Lauren (laurenjberman) @Lisa Kay

#61. Yes. My mother gave me a mythology book when I was a teen and I loved the stories so much I've read anything and everything on mythology ever since.

#62. Ditto!

#66. Nope, no ideas but I have a feeling we will find out

#70. I also got the idea that their appearance changes as the "age". I think one of them was Fire (the one with the yellow and blue tips on her hair ends) but no idea as to the other one.

#72. Really cool pics!

#76. They certainly did!

#79. Maybe...

#80. Yes. I also wonder if Simon's loss of control could be used to against him to undermine his position as leader of the pack. Jester says he won't tell so Simon is safe.

Wonderful, Brenda! Welcome. If you want, you can do some of the DQs, but don't feel you have to, if you really don't want to. Nothing stupendous. You may just put comments, too, and ask for our thoughts.

I just started... but I'll post a Chapter Breakdown in the other thread.

message 119: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments 1. What do you think of Anne Bishop’s world? It seems similar to ours in America, with the Others or the terra indigene taking on the role – be it much more sinister in nature – of the Native American Indian, and with a decidedly bigger difference in the historical power struggle outcome.
I like it , I think it's very unique and creative

2. What is your impression of cs759 – AKA Meg Corbyn? I’m not clear about her prophesy about her death and the guy – is Simon, right? – in the green pullover sweater. Nor her seeing Simon in that white room she’s trapped in, “pacing and snarling.” What did you make of this?
I thought it sounded like a hospital room and Simon is snarling because she sick or dying . and I really hope her prophecy is wrong and she doesn't die
3. Meg seems like a fast learner. I think anything she doesn’t catch on to in her environment will be chalked up to her being from the Simple Life community and not a prison compound; but, that will probably only work so far. You?
Yes at some point someone will notice that she doesn't know a lot

4. What is your impression of Simon? He’s pulling his hair out over Meg smelling different than prey. Is there going to be a love storyline here? And do you think she is 100% human?
He is not hero material , he EATS people !LOL
Hmm I keep changing my mind about a love storyline .One minute I think there would be and next I think no!the lack of prey smell is something that makes me think there will be a love storyline(that is if Simon is the hero)!
No she is not 100% human

5. Simon thinks Asia Crane desires him, but it appears she has much more ulterior motives. I don’t like that she’s turned her attentions on the new Human Liaison; I definitely see her nosiness causing Meg problems, both little and big. Who do you think Mr. Bigwig is? Do you think he will have a connection to Meg’s former Controller?
Bigwing sounds like the title for the mayor or something like that . Asia is going to be trouble for Meg

6. So, what type of terra indigene do you think Tess is? Certainly something we haven’t learned about yet, right? Do you like her character? Will she be friend, foe, or indifferent to Meg? How about Jester? Henry? Vladimir?
Yes definitely something we haven't learned yet! I liked all the Others we have met so far . The only negative character so far is Asia

7. Do you think the three men who trespassed into the Courtyard were looking for Meg? What about the white van?
Yes and yes

8. Whoa. What did you think about the story of the Drowned City? Sinkholes!? What of the water tax and Simon’s sister, Daphne? These certainly establish the dangerousness of the Others.
I was thinking of stories like Noah's and other stories where wrath of God destroys a whole city or nation

9. Do you like Monty? Do you think Simon knows about his history in killing a pedophile that held that little terra indigene girl? Do you think Monty’s heart is place in trying to get the Others to see humans as more than “clever meat”? Or is he on a dangerous path?
I like him. he is on a dangerous path but it seems he has chosen the right tack

10. Elementals! – I couldn’t help but notice that this type of terra indigene was smack-dab in the middle of that map at the front of the book! Eep! I certainly hope that is indicated on Meg’s map. Comments.

#1 – Very creative and unique. Good adjectives.

#4 – FOFLMBO! You kill me, S. ☺

#5 – Asia is more than a PIA.

#8 – Oh! Good one. I didn’t think of that. Have you seen the latest movie with Russell Crowe?

