Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) don't be silly, you probably watch more than 2 or 3 telly shows a week, of course you can read more books. It takes longer and you remember the stories better. :)

J A | 86 comments So how many books do you go through a year?

haha That's true! But I read pretty fast, so I don't know that I could string out that many books at once. That's the main thing that would cause me troubles with reading that many. :)

message 54: by Jazzy (last edited Apr 27, 2014 12:52PM) (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) I read loads books during the year, not sure how many. i've read 38 on here so far this year and I read a lot of short ones as well that aren't listed here. But I am so very happy i took nearly 11 months to read War and Peace. I never wanted it to end, so i read lots of other books as well. It seems when I'm not having so many funerals to go to that at least once a month i have to refresh my list with more books as i'd finished so many.

Reading fast is all the more reason to read more books at once! When you read them too fast you don't have time to live with the characters and enjoy them. School is over! no need for speed reading, love. Enjoy the book instead of blazing through it.

For me I want all of the story at one time. Then I can think about it, go back to it if I want, or in most cases continue on to the next in the series or whatever. I am a big movie person, so being able to read a book fast helps me imagine it more like a movie...and I for sure think that way while I read so it is fun for me that way.

I have a copy of War and Peace I got when I was in college but still have not read more than the first paragraph or so. One day I will give it a go!

message 56: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I was shocked to find out Legally Blonde was a novel before the movie. Read the book after seeing the movie when it came out, and the book is awful! So glad the movie only took the basic premise going to Harvard Law to win Emmet back because the book was a bore!

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?! OMG!!! I am freaking out!!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the musical, and the movie was okay...but there is a book too!??!?! I am freaking out, even if like you said the book is bad! I will have to take a look into that one for sure!!!

The musical was fantastic. I first saw it on MTV, and kept it on my DVR for the longest time, and watched the reality show too: The Search for the Next Elle Woods. When the musical came to Dallas, I bought tickets right away. It's a great modern day musical.

Yes!!! ME too, Me too, and ME too!!! Although...I did not get to see the traveling show... I know it hit Cleveland when I was in college, but I was soooo busy! Thankfully though once I moved to WA one of the kids in my program has a mom who is a high school theater teacher so I got to go see it there. It was water downed for sure, but the girl that played Elle was fabulous! It may not have been the "real thing" but it was just as good!!! It's pretty much my goal in life to be Paulette at least ONCE on stage!! <3

Paulette is one of my favorite characters. That's why I love 2 Broke Girls so much because the character Sophie...very similar to Paulette. The actress who plays both characters is a very talented comedic actor.

OOOOH! That makes me want to watch that show now!! Never seen it, but I might have to give it at least a chance if Paulette is involved! haha

message 62: by lysah (new)

lysah | 31 comments ok, I knew only after I'd seen the movie years ago that "The Green Mile"... The movie made me cry and I'm glad to to say I've finally started reading the series. *Stephen King* is one talented writer

message 63: by lysah (new)

lysah | 31 comments oh and I started the GOT (Game of Thrones) and in my opinion so far the TV series is pretty much accurate to the book. Given, I'm only in the first book and put it down to read the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. idk if I'll go any further with GOT, still up in the air about that one.

Stephen King is for sure awesome! Not my normal reading style, but I have not been disapointed by him yet! Although, I have only read Misery and Under the Dome so far!

I have thought about reading GOT, but then I heard the last in the series is not out yet, so I might wait until it is all out and everything to read. And then I also heard the show has a lot of nudity and stuff, so I don't know if I will get around to watching it... Time will tell I guess...

hmmm. Was thinking of checking the book out, even if the movie was better....but after reading some of the reviews it got....

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments GoT (A Song of Ice and Fire series) is brilliant! If you're into those kinds of things lol. I am. :) My friends love the show but couldn't be bothered with the book.

What's great is that you can pace yourself. GRRM takes years to write the next installment so you'll have years to do your catchup, tv show aside.

I have heard about the S of Ice and Fire series before, but never looked into it much... maybe I need to... hmmm

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments You can always audiobook them. I half-read/half-listened to the 2nd book and it was so much fun!

I started a few audio books recently, but found them slow. I think if I were on a road trip I would be okay...but just sitting at home I would rather read it at my pace. Hopefully this summer when I road trip it down to Portland again I will give it a go again and like it better...

