Tho I'm slow to do so, I can't wait to see the movie!

That being said, yes, it was very technical at times and there were some moments when the science of it all sort of just flew over my head.

Of course, I prefered the book.

Of course, I prefered the book."
I'm trying to keep my expectations down so that I enjoy the movie. I know it's going to be different but that doesn't mean it can't be good.

Lots of technical jargon in parts, moments of real tension in others, just felt the ending a little rushed after the big lead up to it, but definitely worth a read.

Totally agree. Great premise. Good plot. But log entry approach was tiresome. And we learned nothing about his real inner struggles of spending so much time alone facing death.
It was a very superficial novel.

I give this book 5 stars though. I love how he quits working on the potatoes to rig up his hot tub/hammock. And his attitude about figuring out how to water the plants. "Oh well, I'll think about that tomorrow!" I also enjoyed watching my brother read it, all the times Mark almost dies.

I appreciate this point of view, but feel exactly the opposite.
The thing I liked about the Martian is how straight forward it is, without any of the literary pyrotechnics that have plagued SF since the New Wave of the 1960s. John W. Campbell could have printed it in Astounding.

Similar to thecryptile, to me it was very refreshing that none of this was in here. There are plenty of books that get into things like that and I'm happy this wasn't one of them. Not everything has to be about a deeper meaning sometimes it's just nice to read a story for the entertainment and nothing deeper.

I agree with you Roger

I really enjoyed the movie as well. It's the first movie that I haven't found the 3D distracting. It's been about a year since I read the book, so the details had faded and I didn't have to worry so much about what was different. I liked the nods they had toward sections of story that there just wasn't time to go into detail with, so they just stuck them in the movie without long explanations.

I also enjoyed the movie-I thought Matt Damon was perfect. The movie made the characters feel more real but the book had many details I liked. On the whole, I preferred the book but the movie did a great job, I thought.

I agree with you, the science was soooooooooooo confusing.
I really liked this book Very funny, could not stop reading

I´m totally agree with you, I was hoping the whole book to read about his feelings and YEAH desperation, I think it gives the character realism so you can feel sorry/happy/worried for him... I didn't feel anything for him because he was so fake.

I think it made science more fun with all his nicknames for large words making it more interesting for people that dislike dry books
Patrick wrote: "I recently finished this book and I thougt is was amazing! :)" I liked this book a lot. It was an inspiration of the durability of the human spirit and the willingess to live minute to minute if that's what it takes to survive to the next "fix". The story is challenging and funny all at once as the stranded astronaut uses his engineering training to survive and re-initiate contact with home planet.
