We are now building up to the denouement, starting with the arrival of Poole (who like all butlers I imagine as normally very unflappable) who is clearly beside himself with worry and anxiety-to come himself to one of his master's friends and beg for help must have only been done in the most extreme circumstances. We get the story of the frantic search for more chemicals of the right sort, then the shouting through the door, the realization that Hyde is present and finally, when Hyde's dying form is found, we are left with a locked door mystery-how could Jekyll have disappeared?

But would either Jeeves or Bunter have been flapped?

That depends on what sort of alter ego Wooster or Whimsy would end up with!
