Date Chapter PPDQs*
May 1 Hx of World - Chp.3 Lisa Kay
May 2 Chp.04-07 Lauren
May 3 Chp.08-11 Lisa Kay
May 4 Chp.12-14 Lauren
May 5 Chp.15-18 Lisa Kay
May 6 Chp.19-23 Lisa Kay
May 7 Chp.24-31 Lauren

I'll do the next set of DQs :0) It probably won't be until Friday morning my time though because I'm working late today.

Hope you're feeling better, Lisa Kay.
No worries - we can take this BR slowly :0)
Take care of yourself!

1. What do you think of Anne Bishop’s world? It seems similar to ours in America, with the Others or the terra indigene taking on the role – be it much more sinister in nature – of the Native American Indian, and with a decidedly bigger difference in the historical power struggle outcome.
2. What is your impression of cs759 – AKA Meg Corbyn? I’m not clear about her prophesy about her death and the guy – is Simon, right? – in the green pullover sweater. Nor her seeing Simon in that white room she’s trapped in, “pacing and snarling.” What did you make of this?
3. Meg seems like a fast learner. I think anything she doesn’t catch on to in her environment will be chalked up to her being from the Simple Life community and not a prison compound; but, that will probably only work so far. You?
4. What is your impression of Simon? He’s pulling his hair out over Meg smelling different than prey. Is there going to be a love storyline here? And do you think she is 100% human?
5. Simon thinks Asia Crane desires him, but it appears she has much more ulterior motives. I don’t like that she’s turned her attentions on the new Human Liaison; I definitely see her nosiness causing Meg problems, both little and big. Who do you think Mr. Bigwig is? Do you think he will have a connection to Meg’s former Controller?
6. So, what type of terra indigene do you think Tess is? Certainly something we haven’t learned about yet, right? Do you like her character? Will she be friend, foe, or indifferent to Meg? How about Jester? Henry? Vladimir?
7. Do you think the three men who trespassed into the Courtyard were looking for Meg? What about the white van?
8. Whoa. What did you think about the story of the Drowned City? Sinkholes!? What of the water tax and Simon’s sister, Daphne? These certainly establish the dangerousness of the Others.
9. Do you like Monty? Do you think Simon knows about his history in killing a pedophile that held that little terra indigene girl? Do you think Monty’s heart is place in trying to get the Others to see humans as more than “clever meat”? Or is he on a dangerous path?
10. Elementals! – I couldn’t help but notice that this type of terra indigene was smack-dab in the middle of that map at the front of the book! Eep! I certainly hope that is indicated on Meg’s map. Comments.

I agree - the world building is fantastic!
Answering DQs now :0)

1. What do you think of Anne Bishop’s world? It seems similar to ours in America, with the Others or the terra indigene taking on the role – be it much more sinister in nature – of the Native American Indian, and with a decidedly bigger difference in the historical power struggle outcome.
Yes, the names are similar enough to locations in the US to make that connection but there are also differences that adds to the alternate world atmosphere.
The word "Others" and their sinister nature has created an association in my mind to the Others in "Lost" - I wonder if any of the Others are polar bears, lol!
I like Meg - she has a core of inner strength and courage that is very appealing.
It looks like she has "seen" her own death or what she believes is her own death and Simon is with her. Perhaps the white room and her being tied down means that she has been captured by the Controller and Simon has either come to rescue her or he is also a prisoner - but then why isn't he tied down too?
3. Meg seems like a fast learner. I think anything she doesn’t catch on to in her environment will be chalked up to her being from the Simple Life community and not a prison compound; but, that will probably only work so far. You?
Wow! That short description of her training is really freaky. Does it mean that she was born at that compound or taken their very young?
Yes, it will be explained away at first but I think that Simon will get to the truth quickly
4. What is your impression of Simon? He’s pulling his hair out over Meg smelling different than prey. Is there going to be a love storyline here? And do you think she is 100% human?
Yes, it does look like a romance is brewing. I think he's wary of her because she doesn't smell like prey. He doesn't know what to make of her.
Simon and the Others in general are very different from the usual supernatural in UF and PNR. Definitely scarier, but there is also an honor to them that seems to be missing from the humans.
I don't like Asia - she seems to be quite manipulative and won't hesitate to use Meg, which could get her into serious hot water with the Others. I hope Meg is able to see through her.
As to the connection between the Bigwig and the Controller, I was thinking the same until Asia mentioned the white van driving past the Human Liaison office. Who's in that van - reps from the Controller or someone else?
6. So, what type of terra indigene do you think Tess is? Certainly something we haven’t learned about yet, right? Do you like her character? Will she be friend, foe, or indifferent to Meg? How about Jester? Henry? Vladimir?
Yes, I like Tess. I think that Tess is an Elemental of some kind and probably very powerful is Simon is wary of her. She seems friendly enough but only time will tell.
Jester is a coyote and therefore a Trickster character, so he will probably get Meg into trouble but hopefully in a good way.
Don't know enough about Vladimir and Henry yet but on the face of it, they are interesting characters.
7. Do you think the three men who trespassed into the Courtyard were looking for Meg? What about the white van?
Yes, I think they were looking for Meg and the white van is connected to her as well.
8. Whoa. What did you think about the story of the Drowned City? Sinkholes!? What of the water tax and Simon’s sister, Daphne? These certainly establish the dangerousness of the Others.
Yes, they are dangerous and don't trust humans to catch and punish those who seek to harm the Others. They take care of their own. Despite their threatening natures, it looks like they are being established as the more positive group as compared to the humans. After all, the humans invaded their territory and they are merely protecting themselves.
9. Do you like Monty? Do you think Simon knows about his history in killing a pedophile that held that little terra indigene girl? Do you think Monty’s heart is place in trying to get the Others to see humans as more than “clever meat”? Or is he on a dangerous path?
Yes, I like Monty. He doesn't let prejudice color his actions. I have to wonder though whether he will think twice about helping an Other now that he has suffered as a result of helping them before.
No, I don't think Simon knows anything about Monty yet but he probably will soon enough.
Yes, his heart is in the right place but I'm not sure it will work.
10. Elementals! – I couldn’t help but notice that this type of terra indigene was smack-dab in the middle of that map at the front of the book! Eep! I certainly hope that is indicated on Meg’s map. Comments.
I went back to look at the map after Meg gets hers and noticed that as well. If the Shapeshifters and Sanguinati are the "pretty face" of the Others then the Elementals might just be the dangerous sibling that is better kept hidden and out of sight!

