A I have now read all of R Lee Smiths books and need something else just as captivating. Her world building is better than every other major book publisher book of this and similar genres.

Please - is there any other author who writes this well with hints of romance, erotica and horror?

Holly Gah that's a tough one. It's not exactly the same but Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy) maybe?? The MC is raised as a very high end courtesan in a alternate fantasy world. It's pretty dark and broody like R Lee's books are.

Holly Oh and it's a bit more urban fantasy but I think Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series might fit the bill.

A thanks! I tried Kushiel's Dart and couldn't get into it, will look into the other one

Moarbooxpls The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1) by Mary Doria Russell
The Sparrow Mary Doria Russell is not in the romance genre and it is sci-fi and it is very intense and sometimes disturbing, but it kind of has a similar feel as some of R Lee Smith's books.

Coyote (Coyote Trilogy, #1) by Allen Steele
Another one would be the Coyote by Allan Steele. It's a little bit dry in places and the author's politics are pretty thinly veiled (moderate by US standards, I think) and it's sci-fi, but it has pretty awesome worldbuilding, good plots, and decent character development.

Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1) by Delilah S. Dawson
If you want to go with the undead thing, there is the Blud series by Delilah S. Dawson. It is dystopian steampunk romance. I've only read the first book in the series because I'm not a huge fan of dystopian stuff and I didn't become super-invested in the characters, but if you like The Land of the Beautiful Dead, I'd say it's definitely worth checking out.

The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #1) by Kresley Cole
For some straight up Paranormal Romance with some "strange," pretty great worldbuilding and quirky humor, the Immortals After Dark is hard to beat.

My Life as a White Trash Zombie (White Trash Zombie, #1) by Diana Rowland
I haven't read all of the books in this series yet, but the first two were pretty good.

Ceeri Jay Penelope Fletcher on the world building. Not all that big on horror though

Loved Venomous. Just re-read it this weekend. Can't wait for Thunderclaw to drop.

Venomous was a great read! Absolutely fabulous and quirky humour, right?
Fletcher may still be writing Thunderclaw as there is silence on release date. Was set as Dec 2015 but who knows. Maybe Beowyn has a bit more to say and is taking his time letting Fletcher get it all down on paper.

Reread the Last Hour of Gann by RE Smith - another lizard alien read. Bit darker and long. But the Smith writes until it's all writ out. V looooong book

Kathleen Meeker Grace Lost by M. Lauryl Lewis. Gritty, horrifying and brutal zombie apocalypse series. Lots of death, lots of angst, and strong romantic undertones throughout. Don't get too emotionally invested with all the characters. You never know who will die next.
Book was gripping but gave me some nasty nightmares.
