I'm not sure if all the details fit as it's a long time since I read it, but I immediately thought of Julian May's intervention when I read your post. It's worth a look perhaps and it's a great book anyway.

Yeah, that's the book I was thinking of too for this. The main character is actually the uncle of the guy with all the siblings, but other than that it sounds like a good fit.

Hello all -- I finally got a copy of Intervention from interlibrary loan. To be honest, I didn't think it was the book that I remembered, but then I started reading parts of it and now .... I'm thinking it might be. I definitely remember the telepath killing his twin siblings on a ski slope and if I can find that scene in this book then I will be able to say that this is the book I was trying to find.

Yeah! I found the passage! The twins were killed driving home from skiing, so skiing was involved. Intervention is definitely the book I remembered! Thanks to all!

Yes, I'm glad too and it's always nice when posters let you know they have found their book.
As Andy says, Intervention links two series that Julian May wrote, and I think it's the one I enjoyed most. I hope you still enjoy it and that the Suck Fairy hasn't been at it!