11. That Asia is such a bitch! How dare she call Meg a "feeb". I hope she ends up as lunch!
12. Did Simon overreact when he threatened Asia? If the Others have no problem attacking humans and HLDNA, then why doesn't he just kill her?
13. I'm confused about the cutting. Is it a compulsion or the only way for the girls to feel something in their sterile existence or the only way to release the prophecy when they feel it coming on with the tingling? Thoughts.
14. I'm not sure why the Others want a liaison. Some of them seem to be more annoyed at Meg's presence than anything else while others are willing to protect and befriend her. Thoughts.
15. Hmmm...are the ponies shape shifters too? Do they eat meat like the others?
16. Erebus allows Meg into The Chambers and calls her "sweet blood" - should she be worried?
17. Jean seems to know a lot about the Others and the outside world. Did she escape and get recaptured? Why did she encourage Meg to escape? Did she have a vision?
18. The girl on the lake is Winter. I guess her sisters are the other seasons. Is she an Elemental? Why was Winter surprised by Meg's kindness.
19. What about the old woman's prophecy to Simon that he will save someone who will then save a person he cares about? I think it is Meg he saves and then she saves his nephew, Sam. Any ideas?
20. Meg is a blood prophet. Is that why she doesn't smell like prey? I also love how some of the Others call her "the Meg" as if she is unique, lol!
21. The Others have decided to keep Meg but the Contoller and those interested in he prophecies of the Cassandra Sangue probably aren’t going to give her up without a fight. Is there a battle brewing?

#1 – Yes, very atmospheric! LOL over the polar bears. ☺
#2 – Oh! Good question about why isn’t he tied down. **smacks forehead**
#3 – Another good question about whether she was born there are not. Yeah, I don’t think Simon missed much.
#4 – I agree, definitely scarier, but with more honor. So, what Horror & Honor Combo? ☺
#5 & #7 – I was thinking the white van was from the Controller, but after reading the next section, I think maybe Bigwig.
#6 – I’m loving all the Others characters’. Just really enjoying them and this book. It is hard for me to pick a favorite.
#9 – I like Monty – and even Kowalski. I think Monty will have some hard decisions to face.

