I am really sorry Denise. I thought I was supposed to post it in the same spot you post your own dusty shelf so it would be easiest to find.

The Second Footman looks good. I may have to read that one myself at some point.

I picked for Denise. It is on my only post.
Did I do it wrong?"

In a way, yes, you did do it incorrectly.

When you make a pick for your partner, you need to make a separate post in the thread, stating what your picks for your partner are. It does two things, let's your partner know specifically what you are picking for them, rather than them having to hunt up your specific bookshelf post and see your picks for them. It also lets Ezi and I know that you've seen your pairing and have picked for your partner. You still need to add the picks to your original post as a third level of confirmation, but by doing it the way you did and not making the separate post, you get mistakenly put on the non-participation list.

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Nichole, I'll do your picks for you, since DebbieG apparently didn't see the message I left for her in the thread.

My picks for you are: At Last (Lucky Harbor, #5) by Jill Shalvis and A Lady by Midnight (Spindle Cove, #3) by Tessa Dare . I'm also going to throw in a third pick for you, since you had to wait so long: Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2) by Robin LaFevers . Dark Triumph is on my TBR too, so if you choose to read it and want a buddy, let me know!

I just read that book. Took me almost a week because there were a lot of parts that dragged. There were some parts that were very good but getting through the rough parts slowed me down tremendously.

VampAmber | 622 comments So, I just finished Christmas Healing (Healing The Regime, #1) by Morris Fenris , the first of my two picks. It was... interesting. A very solid 3.5 stars (but I rounded up to 4 for the review, because I'm nice like that). Not exactly the best of writing, and they borrowed a teeny bit too much from Twilight (and according to the reviews, I'm not the only one that noticed), but a really nice fluffy holiday feel good novella. It was good enough that I might read the next one, if it's cheap enough. ^_^

Thanks for the picks *Rachael*!

The Pagan Stone — ★★★★★ 12/4
This has been an amazing series! I knew this would be the darkest of the books based on the main characters in this installment. Gage didn’t have an ideal childhood...his counterpart, Cybil, had a privileged upbringing until it all came crashing down. These two fought tooth and nail to not connect, but of course they did! I appreciated how this story came to a close. It was nail biting to the end to see how it would play out and I was not disappointed.

Reaper’s Fall — ★★★★ 12/10
Oh how I love my Reapers! I really enjoyed getting to know Painter better. He’s been an important back character in most of the previous books, so having his story highlighted was a treat! I have loved getting to know Painter, even when he was being a jerk. He really made some impressive leaps in the “I need to grow up” areas of his life. I’m not a big Melanie fan, however. I get that Painter made some bad choices, but in the end I think she needed the therapy!

Kay (Brigidsmomma) Compton (brigidsmomma) | 565 comments I finished the first of my two picks this week (been w/o internet since Sunday), Touching the Clouds (Alaskan Skies, #1) by Bonnie Leon . This was really good, better than I expected really as this was an historical mid-20th century piece, something that normally isn't my cup of tea. Got it mainly because it was about Alaska, figuring that my Hubby would love it as he used to live in Alaska, and is enamored of all things Alaska. Really pretty good.

Picked for me by Joanna

Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf
My Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Date Finished: 12/12
Final Thoughts:
This started out as a very sweet story. I was actually enjoying it until Addie's son came into the picture. What a freaking asshole. It all went downhill after that. But what really dropped my rating to a final 2 stars was the ending. Not sure what I was expecting (though I was preparing myself for something heart wrenching!) but I definitely wasn't prepared for no ending at all. Like, the book just stopped. It was very abrupt with no closure whatsoever.

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins
My Rating: ★★★★☆
Date Finished: 12/15
Final Thoughts:
I absolutely loved the first 2 books. I was so engrossed in the stories that I could barely pay attention to RL. So I was excited to read this one and finish the trilogy. I was extremely disappointed with the first half of this book. I found it draggy and not very compelling. I was a little bored with it. It picked up the second half but just barely managed to end in 4 star territory. I would say it's more of a 3.5 but I rounded up because the trilogy as a whole was still great.

message 177: by Emma Ruth (new)

Emma Ruth (inevitablyannoying) I finished my first pick, The Dreamsnatcher by Abi Elphinstone , highly enjoyable, felt like childhood to me. I'd forgotten halfway through that it wasn't standalone, so now I'm excited for the next books . 3.5 stars.

I have so many library books to read before the New Year that I probably won't get to my second pick, fingers crossed I find the time next month.

Thanks again for the picks Nikki! :)

Thank you so much for the two great picks you made for me this month. They were both excellent reads!

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein got ★★★★★ because it made me cry real tears. I'm a true animal lover!

The First Wife by Erica Spindler got ★★★★ but was very close to a 5 for me.

I read that one a few years ago, and was bawling so bad by the last page that my mom asked me if I was okay, because I sounded like my best friend had just died. By and far one of the best books I have ever read.

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Ezi ~ my December reading was horrible. I am still working on finishing Mind Magic (World of the Lupi, #12) by Eileen Wilks - it's been really good but you have to pay attention while reading this series- not mindless reading, lol - which I did a lot of for December and I have every intention of getting to Unleashing the Storm (ACRO, #2) by Sydney Croft this month.

VampAmber | 622 comments Just finished my second pick, The Night Before Christmas. It's only 3 days late, so can I get partial credit at least? Anyway, it had six stories in it, with a mix of bad, meh, good, and awesome, so here's a star breakdown (which I copy-pasted from my review):

White Knight Christmas by Lori Foster: 2/5 stars
Snowed Under by Erin McCarthy: 4/5 stars
Ms. Humbug by Jill Shalvis: 5/5 stars
I'll Be Home For Christmas by Kathy Love: 3/5 stars
Seducing Scrooge by Katherine Garbera: 2/5 stars
The Good Girl's Guide To A Very Bad Christmas by Kylie Adams: 5/5 stars
