I thought it would be fitting to make this feed, since I keep running into books that I did not know where books...I've only seen the movies!

One I just found that totally shocked me was The Poseidon Adventure! I remember watching the 1972 movie often as a kid, and then was slightly less entertained by the 2006 re-make. Well...I just found out it was a book!

I am currently reading Jaws, with plans to read Jurassic Park soon, so might as well that one to the list as well! Any movies you were shocked to hear were also books?

Sam | 606 comments Just today found out that How to train your dragon has a 12 book series... prob a bit late to this band wagon but really shocked me. I just thought it was a picture book or something but apparently they are by Cressida Cowell! who knew :)

Sam | 606 comments by the way so excited for the second movie.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9a4P... :)

WHAT?!?!?! A 12 book series!? I never knew anything about it!! And I love that movie and have been freaking out over the sequel for a while now....how did I never know about that!?!?!?!?

message 5: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments I know right! shocked the heck out of me today! :) I love the movie and I'm so looking forward to the sequel that is coming out in June! I dont think I can wait haha think I'm going to watch this tonight.

One of my friends sounds EXACTLY like Hiccup, so even when I am not watching the movie, I get to hear the lines all the time! It is awesome! So, naturally, I just posted on his Facebook to find out of if he knew about the books. Although he is clearly NOT a definitive source on the books, if he did not know about them I feel a little better... haha Not truly logical, but I was freaking out so much I had to check with someone to see if I truly was the last one to know! ;)

message 7: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments haha I do the same! I normally live in my own little bubble and its not till someone mentions it and says after 'how did u not know...' haha

message 8: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) I can't think of any film i was surprised to find out was a book, we had the How to train your Dragon since it came out I think. My friend and I were discussing how we both read The Godfather by Mario Puzo The Godfather by Mario Puzo , did you know that was a book as well? Someone in the pub didn't.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I didn't know Jurassic Park was a book either. But then again, I was a child of 5 years when that movie came out. XD

message 10: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments So apparently I Robot is a series! I, Robot

message 11: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Wait not just 1 book... Wow. Have u read any of the books? Any good?

message 12: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments Yeah its crazy! I loved the movie I Robot, had no idea it was a book let alone a series! I just discovered this a few days ago. I will read the first book and see if its worth continuing the series

Oh man!! I LOVE I Robot!! Never knew it was a book though!! Time to add that one to the reading list!!!!

I looked into them on Amazon and can get them for a good price, so I am going to get the paper backs next week when I get paid. Then when I am done I can donate them to work so all the kids can read them too!! :)

message 16: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments awww what an awesome idea! :) sharing them around.

message 17: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Yup! I like reading the same books as the kid at work so we can talk about them (that's actually how I started the Percy Jackson series) so I can let them know I read the books and chat with them as they take a look at them. We all love the movie, so we might as well enjoy the books together too! :D

message 18: by Lea (new)

Lea Clark | 8 comments You will find Jurassic Park a bit strange after seeing the movies. Bits of the second book are in the first movie and vice versa.

message 19: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments yeah I already knew that because my stepmom read the books before watching the movie and then told me about it a long while ago so I'm already prepared for that! but thanks for the heads up!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Michael Crichton has a handful of books made into movies. Jurassic Park, Congo...

message 21: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
I just found out Congo was a book not that long ago! I LOVED that movie, but have not seen it in YEARS. For sure need to get the book and then watch the movie again after!

message 22: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments the andromeda strain was also made into a a movie! I would make a thread for it but i didn't read the book so I wouldn't have much to say for comparison

message 23: by J (new)

J A | 86 comments Congo could be interesting

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
I saw the original Andromeda Strain (the new one sucked) and loved it!! I tired to imagine how I would feel watching the movie at the time it first came out. Made it super amazing! I found the book literally last night after I was looking to rent Congo from the library on my Kindle. Need to add it to my list for sure!

message 25: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments whoa there is a new andromeda strain?! I only saw the one made in like...the 80's that was on netflix. I still have to read the book

message 26: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
I can't remember if it came out when I was in high school or college, but they made a new one that was super annoying and not nearly as good as the original! It was a made for tv movie that was on like 3 nights or whatever.... really lame!

message 27: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments oh dear. well i won't check it out then!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments My friend recently got into a semi-screaming match with her mom about Les Miserables. Turns out, my friend didn't know that it was a book. All she knew was the musical. *facepalm*

message 29: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Oh that's Gold about ur friend! But I've had those moments so know how she feels :) do u think she will read the book? I admit it's not on my list of books to read but maybe in future that will change...