11. That Asia is such a bitch! How dare she call Meg a "feeb". I hope she ends up as lunch!
LOL! I know! I just disliked her at the beginning; however, after each encounter the feeling has grown to hate.
12. Did Simon overreact when he threatened Asia? If the Others have no problem attacking humans and HLDNA, then why doesn't he just kill her?
I think Simon want the Others/Human thing to work to some extent, so that keeps her safe for now. I think Monty, as a human, has the best grasp on Simon’s true self… that he comes across as very threatening even when he doesn’t mean to be that threatening, because it is so strongly imbedded in his nature.
13. I'm confused about the cutting. Is it a compulsion or the only way for the girls to feel something in their sterile existence or the only way to release the prophecy when they feel it coming on with the tingling? Thoughts.
I think the Controller is using the euphoria the cassandra sangue feel with cutting as a way to control them; I think that euphoria is just a side-effect of the cutting. I think the cutting is the only way to release a prophecy; however, I think something a little different is going one with Meg and that when she gets those tingling sensations it means she will develop the ability for prophecy without cutting. I sure hope so, anyway.
14. I'm not sure why the Others want a liaison. Some of them seem to be more annoyed at Meg's presence than anything else while others are willing to protect and befriend her. Thoughts.
I think the Others just want a Human Liaison as a way to handle the mail and stuff with which they don’t want to deal. I think the position was originally just part and parcel of a treaty. I think Meg will win the Others over one by one. She sure has her work cut out for her.
15. Hmmm...are the ponies shape shifters too? Do they eat meat like the others?
I believe they might be some type of shape shifter. Oh! Good question about their liking meat. We’ll see.
16. Erebus allows Meg into The Chambers and calls her "sweet blood" - should she be worried?
I think Meg has made a powerful friend. I think he might know what she is. I don’t think Meg has anything to fear from him, but maybe one of the other Sanguinati.
17. Jean seems to know a lot about the Others and the outside world. Did she escape and get recaptured? Why did she encourage Meg to escape? Did she have a vision?
I think Jean was probably born outside captivity. I also think she escaped and was recaptured. I think she was encouraging all of them to escape, but you could be right, maybe she had a vision about Meg specifically.
18. The girl on the lake is Winter. I guess her sisters are the other seasons. Is she an Elemental? Why was Winter surprised by Meg's kindness.
Yup. She’s an Elemental. I think her sisters are not only the other seasons, but other elements as well. I don’t think Winter ever had a human be kind to her – and maybe not many of the Others, as they’re afraid of the Elementals, too.
19. What about the old woman's prophecy to Simon that he will save someone who will then save a person he cares about? I think it is Meg he saves and then she saves his nephew, Sam. Any ideas?
Oh! Yes, the old woman’s prophecy was about Meg. I was just thinking she would save his people, but yes, I think you’re right; Meg will somehow save Sam, specifically.
20. Meg is a blood prophet. Is that why she doesn't smell like prey? I also love how some of the Others call her "the Meg" as if she is unique, lol!
LOL! Yes, love that “the” in front of her name. I agree, her blood smells differently because of her seer ability.
21. The Others have decided to keep Meg but the Controller and those interested in the prophecies of the Cassandra Sangue probably aren’t going to give her up without a fight. Is there a battle brewing?
Definitely! A big one, I’m guessing.

22. Man-oh-man! Don’t drink that hot chocolate, Meg! Don’t drink it! Don’t take anything from Asia. That Asia is irking me more and more. Such a bitch.
23. What do you think of Captain Burke? If his primary motive is for Lakeside not to become another Drowned City, he will now have to contend with the motivations of the mayor and the governor – not to mention the Controller! Hopefully, his desire to live, but still remain in a position to keep his city and family safe, will overcome any pressure they apply.
24. What was Vlad’s motive in “shaking” Monty’s hand?
25. I love Meg’s interplay with the ponies, but I’m now thinking they are much, much more than just shape shifters. You? I laughed over Jester enjoying the consequences of Meg’s activities on Elliot, but I’m worried that Elliot might cause some problems for Meg with her job. And I find it interesting that Simon didn’t tell Elliot about Meg. Thoughts?
26. Whoa. Simon just dumps Sam on Meg? Although I can certainly see why, he can be so assumingly arrogant sometimes. Interesting. And Meg stands up to Simon over the razor? I wasn’t expecting that, but good for her. Comments.
27. What is going on Jerzy and Western Thasia? Is it a disease? Are the humans taking a drug – or unknowingly being given one – that is causing those side-effects? If it is the latter, then why? Just for supremacy? (This makes me more and more suspicious about that hot chocolate Asia gave Meg!) Are the Others that are affected just ones that have eaten those humans? And what about that conversation between a client and the Controller at the end of Chapter 9?
28. What did you think of Meg’s “safety line” and the “adventure buddies” idea? I think this is NOT going to go over well with all the Wolves, but I don’t know about Simon; I’m thinking he might like the end result, as it is better than a cage. In addition, I didn’t like the Pet Palace owner’s interest in Meg having a Wolf pup. Sometimes Meg is just too, too naïve, though that is to be expected.
29. See? I don’t think Meg’s imagination was being “overactive” in the plaza parking lot; I think she was experiencing a bit of her seer ability. Looks like her desire to cut also precedes this. What do you make of it?
30. Am I the only one thinking Vlad is getting fonder and fonder of Meg – in “that” way? (Even if he doesn’t realize it himself.) Or am I way off-base here?
31. Looks like you were right, Lauren; Meg had a vision about some danger to Sam. The Others sure rallied over this. Anything to add about their group meeting about it?
32. Thoughts on Meg’s encounter with Winter after she gave Winter the scarf?

