eg The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals is on the ecology list, and has 59 people shelved it as ecology on the "top shelves" page, but it's not on the main page genre list... would that be OK?

That's exactly it. :)

Right. They just need to be shelved by at least 3 people that way and show up on the popular books.
Does that make sense alright?

Correct. The last book listed with 3 shelved right now is My Family and Other Animals.

Ok...thanks. I just wanted to make sure I understood what we were looking for. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations of books that are on these lists that you have read and enjoyed? I browsed through them and to be honest have only seen/heard of a couple of them.

I can't recommend the first on the list enough. Last Chance to See is written by Douglas Adams, the author of Hitchhiker's Galaxy series. His observations about the animals he sees isn't nearly as funny as the humans he interacts with. Totally cynical, dry British wit.
You can never go wrong with Gerald Durrell either. I haven't actually read the one on this list, but I'm thinking of maybe making it my read for this challenge. My GR friends that have read this one all give it 4 or 5 stars.
I also can't help but plug The Selfish Gene. In my opinion it's as important a text as The Origins of Species. Plus, you get to learn where the term meme came from that everyone bandies around all the time (and you see SO many of them in GR reviews too).
I do wish the nonfiction readers on GR were as good and diligent about shelving their books as other genres. Writing this challenge has made me realize I need to organize my reads a bit better to try to help with that. :)

That's exactly it. :)"
thank you!

Thanks.....I was just at a loss LOL as I was looking through the lists and the majority of the books/authors I was just unfamiliar with. I think I am going to see if I can get the Gerald Durrell book from the library :)
I read more fiction than non-fiction but from time to time don't mind a non-fiction book. I probably should shelve my non-fiction reads better also,as well as explore more into the different genres of non-fiction :)

Gorillas in the Mist 3x listed zoology

I don't think I can lock in categories. Those need to be done in the special thread. :) I loved that book though, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

This has been on my TBR list for a while. Presumably as its on the list with 3 shelvings it's okay - even though it doesn't have zoology as a main page genre?

Locked in.

Correct. Does not have to be on main page. That's why I used the list because it's easier to see the books in order of how many times they've been shelved.

Cool. Thank you.

Can you verify the Biology genre for The God Delusion?

Can you verify the Biology genre for The God Delusion?"
Genre verified.
It makes me SO happy to read this Maddie! I'm a preferred non fiction reader, so I love these challenges because they force me to explore other types of books. Glad to see I get to return the favor to a fiction reader. :)
I look forward to seeing what books you settle on with this challenge.

Thanks!

Thanks!"
Yup. :) I hope you enjoy it!

I don't see Biology on the first page of Stiff. Was it there when you posted it? I didn't get the ping that you posted here, so I'm sorry that I'm just seeing this.
The Man Who Mistook His Wife will definitely work for Neurology!

I see if now too. I was only getting 5 options on the main page this morning. Stiff is approved for >Biology! :)

and [book:Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Hu..."
Those both work and are approved. :)

I see it's been shelved neurology 6 times, so it works. :)

If not, could I please lock in The Rhino with Glue-On Shoes: And Other Surprising True Stories of Zoo Vets and their Patients as being shelved 3x as zoology?

Sorry I missed this for so long. This one still works because it was confirmed to have been shelved with 3 earlier. :)

Confirmed! I enjoy this author a lot. I hope you do to. :)

Yes I love The Flight of the Iguana: A Sidelong View of Science and Nature, one of my all time favourites. I'm hoping this one is half as good.

Zoobiquity: The Astonishing Connection Between Human and Animal Health?
It is on the very bottom.

That works :)

For ecology : Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation by Michael Pollan
It's on page 6 of the link that you posted.

I've always been fascinated by the world around me. There is little I don't find interesting when it comes to history and science. For me, I read sometimes for escape and sometimes for a better understanding of myself and place in the world. My problem in school though was that I could never settle on just one subject.