#9 – Yes, I really liked Monty, too.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments Lauren's Questions for Chapters 4-7

11. That Asia is such a bitch! How dare she call Meg a "feeb". I hope she ends up as lunch!
heh me too!

12. Did Simon overreact when he threatened Asia? If the Others have no problem attacking humans and HLDNA, then why doesn't he just kill her?
Good point

13. I'm confused about the cutting. Is it a compulsion or the only way for the girls to feel something in their sterile existence or the only way to release the prophecy when they feel it coming on with the tingling? Thoughts.
It seems that get addicted to the cutting and they crave it. oooh I just had idea ! what if that scene Meg saw in the prophecy is where Simon is trying help get rid of her addiction?

14. I'm not sure why the Others want a liaison. Some of them seem to be more annoyed at Meg's presence than anything else while others are willing to protect and befriend her. Thoughts.
Lol true but it seems the delivery guys need a liaison to be able to deliver the goods!

15. Hmmm...are the ponies shape shifters too? Do they eat meat like the others?
They seem like normal ponies .

16. Erebus allows Meg into The Chambers and calls her "sweet blood" - should she be worried?
Nah I think he'd be a great supporter and protector

17. Jean seems to know a lot about the Others and the outside world. Did she escape and get recaptured? Why did she encourage Meg to escape? Did she have a vision?
I think Meg was thinking that Jean had lived outside before being brought to the compound . I'm thinking why all of them are girls and if they are born to normal parents and then captured or are they being bred in captivity .

18. The girl on the lake is Winter. I guess her sisters are the other seasons. Is she an Elemental? Why was Winter surprised by Meg's kindness.
Yes that what I thought.
it surprised her because everyone else is afraid of her

19. What about the old woman's prophecy to Simon that he will save someone who will then save a person he cares about? I think it is Meg he saves and then she saves his nephew, Sam. Any ideas?
I think she's going to save Sam.

20. Meg is a blood prophet. Is that why she doesn't smell like prey? I also love how some of the Others call her "the Meg" as if she is unique, lol!
I like the Meg ,it's funny

21. The Others have decided to keep Meg but the Contoller and those interested in he prophecies of the Cassandra Sangue probably aren’t going to give her up without a fight. Is there a battle brewing?
Definitely

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments @ ShoSho

#13 – Oh. Good one, Sho.

#14 – Yeah, they aren’t exactly happy when Meg isn’t there.

#17 – Good question.

#20 – LOL! Yes, it is a nice gentle and subtle type humor that I like.

message 124: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) @Shosho
#4 - for some reason it didn't bug me that Simon eats people - he's not human and people are simply food to him kind of like cows are to us. Also, the humans he eats are trespassers and bring weapons into the courtyard - they are up to no good so shouldn't be surprised at what happens to them

message 125: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments I was shocked at first but I'm completely OK with it now
;)

A Q , did you notice any editing problems? The edition I'm reading had too many misspelling and editing errors.

message 126: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments I'm on chapter 19 :D I was on a roll yesterday. I'm going to skip 2 sets of DQs.

I'm just going say LOVED LOVED Meg's interactions with Sam and how everyone is supportive of her . I hate Asia and I hope she becomes lunch soon :D

message 127: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments Lisa Kay’s Discussion Questions for Chapters 19 - 23

54. Darrell was set up by Asia. Thoughts? Did you think the Others gave him enough benefit of the doubt?
I was hoping they could smell Asia in the office I was disappointed at them. They should have asked more questions

55. Finally, Asia is banned from the Courtyard! Yay! **happy dance**
Yaaay ,does this mean she is not going to be lunch?

56. I did like the tug-of-war scene and it being discovered by Dan the delivery man. LOL!
Yep me too

57. So, Meg started having visions when she went into the back room. No warning tingling occurred prior. If the prickling under her skin is a warning or measuring stick, what was different in the situation? Just her instincts waking up? Her connection to and love of the ponies? Theories?
It seems she is a strong prophet . I think she might get to a point where she can see the prophecies without cutting herself.

58. What was your impression of how Tess handled Meg’s cutting, her prophesy, and all those angry, angry males?
They all have honors , they might not be familiar with human rules but they act honorably

59. Whoa. Way to really pissed off Winter. Glad the ponies are safe. So, what did you think of Spring? BOOK QUOTE: “Namid has given you to us, and we value the world’s gifts.” What of her words causing a prickling under Meg’s skin?
I don't know but I think if she had cut herself concentrating on winter she would have seen an important prophecy one involving the Elementals saving her life somehow.