22. Man-oh-man! Don’t drink that hot chocolate, Meg! Don’t drink it! Don’t take anything from Asia. That Asia is irking me more and more. Such a bitch.
I was just thinking that Asia might put something in Meg's drink!
Burke's basically a good person and he's trying to keep the humans safe within the confines of his job and the pressures from above. Right now he's walking a thin line...
24. What was Vlad’s motive in “shaking” Monty’s hand?
A threat ... he wanted Monty to know that he doesn't trust him
Thoughts?
Yes, there is definitely more to the ponies than meets the eye AND they are the Elementals' steeds. I find it interesting that the Elementals stay in the background and even if the humans managed to destroy the shapeshifters and the vampires, the Elementals would annihilate them.
Elliot is a figurehead and I have to wonder whether he is happy with that position ... Perhaps Simon has reason to keep Meg's true identity secret from him
26. Whoa. Simon just dumps Sam on Meg? Although I can certainly see why, he can be so assumingly arrogant sometimes. Interesting. And Meg stands up to Simon over the razor? I wasn’t expecting that, but good for her. Comments.
Glad Meg isn't allowing Simon to walk all over her.
The fact that Simon leaves Sam with her does show that he trusts her - Sam means everything to him and he wouldn't let just anyone take care of him
It looks like someone is drugging the humans on a small scale as an experiment to see what will happen both to them and to the Others who eat them. If the experiment is a success, they may try on a larger scale.
Regarding the conversation between the Controller and the Client, it sounds like the client had no idea about the experiment - he only wanted to know if there was a way to increase his profits.
I do want to know what the drug is exactly and why they say "gone over the wolf"
Yes, Meg is naive but she also has great survival instincts and the buddy rope idea was inspired.
Once Simon realizes the good it has done Sam, he will accept it like Blair does
29. See? I don’t think Meg’s imagination was being “overactive” in the plaza parking lot; I think she was experiencing a bit of her seer ability. Looks like her desire to cut also precedes this. What do you make of it?
It looks like Meg's addiction to cutting is subsiding - she is "seeing" things without it.
30. Am I the only one thinking Vlad is getting fonder and fonder of Meg – in “that” way? (Even if he doesn’t realize it himself.) Or am I way off-base here?
Perhaps but I don't think its going to go anywhere as Simon is obviously the love interest
31. Looks like you were right, Lauren; Meg had a vision about some danger to Sam. The Others sure rallied over this. Anything to add about their group meeting about it?
I really like the fact that the Others trust Meg and are getting closer to her - it's like having a really large family looking out for you ... only this family has large teeth!
32. Thoughts on Meg’s encounter with Winter after she gave Winter the scarf?
I wouldn't want to get on Winter's bad side!

#23 – A very thin line, indeed!
#24 – That and just how very dangerous he is!
#25 – Yes, Elliot is an enigma.
#27 – I agree; they’re testing a drug. I also agree that the Client didn’t know about the experiment.
#30 – I don’t think it will go anywhere, either. Which is good, because I’m not a fan of love-triangles. I just think it will elevate Vlad’s consciousness (to use a 60’s term ☺)
#31 – LOL!
#32 – Oh, no! Definitely not.

#30 - I'm also not a fan of love triangles so I really hope it doesn't go that route.
Does Vlad need his consciousness elevated ;0)?

LOL! Welllllll... I hope you don't run into him in a dark alley until it is. ☺

LOL! Welllllll... I hope you don't run into him in a dark alley until it is. ☺"
LMAO! Note to self - stay out of dark allies!

33. Stag sticks, lol!
34. Jeez! For a second I thought the wolf in the store attacked Meg. Heart rate went through the roof! That Ferus is SCARY!
35. I love how Meg is holding her own with the Others. Telling Jack he wouldn't be able to play with the pencils was precious!
36. So now we know who might want to take Sam. Does Asia seriously think she could try something like that and the Others wouldn't rip her to shreds? She obviously has no instincts for self preservation or maybe she's just plain stupid!
37. What do you think of Erebus's cryptic comment about Namid's creations? Why is he now willing to take the package from Meg's hand? Does he know something about the cassandra sangue?
38. Although Elliot's anger is understandable (despite the fact that Meg's intentions with Sam are good) isn't his violence a little extreme (even Blair and Ferus didn't attack Meg)? Perhaps it is indicative of a deeper problem, which is why he isn't the leader of the courtyard and Simon doesn't trust him to watch Sam? Do you think he could convince the wolves to see Meg as prey? How would the other Others react if they did?
39. Who were the two girls Vlad drank from? Is it important?
40. So the blood in Simon's apartment was Elliot's and Sam bit him. Good for Sam! And Sam has shifted back to human ... Thoughts.
41. Grandfather Erebus's edict about Meg is some serious stuff if the Sanguinati and Vlad in particular are willing to kill a wolf ... Is that a good or a bad thing for the Others as a community?
42. The Sanguinati have their own code - no drinking from the young or from sweet bloods. I guess Meg's prophecies are both wondrous and terrible... Thoughts.
43. So the prophecies are in the blood - does that mean Meg will have to keep cutting to "see"?
44. "no male, human or Other, feels easy when teeth get too close to the chew toy." LMAO!!
45. Hmmm...is Simon jealous of Monty .... and Sam?

