No. It means both start date and finish date need to be after the challenge start date.

message 159: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Or better yet, book needs to be started and finished during the challenge time frame

Thanks Sonia. Luckily I will be busy Saturday and not tempted to start any books too soon!

Anita Reads | 1677 comments OK. Thanks for letting me know. I have a few books I need to finish before this challenge then.

message 162: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooo thanks for the above info. I was just about to start a bunch of books, but I'll hold off now :)

Do we know what our mini goals are yet? Or do we find out on the start date of the challenge.

I'm really looking forward to it, its been on my to read list for what seems like forever lol

Aww that sucks Nicole :( I've just started it and it has potential! It's really dark though.

Welcome Taryn and April =D

Thank you =) let me know (or Stacie or Tea) if you have any questions.

I think the mini goals will only be shown to us at the start of the challenge. But if the mods are nice they'll show us at least the day before so we can start planning?

*looks hopefully at Tea*

You can look at Tea as long as you like. Unless the spreadsheet whisperer says they're good to go, no deal.

Trying to decide what to read next is made much more difficult by not wanting to read something that I won't finish in time... Can't go for 4 days without reading anything though!

Maybe some short stories?

Oddly more tempted to read something in the 600 page mark to take up all the time!

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't wait until TT starts! I loved it the last time I played. I stopped being a very active member here b/c I got a new job, but when I saw TT was starting back up, I quickly remedied that situation.

April | 200 comments Hi everyone! Just finished The Sword of Summer. Then I find I'm on Team Loki. My daughter is so in love with Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

I have done SRC book challenges before and don't mind moving some of my books around to meet goals.

I'm finishing up a book right now, so I'll be ready on Nov 7th, can't not read.

is it as good as Percy or the Heroes of Olympus? I'm tempted to read it as well as the Kane Chronicles. I'll probably will during the tower teams xD

message 177: by April (new)

April | 200 comments Ok so I love Uncle Rick because he has given my dyslexic daughter and identity. She loves to tell people she's a demigod.

Sword of Summer was good but a little formulaic. It was bound to happen.

That being said, I already have his next book in my TBR.

Some of the reviews I read were about Percy and Magnus having the same "voice". But, since I always find things by myself, I'm going to read it anyway.

Off course, first I need to finish percy #5, and then the heroes of olympus series *grins*

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I just realized I will be out of town on Saturday, but I will check in late that night to see what our task might be.

Welcome April and Taryn!

message 181: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I also finished Sword of Summer. Still not hooked on Team Loki yet. I thought it was fun though. I think Rick always brings in a good dose of humor. It is pretty similar to the Percy books, but not annoyingly so. I've only read book 1+2 in Heroes of Olympus, but it wasn't a problem reading this without knowing the end of that series.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments I'm still saving it for team :P

I've read Percy and loved them, Heroes was ok, but I just could read Egypt ones.

I've been killing time til start with shorties and some fanfic that's not here on GR. I'm trying to save others for challenge, but it's getting harder and harder (I'm out of possible non-TT reading material!)

I'm enjoying the number of Loki gifs in the reviews for that! Think I'm going to give Rick Riordan a miss until I have children and can read it to them/read their copies...

I've been surprised how much more difficult it is to wait for the start time for books rather than the previous way of just counting the thing you were finishing off.

Suppose it stops the initial boost from people waiting to finish things until just after the start.

When everything fails, I go for ty&zane re-reads. Specially the ones done less than 6 months ago

Well, here on NBRC we like to do team challenges. Right now, we're about to start the Tower Teams IV one - 2 days left, yey! - and the theme is Mythology. So. All the teams have names of gods - Egyptian, Greek, Norse, etc... You can read all about it here

This specific thread, is the one created for Team Loki to chat during the challenge.

You can pop in at any time to join the chatting - since we talk about a lot more than the books read for challenges.

You can also sign-up for the challenge if you want - although we are now reserves only

Or you can visit the other teams. Some are quieter, some are pretty chatty, and some have a thing for posting pictures :)

I'm dying to start this challenge! This is literally my favorite reading challenge on GR. It has great little rules and challenges, but I still get to read everything I've been holding back on. It's the perfect amount of motivation to increase my reading levels.

message 198: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments I know. I'm itching to start. My other challenges are currently falling behind, since I'm waiting for this to start to read right books. I don't want to read potential points before it begins *grins*

message 199: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments Man I miss-timed my reading. I thought I'd finish my two books right before the challenge started, but I finished them yesterday. I'm listening to music today at work and it's just not the same as an audiobook! haha Luckily I'll be away all day tomorrow, but Sunday I hope to be crushing some reading because I'll be so excited to finally be able to start something!

message 200: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments Sophie wrote: "Captains: what info would you like us to keep on the books we've read and where would you like us to put it?"

To answer this (finally).
We opened thread for read books. Our is here
Spreadsheet we are making is going to have goalless book tab.
It would also be helpful for you to keep eye on goals and mention if book you've read fits it. In most cases we won't know if book fits goal without reading it
(you can find goals here)

I'm going by what we needed for gladiators (and couldn't find it or it took us long time to find)...
Useful info:
basically anything not found in blurb or main book page and can fit goals :P
- character (first) names and maybe occupations
- number of chapters (with mentioning prologues and epilogues)
- if book has map/quotes in the beginning
- poems or songs in book
- found on listopia/GRA/another award/Amazon bestsellers/NBRC BOM
- there were some words and idioms to be found in texts (I probably won't remember everything and I'm not sure if they are all still here (and too lazy to go check them in spreadsheet)) - tomato, watermelon, leek, parsley, beet(root), radish, onion, peas, asparagus, artichoke, method to madness, two to tango, cut corners, darning, twitterpated, weak at knees, heat of moment, piece of cake, any of tarot cards or birthstones...
- first word in text
- animals that appear in book (not just mentioned, but actually show up) - lion, giraffe, turtle, pet rabbit, pet hamster, dinosaurs,...
- character werewolf, shapeshifter, vampire, fairy, angel, demon, mermaid, ghost, imp, fae, zombie
- character dies (one, more, important, unimportant)
- setting (country, small town, city, farm, imaginary, real, castle) - character lives or visits any of those places
- characters eat steak, pasta, salad, pizza
- anything else you think can be useful information (there are around 1000 possible goals ☺)

(that's of course not all and you don't really need to look for everything. But more info you can give us, less time we'll spend looking for it. Especially since we can use all books read for challenge for all goals we get)
