Hi Dave, nice to meet you :-) And wouldn't it be nice to write full time. Maybe.... One day!

I also see that you're a cat lover. I've just minded by great niece's four month old cocker spaniel and I had forgot how much energy a pup has. But what struck me the most was how this small dog got on famously with my sister-in-law's cats.
My family pretty much always had a dog that I can remember. While we had our retriever we ended up getting a cat and the two go along quite well. Over the years we had one dog and at least one cat. Never a problem. In fact with our last dog she drove the neighbourhood cats crazy when dad took her out for a walk as she totally ignored them. it was sort of 'Oh a cat. I have one of those at home.'
Hi Dave,So far, going nicely - thanks! I released the third one at the end of August. I see you've got six out yourself. Congratulations!

And some dogs and cats do get on very well. Although some cats can be very mean to dogs on occasion.
John wrote: "My family pretty much always had a dog that I can remember. While we had our retriever we ended up getting a cat and the two go along quite well. Over the years we had one dog and at least one cat...."Our dog has very mixed feelings about cats. Cats that are not our cats are apparently exciting and potentially fair game.
Our own cats are mostly OK right now, and may well enjoy a nose bump.
Our old (now passed away) cat was downright terrifying, and had the dog completely bamboozled and frightened after chasing him under a chair as a puppy. In fact, he wouldn't walk past that cat unless he could hide behind a human. The cat, of course, took full advantage of that.
Our first cat was the only one we got as a kitten and the dog we had then was a retriever so the size difference was advantage dog. By the time we had Mandy, our last dog, Misty (the cat) could care less if we had a new dog as long as it left her alone. Our other two cats (Silly and the Gazegan after Silly passed on) had no problem with the dog. Actually we have suspect that Silly and Mandy got along fine as Silly was the one who probably knocked a whole box of After Eight mints on the floor one night which Mandy then gobbled up, wrappers and all (she never touched anything on a table, but any food on the floor was fair game).
That's funny! Cooperation! Our cats are currently Socks, and Nosey who is parked on top of me as I type this response. Apparently it helps me if he's in full body contact and comfortable - or so he believes!
I note that 'tis just after midnight my time so let me take this opportunity to hijack the thread to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Welcome, Rekka.
Clifford VanMeter here. I've only recently come to Goodreads. My first novel will be published next month, and yes it's a Space Opera. At least, I'd call it that. My wife says it's more of a space western. I had a heart attack recently, so I finally decided to get off my duff and write seriously. I published two non-fiction books earlier this year, and now I have completed a scifi novel.I've done comics and graphic novels in the past and actually started as an illustrator and artist.

Clifford which Milestone book did you work on. I bought Blood Syndicate regularly. I see too now I have to go searching my boxes of role playing game supplements as i have stuff for the Star Trek, Doctor Who, DC and Chill games. Never played any of them but have stuff for them.
I worked on a couple of specials for them, including one for Hardware. I had done a similar, "How it works..." style book on X-O Manowar while at Valiant that was distributed with one of the TPB compilations.

What do you mean by a re-make. I consider the 1950s Christmas Carol with Alistair Simms as one of the best versions, but it could be considered a remake of the earlier 1930s version. I also happen to enjoy the version with Patrick Stewart as Ebeneezer Scrooge.
I'll give you that one Sir Patrick was great, (I'm trying to get him to do the audio book for my Christmas Novel), but Hollywood needs to park the remake bus and try an original film every once in a while. Otherwise us storytellers may as well pack up and go home. ;)
In some cases though a remake can be warranted. The SF film The Thing (from Another World) was remade in the 1980s(?). However the later film is actually closer I believe to the original story by John W. Campbell (Who Goes There?) in part because I am not sure that the state of the film industry was up to doing the story as it was written back in the 50s. Granted many films don't need a remake (The Maltese Falcon can not be improved upon) but in the areas of SF and Fantasy special effects have improved to the point where some films being remade is justifiable.

I just finished a Screenwriting class and, gah! I can see why all they do is keep rehashing the same old tales. Producers are so risk adverse, and the process is so about a few egos and their visions. After taking the class, I was like, 'books are better.' That's why I stopped watching television, and then pretty much all movies, more than a decade ago except for 1-2 favorite shows that will drag me down to the television. Otherwise, the boob-tube just stays OFF at my house.
All my stories start as screenplays in my head. That's just the way I see them. The hard part has been to expand them into novels. I'm told it's working... (Shameless self-promotion, but I won't mention the book) "Neil Enoch has done a great job of creating a great novel with great characters who manage not to become larger than life. This reminds me of the way J.K. Rowling handled her human characters in the Harry Potter series." I guess my hope is that the stories become popular enough that I CAN make the movies. :)
Hello! My name is Sara and i'm really excited to join this group. I have been a huge fan of space TV shows and movies, from cowboy beboop to solaris, space odyssey, fierfly, dark matter, etc, etc.. I started to read sci-fi books some time ago but more social/technological driven and I want to start to introduce myself to space operas. I am really looking forward for your suggestions.
Well a good place to start is with the classics so here are two suggenstions from my endE.E, Smith: The Skylark Series (and despite its title Skylark Three is the second book in the series)
E.E. Smith: The Lensman series (you can skip Masters of the Vortex if you want though, a fun read but tangential to the series overall).
Jack Williamson: Legion of Space
That will get you started. I am sure other members of our community will point you to other books. Have fun reading.
Just a side note. As I was typing the above missive a version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra came up on my iTunes queue of songs to play. It uses the Star Trek theme as an intro. Quite appropriate I would say.
Sara wrote: "Hello! My name is Sara and i'm really excited to join this group. I have been a huge fan of space TV shows and movies, from cowboy beboop to solaris, space odyssey, fierfly, dark matter, etc, etc....."Welcome Sara! Cowboy Beebop? My daughter is into that :-)
Hi Everyone!I love reading and Goodreads is a great resource. I am currently engrossed in David Weber's honorverse. While some of his prose and explanations tend to drag, I love the characters and the world he has built in his series. I just bought the latest Shadow of Victory. I am looking forward to losing myself in it.
While I tend to lean toward Fantasy, SciFi, especially Space Operas, are one of my favorite escapes. Dune and the Foundation series started me on this path years ago.
Glad to be part of the group!!

Favorite Movies: Lord of the Rings, Deadpool, Stargate, Star Trek movies.

Hobbies: Reading, RVing (I live in a Motorhome) and traveling.
Welcome, Suzy! I like most of your picks above (not a Walking Dead or Honorverse fan). Where do you like to go in your RV?
Suzy I will presume you are referring to the current Flash series. Does anyone realize this is the third time The Flash has been on television, not counting any appearances in Super-Friends?
John wrote: "Suzy I will presume you are referring to the current Flash series. However, one of my absolute favorite and very campy movies is the 1980 movie, Flash Gordon. I get a kick out of it every time I watch it especially Max Von Sydow playing Ming the Merciless!
Brandon wrote: "Welcome, Suzy! I like most of your picks above (not a Walking Dead or Honorverse fan). Where do you like to go in your RV?"We usually travel on the East coast. Most of the time we are fairly stationary as I still have a 9 to 5 for a few more years. I am looking forward to travelling the country one day and having the time to read even more!
