Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 2262 comments Amazon has the book for $2.99 on kindle right now for those that are interested :)

message 3: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments At that price, I had to pick up a copy. I'm not sure I'll have the time to join in this month, but I'm going to try.

message 4: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (kate_broderick) Definitely looking forward to reading it!

For some reason, the Kindle edition costs €12.99 over here on Amazon.de. Still, I'm tempted to buy it...

Edit: Amazon.com says $14.36?

Char | 17459 comments Here is a link to the Kindle version on sale in the U.S., Ekel.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I know. When I view the site, it still states $14.36. Beside that, I cannot order from Amazon.com anyway, because I have to login from the .de domain. Some things still puzzle me...

message 8: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments Aww, that sucks. I know that the US deals often are not valid in other countries. Something to do with publishing rights, I guess.

Joana Gomez | 1 comments Can't wait to start the book for November

I know Charlene! I couldn't believe it and had to get it whether I get to read it November or not but I'm going to try.

@Ekel I'm sorry they don't have it for that price on yours. I don't understand why they do those things, but I guess it's different times for pricing for all the different countries :(

message 11: by Finnegan (new)

Finnegan (finnbevi) Just bought this because it was super cheap on Kindle, might join in for once :)

Ruthie Jones (ruthie65) | 5 comments What a coincidence. I got this from the library a few days ago. Reading it now!

I'm getting the Ebook since its 2.99 and if I get a hard copy it will take ages. I will try to read it now, I've been in a non slump slump, can only take tv after work but today I'm actually back to reading :)

It would be awesome to have you here. I'm going to try my hardest to work this in, this month. :)

You have a lot going on as well huh? Sorry I can't do a proper reply, the phone app is great but missing some standard features.

I've been watching a Halloween marathon on tv in the background, and I'm all ready intrigued with this story after two pages in, just checking it out.

Leah Polcar | 40 comments Thanks for the cheap e-book advice for those of us who can use Amazon.com. I am in!

message 20: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) Been a while for me, but I might join in. Especially at that price.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I got his one from the library, so I'll join in!

message 22: by Ruthie (new)

Ruthie Jones (ruthie65) | 5 comments I'm about 100 pages in, and it's completely awesome and weird (like Neil Gaiman weird). I can't put it down. Happy Halloween!

message 23: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasia_s) | 4513 comments Mod
Hey Ruthie, I love when that happens, you open the book and literally can't put it down, best reading ever. I'm deeply into my current book so I'm hesitant to start this as well, maybe I'm being weird and should just read both at once.

message 24: by JoyToy (new)

JoyToy | 74 comments Its ok to be weird Kasia!! ;3 I'm waiting 'til I'm done with Doctor Sleep to start in on this one.

Kasia, I've been reading while amc's Halloween marathon is going in the background.

Thanks! I just finished a book I was reading, so was able to start The Library at Mount Char straightaway. 28% into the ebook. Intriguing mythology, good back story and characterisation, well-written. Not much seems to be holding together at this point, and I am wondering if Hawkins is going to lose control of all the gonzo weirdness. But compulsively readable thus far. For once, the comparisons to Gaiman and Hill seem quite apt.

message 30: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
yes I agree with the not much holding together but let's see where all this goes :)

message 31: by Pixelina (new)

Pixelina | 64 comments oh my, I am glad this one won, I didn't vote for it and most likely would never have picked it up if it wasn't the book of the month here. Such an ODD book, I just love it!
Only read a few chapters so far but I am totally hooked. So I go to the authors GR page and see that the only things he written before this is linux manuals. That is a story in itself. I can picture this man sitting by his computer and secretly tap down a few pages now and then inbetween all that horrible manual-stuff.

I so hope he will write more novels!

message 32: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Mitchell | 1 comments I'm in! Been in the group for a while but have read the past few months books. This one looks awesome

message 33: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) 3/4 of the way through this book so far and it isn't doing anything for me at all. I'm not one to put a book down after starting it so I will finish it. At least my library had the ebook version.

message 34: by Gerhard (new)

Gerhard (gerhardh) | 7 comments I like the fact that the author implicitly trusts the reader to make sense of his madness. Lots of indelible imagery; also quite gore-soaked.

message 35: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) Disliked it. 2/5 stars.

message 36: by Leah (new)

Leah Polcar | 40 comments Linux manuals? Bleech. The poor man.

Gerhard (gerhardh) | 7 comments Leah wrote: "Linux manuals? Bleech. The poor man."

Could explain the copious blood-letting.

message 38: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Shawcroft | 22 comments I'm halfway through The Library at Mount Char and although I'm enjoying it, I would have to say that I think it belongs more in the fantasy genre than the horror genre. It's clever and entertaining but not scary.

Gerhard (gerhardh) | 7 comments Veronica wrote: "I'm halfway through The Library at Mount Char and although I'm enjoying it, I would have to say that I think it belongs more in the fantasy genre than the horror genre. It's clever and entertaining..."

Not sure, Veronica. If it is fantasy, it is more akin to Clive Barker. Agree about it being 'clever and entertaining'. I love the lions, Dresden and Naga. Quite a different take on The Lion King...

message 40: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Shawcroft | 22 comments Well, I'm only halfway through; by the end, I may change my mind, who knows.....

message 41: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) I agree about the Fantasy more than horror. Happy I got to read it in 1 day I would not have wanted to waste much more time with it.

message 42: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) I'd suggest reading the alternate Horns if you're contemplating between both.

message 43: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Shawcroft | 22 comments I've read Horns, very good. I also read Coldbrook by Tim Lebbons which was one of the alternates, excellent!

message 44: by Brian (new)

Brian Mcclain | 53 comments I'm about 10% in and confused, but I like the tone so far even if it doesn't make a great deal of sense.

Ed (blacksabbathed) Brian wrote: "I'm about 10% in and confused, but I like the tone so far even if it doesn't make a great deal of sense."

The whole thing makes little sense tbh.

Definitely an odd book. About 36% in. Lots of gore. (view spoiler)

message 47: by Ed (new)

Ed (blacksabbathed) Honestly I don't know how anyone likes this story. It is a jumbled mess of nothingness that makes little sense other than the massive amounts of gore which is not a bad thing but doesn't make for a good novel. The Library thing a good idea but the author took it the wrong direction.

I'm only at 11% and it's just ok so far. however, in light of my recent picks, I've decided to start a new rule. If a book has not caught my interest by 100 pages I'm moving on!

yeah, there is just too many things I want to read and not enough free time in the day! :)

message 50: by Robert (new)

Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments This book is completely mental, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it! I can definitely see why it's not for everyone, though. The synopsis said it was a cross between Neil Gaiman and Joe Hill, but there's a pretty strong feeling of Jeff Strand and/or Christopher Moore here, IMO. I'm just going to trust that it'll all make sense in the end, because right now I am loving the ride.