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments No, I showed her the book when we were at Barnes and Noble and she threw up her hands and said, "I'll just sing the damn thing." XD

message 31: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Hahaha!! I don't know how I missed reading this thread sooner!! That is both funny and annoying to me at once!! I actually have not read the book, although I have seen the movie(non-musical) and musical movie as well.... I actually just recently bought the book and plan on reading it soon! I am hoping it is better than the musical movie. For me, the non-musical movie was MUCH better!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I've had the book FOR-EVER. I've read maybe 3 chapters before putting it down... then just skimming random parts. I've seen the stage musical, Liam Neeson film, and the movie musical. I love everything except Nick Jonas. :|

message 33: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
I have so many books I am reading right now or need to read, so I don't know when I will get around to it, but hopefully soon!! Since I liked the non-musical best I am thinking I will like the book a lot too! Fingers crossed!!!!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I've heard that book called "The Brick" because it is so big! I'm not going to commit to anything that large for a while, so that book is not being read by me any time soon....

message 35: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Haha! I have never heard that term, but I believe it! I think the version I have is abridged. Good enough for me! Should get around to it at some point...maybe soon....or not..... Too many books!

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh that's a good idea! I think an abridged version of that story would be fine. I'm usually particular about wanting an unabridged version, but some abridged versions are pretty good!

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I call long novels "bricks". Game of Thrones, Gone with the Wind, Outlander, Pillars of the Earth, The Stand... all of those took a good 2-4 weeks out of my life.

message 38: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
How was Game of Thrones? I saw a photo where someone tabbed all the deaths in the books, and that alone made me a little interested in reading them! haha

Another one that I'm sure would be a brick, even though I have not braved it myself yet it Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy! The movie was amazing, and then I found out it was a book. I thought about reading it as well, until I saw the size of the thing!

message 39: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Isn't it funny how sometimes the size of the book can put you off but when its really good and you're reading it you never want it to end :D

message 40: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
Exactly!! Sometimes even now I will choose what book to read based on which is shorter. Sure...I will get to both eventually, but I feel like that extra 20 pages will just be too much to handle sometimes! haha

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I so do this too! It is terrible, I know, but I don't want to be in the same book forever! Though, likely, when I do read them, I won't mind.

message 42: by Jazzy (last edited Apr 24, 2014 12:58PM) (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) Everyone refers to Les Miserables as 'The Brick'. It's the BEST book I've ever read, EVER! The musical enhances it. They can go well hand in hand to give a better view of the characters as they couldn't possibly fit all that into a film/broadway play. My second favourite book is War and Peace. Gorgeous!

oh and i have read The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy as well. Remember to walk around the world you have to take the first steps. Don't worry how long it will take and don't rush through it. Read a little at a time. Soon you will find the bookmark moving closer to the back of the book, but by that time you will be enjoying the journey.

I read several books at once, and will have a longer one that I keep going back to for months.

Oh, by the way, i'm embarking on another trip to Russia through the pages of Anna Karenina starting tomorrow if anyone wants to join me?

message 43: by J (new)

Yeah, now that I am more into reading than I was when I first saw the size of Hitch Hikers I might give it a try some time. Right now my reading list has no room for it thought! haha

Oh, and I have thought a few times about reading Anna, but still have not. I was in a play in college that was inspired by the book, so ever since then I have had it in my mind to read. I don't think I could start it right now, but for sure will get it one of these days! ;)

Yeah, I didn't know HTTYD was a book first. Now I really love the books. But yeah, 12 books. The twelfth one isn't actually out, but Cowell has announced that it will be the last book in the series.

I have been telling everyone I know about the series now! I just wish they were not so expensive on Kindle. Might need to just buy the paper copy and then re-sell them or give them to a camper of mine to read as well. Sadly my library does not have them digitally either...

How many books are you reading at once? I usually read 20-30 simultaneously, but it has fallen down to 11 at the moment.

message 48: by J (new)

J A | 86 comments 20-30? Wow, I do 2 or 3 and my coworkers think I'm weird.

Yeah, I think the most I read is 3 or four. I read fast so I tend to just finish what I'm on and move on. I can't imagine doing much more than that....
