A question for anyone who can answer - Is there an easy way to search by series or browse lists of series, maybe by genre?

I'd love to use series name for some of these challenge entries (certain letters are getting a LOT of exercise so far this year), but can't figure out how to find the series name without essentially already knowing it exists (starting from a book or author page). The meta data obviously exists, but I can't figure out how to search on it.

~ How to Quickly Add Series ~
I'm putting this under a “view spoiler” so that it is “collapsible” - taking up less space to scroll through.(view spoiler)[
Have you fallen in love with a series and want to add the books to a challenge or comment/post? Here is a helpful hint in putting in your series quickly:


--If you know the name of the series, when you do a look-up under add book/author, just type it in and all those books will appear in the dropdown.

--Be sure you have the button cover option selected at the bottom start clicking/adding.

Note: If it doesn't show the number, just roll your cursor over the book cover while in the look-up and it should appear.

If you don't know the name of the series, you can always go to one of the books and note the name in light grey hyperlink.

For example:

I typed in the following series titles (noted in italics) and brought them in.

SPECIAL NOTE: Have a series name that is too common, such as Highlander? Just add the author's name.

For example: The Highlander series by Maya Banks; type in the following: "Highlander by Maya Banks" in the look-up and you will get all the books in the series. :)

Also https://www.goodreads.com/series is a listing of all series on GRs, but it isn't in alphabetical order. Is this the meta data you're talking about?

Thanks, Lisa Kay - that list will give me something to browse through, at least.

By metadata, I mean the series name & # that is associated with each book, and associated with authors. So the information is there somewhere. You're right - if I know the name of the series I can put that in the search field.

But I'm looking for series that I'm not already familiar with, that I don't already know, so I don't have anything to search on.

Then again, we can't easily browse the list of authors or book titles alphabetically, either. The closest I could come was sorting my voluminous to-read list by author, and paging through it.

Maybe if wildcards were supported (search O* and filter by title for all titles starting with the letter O), but they doen't seem to be.

Now I'm rambling, I apologize - I just wish that powerful online searches could sometimes do things that old-fashioned card catalogs did so easily. :-)

You need to add an E to Doei ~ the Goodbye section ;)

You can also look through your to-read books with the titles, the same way you do your authors, just click on the tabs at the top. It won't do series though. As far as I know there is no way to search the metadata yet.

I'm sure no one will mind if I link the bookshelf for SOS (the other group I'm a Mod on) which is all about series. There are over 3,500 books listed all in the pnr or uf genre.