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Yeah, they're slower than actually reading the book. I'm audiobooking Outlander right now... I finished reading it recently but I just love it!

message 73: by Marika (new)

Marika | 187 comments Audiobook are also great when multitasking...like if you are cleaning or organzing or something...instead of listening to music I will listen to audiobooks!

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

@Marika: that is exactly what I do! I usually listen to audiobooks when I am doing dishes or some other chore around the house.

message 75: by Dana, SuperMod (new)

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
That's a good idea! Although usually during that time I am dancing around to Broadway musicals...not sure I want to give that up! ;)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments I use my iPod for audiobooks and podcasts vs actual music lol. Lately, all the music I listen to are K-pop and LesMis anyway.

Dana Burkey (danaburkey) | 1690 comments Mod
haha Nice! When I am working I only listen to soundtracks, but when I am doing stuff around my house it's either up beat Broadway like Legally Blonde and Bring It On, or "angry girl country" like Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood! :D

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments Aaah Bring It On! I saw the world premiere of that seated beside the director lmao. /random

I listen to audiobooks on my commute to work. I never missed a stop yet! XD

OMG!! That is amazing!!! I love love love the show, but have only seen it done by a high school(and on tv). However, the girl in the show that played Elle was amazing! I met her after and told encouraged her to go to college for theater since she was undecided! :)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 458 comments That's great!

I also met Lin Manuel Miranda when they did a promo tour for the show. :) He's my favorite!

True Blood (the series) were a book first?
The Edge of Tomorrow was a book first?
Oblivion was a comic first?
Dexter (the series) were a book first. (True Blood and Dexter a book? How come there is no Breaking Bad book?)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments When PLL first came to TV I had no idea that it was a book series first I only found out a couple of months ago!

message 83: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I've heard the PLL series is very different from the tv shows, for instance Caleb is not in the series. I really want to read the series, but I love the tv show that I don't want to ruin it for me. I'm thinking of reading The Lying Game series soon as the tv show has been cancelled for a while.

message 87: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I actually found out through one of the other threads on here but I had absolutely no idea Pitch Perfect was based on a book! Although from what you said about it Dana, it is slightly different, I'm still quite surprised. It doesn't really seem like a topic that would be easily discussed in a book, it just seems rather difficult? But again it is different to the movie so maybe I should give it a go!

I was reading this and just burst out laughing!! I for sure about DIED when I found out! Still trying to track them all down for a reasonable price. From what I heard though they are not much like the movies overall... Still wonderful movies though!!

Charlaine Harris is the author to Sookie Stackhouse novels, very cool chick, saw her at a book convention a few years back in Houston. First book is called 'Dead until dark'. I believe some characters from the book get killed off but they have kept them in the TV series :) got to give the people what they want after all hahaha

message 93: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments Yes I have the true blood books, or sookie stackhouse novels as they're called. I'm halfway through the first book but I kind of just stopped because they're a little slow! Once I can push past the slow part, I'll let you all know how it is haha.

Dana if you find them you must tell me! Not even kidding I absolutely adore that movie and I'm so excited knowing that I can read books on it oh my god, yes.

Sam | 606 comments I'm dying to watch How to Train Your Dragon 2 movie that is just coming out... was going to see it this past long weekend here in Aus as Advanced screenings but I read my book instead. It was cold out! thats my only excuse :D

message 95: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I was going to take my sister to the advance screenings this weekend, because who will judge me when I go with my little sister haha. How freezing was it over the weekend/this week?

message 96: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Well in Canberra it was minus 1 on Sunday and again today we reached minus temp. Winter is really here :D though they're predicting a pretty poor snow season as last weekend was the opening and there was no snow! haha

message 97: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments Oh wow okay I've not had any crazy weather like that haha. Today it's 14 and sunny which is a nice change from the rain and cold! I do like winter but the 4 degrees the other day did kill me a little.

Sam | 606 comments I was just telling you the lowest temp of the day… sorry :) we got top temp of 14 degrees today mostly cloudy. It’s when I speak to my cousins in Darwin or my sister in Brisbane when they rub it in that their lowest is like 26 degrees :( haha so need to move north! but then i wouldn't be close to ski fields...

message 100: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments Oh hahah oops! Yes I feel exactly the same when I speak to my cousin in cairns, just a slight difference there. Although I don't think I'd enjoy the constant heat all year round to be honest.

Yes that would be fantastic Dana!