33. Stag sticks, lol!
FOFLMBO! I know, right? Poor Meg.
34. Jeez! For a second I thought the wolf in the store attacked Meg. Heart rate went through the roof! That Ferus is SCARY!
He is! … and I thought the same thing.
35. I love how Meg is holding her own with the Others. Telling Jack he wouldn't be able to play with the pencils was precious!
I know. I just love these characters and how Meg interacts with them. Love Jack, too.
36. So now we know who might want to take Sam. Does Asia seriously think she could try something like that and the Others wouldn't rip her to shreds? She obviously has no instincts for self preservation or maybe she's just plain stupid!
I’m with the Others… humans are clueless! Utterly and completely clueless!
37. What do you think of Erebus's cryptic comment about Namid's creations? Why is he now willing to take the package from Meg's hand? Does he know something about the cassandra sangue?
Good Gravy Beans! I LOVED that scene. I’ve read it several times. I love how he hesitated… and made me think, “What does he know? Is he afraid of her?” Yes, I figure he knows something.
Yup. I think you’re right on all those counts – and for all those reasons. Still, I hope he doesn’t rile up the Wolves against Meg.
39. Who were the two girls Vlad drank from? Is it important?
Just two girls he picked up. I think maybe he is getting his consciousness elevated. LOL!
40. So the blood in Simon's apartment was Elliot's and Sam bit him. Good for Sam! And Sam has shifted back to human ... Thoughts.
I know! After Elliot hit Meg, I was worried the blood was Sam’s. I thought we were going to have a major issue on our hands. Whew! Yes, good for Sam. His changing into human form to stand up for Meg broke my heart. Another great scene. Not easy to write, I image, what with Simon pulled in so many directions. A lot going on there, logistically and emotionally.
41. Grandfather Erebus's edict about Meg is some serious stuff if the Sanguinati and Vlad in particular are willing to kill a wolf ... Is that a good or a bad thing for the Others as a community?
I know! (Gosh, I’m saying that a lot.) It would be a bad thing for the Others’ community…but, I’m hoping things stay calm.
42. The Sanguinati have their own code - no drinking from the young or from sweet bloods. I guess Meg's prophecies are both wondrous and terrible... Thoughts.
Yup. I wouldn’t want to know them.
43. So the prophecies are in the blood - does that mean Meg will have to keep cutting to "see"?
Goodness, she’s cutting more than I thought she would… I hope she finds a way to stop. It is killing me almost as much as it does Simon.
44. "no male, human or Other, feels easy when teeth get too close to the chew toy." LMAO!!
FOFLMBO! Very true. Made me remember when my husband & I were first getting together; we were playing around and I went after his underwear with a pair of scissors (yes, he was in them). He TOTALLY freaked. I mentioned it to an older friend and they pretty much said the same thing. I never did anything like that again, even in jest.
45. Hmmm...is Simon jealous of Monty .... and Sam?
I’m thinking a little bit… but I’m glad he has enough self-awareness to question this himself.

BTW, I caved and used my B&N coupon to get the next one in hardback..."
I'll be getting the next one as well. Want to continue with the BR?

#37. I loved that scene too. I fact, I love all of Meg's interactions with the Others. They are both sweet yet intense at the same time.
#39. Giggle! Yes, he's definitely working at elevating his consciousness.
#40. I was also worried it was Sam's blood and was waiting for Simon to go ballistic on Elliot's ass (which he did in a way).
#41. I also hope things stay calm. Something tells me they are going to have to stick together to confront everything that is coming...
#44. LMAO!!!

Sure! You mean right away, correct?
#37 - Great way to say it. It is hard, I think, to pull off sweet and intense. Also hard to have a "sweet" heroine and pull it off in a book like this, when the current tread is "kick-ass heroine."
#39 - **giggles**
#40 - That's what I thought would happen!

Yes! Straight away! Lol!
#37. Yes, the trend is kick-ass and I love this type of heroine but there is something very appealing about Meg's mix of innocence and courage.
#44. Definitely a guy thing, lol!

Getting it from Kobo with my 50% coupon :0)

46. I always smile when Simon has those conflicting thoughts of Meg as a bunny, but I laughed out loud over Ferus’s sniffing of Asia’s crotch right there in the bookstore. LMBO! The way certain books sell out at Howling Good Reads after certain events is fun, too. I like that type of subtle humor. BOOK QUOTE: “If you drink one of the customers pale, we should sell out of the stack of vampire-as-lover stories.”
47. Well, Simon is certainly happier – not to mention more charming – in Wolf form, when it isn’t attack mode. Glad Meg recognized him – and that he was her “first” adult Wolf. (No subtle double entendre there at all, right?) And she finally called him “Simon” instead of “Mr. Wolfgard,” although she’s gone back to the formal mister now.
48. Man-oh-man! The flip side of Simon when jumped on that fake delivery guy, though. Woohee. What did you think of his questioning of Meg about the guy? What did you think of the bomb scare, Simon’s “in-between” shifting, the police response, Asia’s notes under the delivery van’s windshield (will someone figure out she’s the one who left them?), Henry tracking the guy… and Simon wanting the heart?
49. That bitch Asia called the Controller and told him she could help him reacquire his property! Ack! Then Bigwig! Then later she’s inquiring about that “cute pup” again. Man-oh-man! I sure hope she gets what is coming to her. Do you think Simon will figure out her reason for being with Darrell soon enough to save Sam? Or will it be Meg? Or someone else who does?
50. What did you think of Meg’s insult to Nathan and how she won him back over with comfort? And Simon’s response to Nathan’s gift? LOL!
51. I haven’t mentioned it before, but I really like the BOW weaved into the storyline. Sam’s discussion with Simon at the beginning of Chapter 18 was funny. Comments.
52. Poor Sam. I really felt for him when Meg was in the bathroom cutting herself. Alas, I’d hope she wouldn’t have to resort to that anymore. I also liked Henry’s question to Simon about her cutting and trust. Seems Simon wants Meg around a long, long time. Comments.

