading Seveneves and The Fifth Season, we're just reading past winners.
Late to the game but here are my choices:Annihilation
Embassytown
Mort
Oryx and Crake
Pump Six and Other Stories
Redshirts
Red Rising
The Lies of Locke Lamora

Sandi wrote: "Doesn't Flowers for Algernon (Maarit, Chris, Sabrina, Melanie, Silvana) and Hyperion (Maarit, Ruth, Chris, Silvana, Stephanie) also have 5 votes?"Maarit updated her list and removed herself from those two.
I love the idea of joining in a sort of side reading group for the challenge and if its not too much to add in a few last minute votes the books I'm thinking of reading this year are:The Algebraist
The Blade Itself
Dawn
Furies of Calderon
The Girl With All the Gifts
The Goblin Emperor
Mistborn
The Mote in God's Eye
Neuromancer
Nine Princes in Amber
Red Rising
Spin
Stranger in a Strange Land
Warbreaker
The Wise Man's Fear
I hear such wonderful things about it. It only has five votes so far, though, and I think we're looking at 6+ right now.
LadyCello wrote: "So actually, could you add my vote for Hyperion and Cat's Cradle?"Most definitely :)
I just put the threads for Ancillary Justice and The Algebraist in the first post. Discussions are set to start on the 15th. I'll be reading The Algebraist the last week of the month and my in person book group happens to be doing Ancillary Justice in Feb, so I'll be participating in that one, too. Let's have some fun!I'm listing the threads here as well.
The Algebraist
"The Algebraist" First Impressions *No Spoilers*
"The Algebraist" Final evaluations (***spoilers, duh***)
Ancillary Justice
"Ancillary Justice" First Impressions *No Spoilers*
"Ancillary Justice" Final Thoughts *Spoilers*
Treatment of Emotions in Ancillary Justice - *Spoilers*
Thanks, Sarah! It doesn't look like the First Impressions link for Ancillary Justice is working. Is that right or is it just my phone (which I use rarely)?

Things have been quiet for a bit and we have a nice, even 24 votes so Edwin and I have decided to go ahead and start on the schedule. If there are reads that people want to do outside of the schedule we come up with, then you guys can arrange a date that you want to do the read and I'll be happy to pull up the threads for you. I have some that I'm planning on reading later this year so I'll be offering up some reads in case people want to join me.We do need a bit of time to arrange the schedule but we'll get it to you guys as soon as possible.
Hank wrote: "I am looking forward to it! I love the Algebraist so far. Vampires and Dragons and Jinnis oh my!"Cool. I just started The Algebraist today. I am still getting in to the flow of it, but it looks like it is gonna be a bit of an undertaking.