60. Are you at all suspicious that any of these “special messengers” are one of the regular delivery men that interact with Meg?
I don't think so. The special messengers seem too professional and they only just arrived ,the controller had no knowledge of Meg before Asia called him

61. Were you surprised at the police lab stonewalling the sugar cube test results? What of this “Humans First and Last” slogan; that won’t be good. And all the eggs and firecrackers? At least Monty, Karly and Captain Burke can see though all this.
I'm worried for the people living in this city. their government is ignoring the danger Other have

62. Whoa. “If looks could kill.” That Tess is one scary Other. Comments.
Eeeep

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 823 comments @ ShoSho

No issues with editing in my edition, but I read the hardback. Absolutely none. Did you read the eBook? I don’t think some companies have worked out some of the software issues with those.

#55 – You really think she’ll stay away?

#57 – That’s what I’m hoping.

#58 – Very good way to put it.

#59 – Oh! I didn’t think of that.

message 129: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments #55.Not stay away but I had this thought that the special messenger would take care of her instead of the Others. I know she will be punished for all she'd done but I hope she'd be eaten rather than killed.

Yes I'm reading the ebook Written in Red by Anne Bishop this edition to be exact.

message 130: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments I'm done :D:D loved it ,I'll answer the last of Qs and then join you for the next book buddy read!

message 131: by ShoSho (new)

ShoSho (shoshost) | 39 comments 63. Meg makes the connection between the storm and her prophecy. Did you ever think Simon would be responsible for her death?
No not even for a minute

64. Hurricane is shot! Did AB prepare readers for this when she mentioned how old he was?
Yes it's possible she tried to prepare readers but my mind didn't go there

65. Meg asks some good questions about the male children of the Cassandra Sangue. Any ideas?
No It's one of my questions too

67. Which is worse - death or having your eyes plucked out by crows?
The latter ! **shudders**

68. The bad guys see Erebus as an old man easily taken care of. Is it simply prejudice or hubris or greed that makes the humans underestimate the Others? After the Drowned City and everything else they know about the Others, shouldn't they have been more wary?
I say ignorance , greed and short term memory!

70. Who were the women who killed the messenger (lol, no pun intended)?
I though it was either Fire or spring

72. So Tess wins the "kill Asia" award. Thoughts on what she did to Asia and what she is - Namid's most ferocious predator - the Harvester of Life.
very scary

73. The Hippocratic oath doesn't extend to the Others it seems.
I don't want that doctor around Meg

74. Despite the actions of the enemy, the Others attitudes toward humans is changing and they see some of them as friends rather than just prey or not edibles. Perhaps with people like Monty, Burke, Kowalski, Merri Lee and Heather, there can be more than the wary truce between the Others and Humans. Thoughts.
It seems they are going to that direction

76. Wasn't expecting the Governor and the mayor to get killed. The Elementals sure know how to clean house!
Ne neither but they deserved it not for hurting Meg and the Others but for all the human they put in danger

77. "He did wonder which one would be the first to poke his head out the door to get a look at the unfamiliar police officer: the Wolf, the vampire, or the Crow." My money's on the crow :0)
Haha me too

78. Ferus is in the Ash Grove - is that a euphemism for cemetery? So sad that he died :0(
yes :(

79. Is Dr. Lorenzo's interest in Meg going to cause trouble?
It seems that it will

80. What was that strange interaction between Jester ans Simon about?
Wasn't that obvious ?Jester heard the talk between Monty and Simon and he could guess what caused the anger was Meg's blood.Simon didn't want the news of spread

81. Is someone trying to turn Cassandra Sangue blood into a weapon?
It seems so !the title of the next book makes me nervous

#73 – Ah! So, you don’t like him. Hmmm…

#77 – ☺

message 134: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) @ShoSho
#73 - I don't like him either. His attitude toward the Others is bigoted and he also seems to see Meg as something to be studied like a bug - jerk!

I didn't like him at first. I'm not sure I like him now... but I wonder if he can be "saved" from his bigotry. Or if he is just too easily swayed to one side or the other.