Lol! Yes, that was a fantastic scene. She would have deserved it if he'd bitten her!
Yes, I also glad that she recognized him and could distinguish between him and Nathan.
Movie night was so sweet and they were making real progress before Meg cut herself again although at least Simon didn't go all alpha wolf crazy on the spot and went to Henry for advice
Simon just throwing the suspect package into the street was interesting. If it had been a bomb it might have gone off and killed many human but I guess Simon could care less about that ... and the fact that he wanted to eat the heart was just another reminder that he and the Others are not human and don't have our norms or sensibilities.
The in-between shifting was cool - reminded me of the half forms of the shifters in Kate Daniels.
Simon is already suspicious of Asia but he still hasn't put two and two together. I hope he does before its too late...
Asia is playing both ends against the middle. It may come back to bite her ... or maybe Simon or one of the others will do that when they find out.
Asia is definitely going to die, and it will be interesting to see who actually does the deed. I'm thinking Erebus ... I wonder how he would go about it, hmmm...
50. What did you think of Meg’s insult to Nathan and how she won him back over with comfort? And Simon’s response to Nathan’s gift? LOL!
Meg is really clever - she manages the Others so well without them or her realizing that she's doing it, lol!
Simon has it bad.... ;0)
51. I haven’t mentioned it before, but I really like the BOW weaved into the storyline. Sam’s discussion with Simon at the beginning of Chapter 18 was funny. Comments.
Yes, I've been trying to imagine what the BOW looks like - perhaps something like this:

Yes, that conversation was funny. Meg isn't a good digger, lol!
52. Poor Sam. I really felt for him when Meg was in the bathroom cutting herself. Alas, I’d hope she wouldn’t have to resort to that anymore. I also liked Henry’s question to Simon about her cutting and trust. Seems Simon wants Meg around a long, long time. Comments.
Its a pity that she scared Sam, he is still traumatized. I really hope Asia doesn't get her grubby paws on him and make it even worse.
Simon ending up handling the situation quite well but I agree with him, I don't want Meg cutting herself either.

Do you want me to do them and you do the wrap up? I'm a little ahead. Sorry... couldn't stop.

Do you want me to do them and you do the wrap up? I'm a little ahead. Sorry... couldn't stop."
Yup, that's fine with me

#46 – She would! Definitely.
#47 – Yes, for a huge, scary Grizzly, Henry has some good advice.
#48 – That’s what I thought, that Simon really couldn’t care less, as long as it was out of the Courtyard. And I do like AB keeps reminding us of the true nature of the Others. I can also see why humans are more afraid of the freaky “in-between” states.
#49 – Yes, Erebus is a pretty frightening Other.
#50 – Yes, Meg does. She is all so innocent and big-hearted about it, so it isn’t manipulative at all. Oh, yeah… Simon’s got it bad… and he doesn’t even know it. Makes it more delicious. LOL! Not every author could pull that off.
#51 – OH! LOVE the BOW! Thanks!
#52 – Ditto! Ditto!

53. Asia is in way over her head. For a minute there, I wanted her to dabble with “gone over wolf,” but then I considered her potential victim. Still… she gave it to Darrell. What do you think was in that last vial the Controller gave her? Was it the stuff she put on the sugar cubes, or something even more dreadful?
54. Darrell was set up by Asia. Thoughts? Did you think the Others gave him enough benefit of the doubt?
55. Finally, Asia is banned from the Courtyard! Yay! **happy dance**
56. I did like the tug-of-war scene and it being discovered by Dan the delivery man. LOL!
57. So, Meg started having visions when she went into the back room. No warning tingling occurred prior. If the prickling under her skin is a warning or measuring stick, what was different in the situation? Just her instincts waking up? Her connection to and love of the ponies? Theories?
58. What was your impression of how Tess handled Meg’s cutting, her prophesy, and all those angry, angry males?
59. Whoa. Way to really pissed off Winter. Glad the ponies are safe. So, what did you think of Spring? BOOK QUOTE: “Namid has given you to us, and we value the world’s gifts.” What of her words causing a prickling under Meg’s skin?
60. Are you at all suspicious that any of these “special messengers” are one of the regular delivery men that interact with Meg?
61. Were you surprised at the police lab stonewalling the sugar cube test results? What of this “Humans First and Last” slogan; that won’t be good. And all the eggs and firecrackers? At least Monty, Karly and Captain Burke can see though all this.
62. Whoa. “If looks could kill.” That Tess is one scary Other. Comments.

