SOLVED. YA Man finds himself in a town he can't leave [s]

This one is tough since there aren't too many details I can recall. I believe I was in middle school around 2000 when I read it. It was about this man who I believe was a young adult (could have been a teenager) was running away from something in his truck and ends up in this town. He ends up staying there for a while, things get uncomfortable, and when he tries to leave I think he wakes up with broken ribs and is back in the town. For some reason I keep thinking the word "Red" is in the title.

Can you describe the town, its location, the people, etc.?

There was a TV series this summer with that premise based on a series of books by Blake Crouch "Wayward Pines".

I don't remember any fantasy elements, it seemed to be a pretty "normal" place except that nobody could leave the town. I remember the setting being pretty rustic.

It was narrated from the point of view of the man who had found this town and was trying to leave it.
