November 2015 Group Read-The Library at Mount Char
At that price, I had to pick up a copy. I'm not sure I'll have the time to join in this month, but I'm going to try.

For some reason, the Kindle edition costs €12.99 over here on Amazon.de. Still, I'm tempted to buy it...
Edit: Amazon.com says $14.36?

Here is a link to the Kindle version on sale in the U.S., Ekel.http://www.amazon.com/Library-at-Moun...
I know. When I view the site, it still states $14.36. Beside that, I cannot order from Amazon.com anyway, because I have to login from the .de domain. Some things still puzzle me...
Aww, that sucks. I know that the US deals often are not valid in other countries. Something to do with publishing rights, I guess.
Charlene wrote: "At that price, I had to pick up a copy. I'm not sure I'll have the time to join in this month, but I'm going to try."I know Charlene! I couldn't believe it and had to get it whether I get to read it November or not but I'm going to try.
@Ekel I'm sorry they don't have it for that price on yours. I don't understand why they do those things, but I guess it's different times for pricing for all the different countries :(
I'm getting the Ebook since its 2.99 and if I get a hard copy it will take ages. I will try to read it now, I've been in a non slump slump, can only take tv after work but today I'm actually back to reading :)

I'm going to try my hardest to work this in, this month. :)
You have a lot going on as well huh? Sorry I can't do a proper reply, the phone app is great but missing some standard features.
I've been watching a Halloween marathon on tv in the background, and I'm all ready intrigued with this story after two pages in, just checking it out.

You can read the first chapter for free on the authors website: http://www.shawkins.net/assets/MountC...
I'm about 100 pages in, and it's completely awesome and weird (like Neil Gaiman weird). I can't put it down. Happy Halloween!
Hey Ruthie, I love when that happens, you open the book and literally can't put it down, best reading ever. I'm deeply into my current book so I'm hesitant to start this as well, maybe I'm being weird and should just read both at once.
Latasha wrote: "Nov1."Thanks! I just finished a book I was reading, so was able to start The Library at Mount Char straightaway. 28% into the ebook. Intriguing mythology, good back story and characterisation, well-written. Not much seems to be holding together at this point, and I am wondering if Hawkins is going to lose control of all the gonzo weirdness. But compulsively readable thus far. For once, the comparisons to Gaiman and Hill seem quite apt.
oh my, I am glad this one won, I didn't vote for it and most likely would never have picked it up if it wasn't the book of the month here. Such an ODD book, I just love it!Only read a few chapters so far but I am totally hooked. So I go to the authors GR page and see that the only things he written before this is linux manuals. That is a story in itself. I can picture this man sitting by his computer and secretly tap down a few pages now and then inbetween all that horrible manual-stuff.
I so hope he will write more novels!
I'm in! Been in the group for a while but have read the past few months books. This one looks awesome
3/4 of the way through this book so far and it isn't doing anything for me at all. I'm not one to put a book down after starting it so I will finish it. At least my library had the ebook version.
I like the fact that the author implicitly trusts the reader to make sense of his madness. Lots of indelible imagery; also quite gore-soaked.
I'm halfway through The Library at Mount Char and although I'm enjoying it, I would have to say that I think it belongs more in the fantasy genre than the horror genre. It's clever and entertaining but not scary.

Quite a different take on The Lion King...
I agree about the Fantasy more than horror. Happy I got to read it in 1 day I would not have wanted to waste much more time with it.
I've read Horns, very good. I also read Coldbrook by Tim Lebbons which was one of the alternates, excellent!
I'm about 10% in and confused, but I like the tone so far even if it doesn't make a great deal of sense.
Brian wrote: "I'm about 10% in and confused, but I like the tone so far even if it doesn't make a great deal of sense."The whole thing makes little sense tbh.

Definitely an odd book. About 36% in. Lots of gore. (view spoiler)
Honestly I don't know how anyone likes this story. It is a jumbled mess of nothingness that makes little sense other than the massive amounts of gore which is not a bad thing but doesn't make for a good novel. The Library thing a good idea but the author took it the wrong direction.
I'm only at 11% and it's just ok so far. however, in light of my recent picks, I've decided to start a new rule. If a book has not caught my interest by 100 pages I'm moving on!

yeah, there is just too many things I want to read and not enough free time in the day! :)
This book is completely mental, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it! I can definitely see why it's not for everyone, though. The synopsis said it was a cross between Neil Gaiman and Joe Hill, but there's a pretty strong feeling of Jeff Strand and/or Christopher Moore here, IMO. I'm just going to trust that it'll all make sense in the end, because right now I am loving the ride.