I can't wait to see Asia get her just desserts!!! It's a pity she didn't give Darrell more of the drug and then he would have killed her!
I think that last vial was the poison that she put on the sugar cubes, the one she says leads to an immediate death sentence
54. Darrell was set up by Asia. Thoughts? Did you think about the Others gave him enough benefit of the doubt?
Based on what we know of the Others, I think they let him off lightly. He broke their rules, which should have meant death rather than merely getting fired. Maybe Meg is having a mellowing effect on them.
I also think that the Others aren't suspicious enough of Asia's motives, especially Simon. He knows there is something off about her but thinks that banishment is enough...
55. Finally, Asia is banned from the Courtyard! Yay! **happy dance**
Lol! Hooray! - Of course, she is now in cahoots with the Controller's people so she is still causing trouble...
56. I did like the tug-of-war scene and it being discovered by Dan the delivery man. LOL!
Yes me too! I really like how the shape-shifting Others assume traits from the animal natures. The crows like shiny things and the wolves are so playful, but AB also never lets us forget that they are predators
57. So, Meg started having visions when she went into the back room. No warning tingling occurred prior. If the prickling under her skin is a warning or measuring stick, what was different in the situation? Just her instincts waking up? Her connection to and love of the ponies? Theories?
Maybe now that Meg is no longer under the Controller's thumb, her abilities are manifesting themselves more naturally.
The room held a memory of what Asia had done there and Meg's instincts picked up on it. Perhaps it was also enhanced by the fact that she loves the ponies.
58. What was your impression of how Tess handled Meg’s cutting, her prophesy, and all those angry, angry males?
It looks like Tess and the rest of the Others consider Meg one of them now. Tess even fights her predatory instincts to help Meg because she doesn't want to betray the trust Meg has placed in them. I like how Meg feels safe enough to ask Tess for help.
As to the angry males - not sure if their reaction was an instinctual predatory one to the smell of blood or a possessive one because they now see Meg as one of them and their rage is a reaction to her pain and to someone possibly trying to harm her
59. Whoa. Way to really pissed off Winter. Glad the ponies are safe. So, what did you think of Spring? BOOK QUOTE: “Namid has given you to us, and we value the world’s gifts.” What of her words causing a prickling under Meg’s skin?
Yup! Winter is seriously pissed off. Maybe she will be the one to meet out punishment to Asia...it won't be pretty!
Spring is interesting. She seems so soft and gentle. Something tells me appearances can be deceiving ... I kept thinking of ways spring can be destructive while reading that passage.
Quote: Hmmm...the Elementals see Meg as a gift to be valued ... perhaps Meg's ability makes her an elemental of some kind?
60. Are you at all suspicious that any of these “special messengers” are one of the regular delivery men that interact with Meg?
You read my mind. I'm suspicious of the new guy who replaced the one who wouldn't come any more and perhaps Harry is just a little bit too nice....
61. Were you surprised at the police lab stonewalling the sugar cube test results? What of this “Humans First and Last” slogan; that won’t be good. And all the eggs and firecrackers? At least Monty, Karly and Captain Burke can see though all this.
Yes, all of those "pranks" are just too obvious to be written off easily.
"Humans First and Last" - typical supremacist slogan. It is just so typical of humans to have these superior attitudes. They come to Thaisia, invade the Others territory and then get annoyed when the Others want to protect themselves - argh!!!
62. Whoa. “If looks could kill.” That Tess is one scary Other. Comments.
The hair, the "look" and the myth all point to her being a Gorgon. Makes me wonder if in her true form she really does have snakes for hair and the changing color is just an illusion....

"
Awww! Sweet! Love the one in the top left hand corner :0)

63. Meg makes the connection between the storm and her prophecy. Did you ever think Simon would be responsible for her death?
64. Hurricane is shot! Did AB prepare readers for this when she mentioned how old he was?
65. Meg asks some good questions about the male children of the Cassandra Sangue. Any ideas?
66. Asia is so narcissistic she thinks Meg would be willing to just hand Sam over to her. She doesn't understand sacrificing for another.
67. Which is worse - death or having your eyes plucked out by crows?
68. The bad guys see Erebus as an old man easily taken care of. Is it simply prejudice or hubris or greed that makes the humans underestimate the Others? After the Drowned City and everything else they know about the Others, shouldn't they have been more wary?
69. The Sanguinati give new meaning to the word punishment. *shudder*
70. Who were the women who killed the messenger (lol, no pun intended)?
71. OMG! Is Asia delusional or what?! She still thinks she is going to escape and get her TV show.
72. So Tess wins the "kill Asia" award. Thoughts on what she did to Asia and what she is - Namid's most ferocious predator - the Harvester of Life.
73. The Hippocratic oath doesn't extend to the Others it seems.
74. Despite the actions of the enemy, the Others attitudes toward humans is changing and they see some of them as friends rather than just prey or not edibles. Perhaps with people like Monty, Burke, Kowalski, Merri Lee and Heather, there can be more than the wary truce between the Others and Humans. Thoughts.
75. Simon is a typical man - getting angry when the woman he cares about is hurt.
76. Wasn't expecting the Governor and the mayor to get killed. The Elementals sure know how to clean house!
77. "He did wonder which one would be the first to poke his head out the door to get a look at the unfamiliar police officer: the Wolf, the vampire, or the Crow." My money's on the crow :0)
78. Ferus is in the Ash Grove - is that a euphemism for cemetery? So sad that he died :0(
79. Is Dr. Lorenzo's interest in Meg going to cause trouble?
80. What was that strange interaction between Jester ans Simon about?
81. Is someone trying to turn Cassandra Sangue blood into a weapon?

