OMG we have a thread already?? It's still October, right? I'm next in line for this eBook from my library, so if we can wait until the 2nd week of November so I know I'll have the book (lending period is 21 days), that would be my preference. If not, I can always catch up.
I'm fine with Nov 9. I'm pretty sure I have this one on my kindle already. Guess I should double check that though, LOL.
Hey guys! Super excited to read this book with you guys! Never done a buddy read before so this is all new to me.
Kristin wrote: "Hey guys! Super excited to read this book with you guys! Never done a buddy read before so this is all new to me."Buddy reads are fairly simple. We just discuss as we're reading it. You find something cool, come here and tell us about it! Don't give anything away though! If your comment will reveal something about the plot, be sure to use the < spoiler > html code you'll find at the top right of the comment box to tell you how to hide the comment so that nothing gets ruined for the rest of us. I hope you have fun!
Kristin wrote: "Awesome! Do we read the book at our own pace or do you have a reading schedule?"
Sort of both. Usually the buddy read members will schedule a day to start it, then we just read at our own pace until we finish it. I'll be fast with it, as I try to read a book a day.

Wow! A book a day! Impressive haha.

I try! It keeps my brain exercised.
Kristin wrote: "Hey guys! Super excited to read this book with you guys! Never done a buddy read before so this is all new to me."Welcome to our crew! I've just started doing BR here and it's fun. The first one took me about 5 days, the last one took about three weeks -- so it can vary widely. Somehow I've managed to sign up for 3 this month, I hope I can keep up. :)
And I'm all set fo the 9th as well. Thank you everyone!
I started this as my bedtime book last night, but got confused very quickly. There's a novella prequel for this:
, that I'm going to go read before I get any further in the book. Maybe that will help clarify things!
Oh no... I hope the novella isn't necessary. I rarely get them and my library doesn't carry it. In any case, I plan to start this tomorrow on my lunch hour and come back to check in.
Colleen wrote: "Oh no... I hope the novella isn't necessary. I rarely get them and my library doesn't carry it. In any case, I plan to start this tomorrow on my lunch hour and come back to check in."
It really isn't from what I can tell. It's done in two Points of View, just like in Legend. Day's POV is about something that was asked in the next book, that flashes back to before this one. June's POV is about her entrance into Drake University and her feelings about it. We do get Day's full name and a bit of what happened to him before Legend though.
I'm halfway through it and not enjoying it much. I just read and finished
right in the middle of reading this. Does not bode well for my opinion of the book...
I'm reading the library version eBook and it doesn't have chapters (or page numbers for that matter), but I'm approximately 50 pages in. (view spoiler)
My daughter just said the same thing, Colleen. I'm about 150 pages in (50-ish%) and it's still slow!
I've read about 50 pages so far the characters ore concept of the story are not appealing to me at all.
Would it be safe to say that we're not going to continue the series?I'm undecided about it, honsestly. I was bored throughout this book, and though the pacing picked up a bit, my interest didn't.
I am struggling through this one and I'm about 30% in. It's just moving so slow. I actually used it as a sleep aid last night!! LOL I was having trouble sleeping so I read a few pages and I was out like a light. I did notice one thing though (view spoiler) I don't know if that's significant though.
I'm about 30% in as well. *yawn* The writing is not very engaging, but I'm beginning to get curious about a couple things.
Brittany; I didn't catch that, but (view spoiler)
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ wrote: "I'm commited to reading this for about an hour hopefully the story will move along soon."It really doesn't, even after the 50% mark. Was boring until the end for me.

I'm finding that although the story is moving slowly for there is a wealth of information being dump on the reader. I don't know if it was intentional or not but that's why its moving so slowly for me.Also I despice Commander Jameson.
I finished this last night and while I thought it did get a tad better later on, it was still just 'meh' for me. I found it to be completely predictable with the exception of (view spoiler). I didn't see that coming. I don't think I'll be continuing on with the series
Finished this the other day. Even though I rated it 3 Stars I'm thinking f continuing o the next book to see if the flaws I found are corrected.
Just finished and I rated it 3, but really find it 2.5 I've read other YA dystopians that were much better written, so this paled in comparison to those.
(view spoiler)
Ladies, since the December Buddy Reads sign ups are now up, do we wish to continue the series? I have a post up to keep a couple of threads open and I can add this thread to it, if we decide to continue.
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ wrote: "I want to continue"I've added the thread to my request to keep it open then!
I'm unsure. I might pop in to see what you think though. If it appears to improve I might give it another try.
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ wrote: "I want to continue"Like Brittany and Colleen, I was also unsure about continuing, but since you can't discuss it alone, Angie, I'll read it with you. When do you want to schedule it for?
I've read first hundred pages of Prodigy. I can definitely say it's moving much faster than the first book without all the worldbuilding and other explanations featured. Kinda disliking June in this one so far. The insight to Day's character and beliefs unfolds as the story moves along.

That's fine just wanted to share my thoughts about what I read so far. I aslo think Day is a bit naive about the Patriots and their goals.
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ wrote: "That's fine just wanted to share my thoughts about what I read so far. I'm only about 25% in, and agree with you about Day being naive. The plot they've hatched too, carries a lot of risk, and I'm not liking the love triangle I see forming.
Took me forever, but I finished this one this morning. I didn't like it. What was the point of going to the Colonies in the first place? Too much of it was unnecessary, and boring. I'm sorry, Angie, but I'm abandoning this series. It just wasn't holding my interest.
I actually like this book better than the first one. The point of going to the Colonies was to show how much like The Republic it really is. The Colonies have the same problems as The Republic at least that's what I got out of it.