#53 – **smacks forehead** I didn’t even think of Darrell killing her; yes, that would have definitely worked for me. (I’m getting violent in my old age.) LOL!
#54 – You’re right about Simon and his suspicions about Asia. Does he back off because she interacts with other Others well… although, I can’t think of a scenario.
#55 – True…
#56 – Again…true!
#57 – Maybe it was just the “perfect storm” of all of those things.
#58 – Insightful questions into the angry males.
#59 – Yeah. We know Asia is going down, we just don’t know by whom.
#59 – Good question about Spring’s destructive capability. Maybe overgrow something? Spring flood?
Regarding quote: I didn’t think of that!
#61 – Argh!
#62 – I’ve heard the term “Medusa” before, but not “Gorgon.” Thanks!

63. Meg makes the connection between the storm and her prophecy. Did you ever think Simon would be responsible for her death?
I never really thought she would die (there are books #2 & #3), and I quickly thought Simon was falling for her… so I didn’t think he’d harm her. However, I didn’t know that the white room was a hospital room. Duh! **smacks forehead**
64. Hurricane is shot! Did AB prepare readers for this when she mentioned how old he was?
I’m thinking, yes. So sad.
65. Meg asks some good questions about the male children of the Cassandra Sangue. Any ideas?
Sorry, clueless. You?
66. Asia is so narcissistic she thinks Meg would be willing to just hand Sam over to her. She doesn't understand sacrificing for another.
I know! That blew my mind.
67. Which is worse - death or having your eyes plucked out by crows?
I’d rather have a quick death. Ugh over the eye-plucking!
68. The bad guys see Erebus as an old man easily taken care of. Is it simply prejudice or hubris or greed that makes the humans underestimate the Others? After the Drowned City and everything else they know about the Others, shouldn't they have been more wary?
**shaking head** Sadly, I’m thinking it is all those rolled into one. They’ve chosen to look at the story of the Drowned City as myth, I guess. There are only a handful in the Courtyard that realize the truth.
69. The Sanguinati give new meaning to the word punishment. *shudder*
**shudders along with you!**
70. Who were the women who killed the messenger (lol, no pun intended)?
Elementals… but I not sure which. Was the white-haired one Winter, just in an older version, since she was at her strongest? Do they appear at different ages, depending on how early or late in the season it is?
71. OMG! Is Asia delusional or what?! She still thinks she is going to escape and get her TV show.
I know! Totally delusional, right to the end. She had her own little fantasy going on in her head about “Special Investigator.”
72. So Tess wins the "kill Asia" award. Thoughts on what she did to Asia and what she is - Namid's most ferocious predator - the Harvester of Life.
Yay, Tess! Here is the end result of the earlier pic:
Tess... from FunnySadGrittyGrand.blogspot.com - right before she kills Asia.

73. The Hippocratic Oath doesn't extend to the Others it seems.
Nope. Sad.
Thoughts.
I’m hoping this will be the case. But it won’t be resolved in book #2, since I see #3 is coming out March, 2015. ☺
75. Simon is a typical man - getting angry when the woman he cares about is hurt.
Yup. Very protective.
76. Wasn't expecting the Governor and the mayor to get killed. The Elementals sure know how to clean house!
They do! I wasn’t expecting it, either, but they got their just reward.
77. "He did wonder which one would be the first to poke his head out the door to get a look at the unfamiliar police officer: the Wolf, the vampire, or the Crow." My money's on the crow :0)
LMBO! True.
78. Ferus is in the Ash Grove - is that a euphemism for cemetery? So sad that he died :0(
Yes, it is the cemetery. **sniffle**
79. Is Dr. Lorenzo's interest in Meg going to cause trouble?
I don’t know about Dr. Lorenzo. If he’s in book #2, he’ll have his own agenda. But, maybe Meg will influence him.
80. What was that strange interaction between Jester and Simon about?
I think something happened when Simon “sampled” Meg’s blood and it has to do with his rage-a-holic reaction at the hospital that Monty called him on. I don’t know what exactly is going on with Meg’s blood. However, Simon knows that Jester was one of the few Others who noticed Simon ingested her blood… then he overheard that conversation and Simon is afraid he’ll put two and two together... and it won’t be good for Meg.
81. Is someone trying to turn Cassandra Sangue blood into a weapon?
I’m thinking, yes! That can’t be good.

Want me to do the Chapter Breakdown of the next one?
