I believe they're randomly assigned so it's probably not the same person.

It is another person. Who you are gifting to and who is gifting to you are completely separate.

Let me know if you don't get any gifts! Sometimes, it is a computer glitch that is easy to fix.

Dumbledore11214 | 121 comments Hi Heather I just realized that I have a question which I should have asked earlier. Sorry! The only thing I did on Elfster was creating a wishlist. Should I do anything else? Thanks.

YES! Did you join the gift exchange? Check again through the main link:

Or tell me your name/email so I can double check.

message 69: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) Isn't this a M/M exchange? My person doesn't have a wish list and as far as I can see on GR, has never read a M/M book. :/

Samantha (samel) | 129 comments Shannon wrote: "Isn't this a M/M exchange? My person doesn't have a wish list and as far as I can see on GR, has never read a M/M book. :/"

I suggest messaging Heather :) I asked her about that when I got my person too. Luckily my person has read some M/M.

Heather suggested to me to send some beginner M/M books, but maybe she'll know them and be able to help you more.

message 71: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (pokey36) I'll do that, thanks Sam! :)

Samantha wrote: "And maybe check the welcome/introduce yourself thread to see if they've posted there and given any hints :)"

Yes, this! It isn't limited to M/M, just most people read M/M because it is mainly my friends group that are member. It is open to all readers :)

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I'm certainly much more of a M/F reader than M/M. I've read a couple of M/M romances, but since I generally concentrate on physical books from my library M/M is not often a choice (I read my first M/M book, from the library, in just the last six months) as that genre is not one of the primary genres they seem to choose from when it comes time to add to the catalogue.

Angelica | 6 comments So, I'm new at this. I believe that if I send a goodie, they'll know who it is by my e-mail address, since I'm sending a kindle book. Is there a way to do it through elfster, or it shouldn't matter?

Thanks!

message 76: by Viv (new)

Viv Is there a way to figure out who your person is on Goodreads? They only have one book on their Elfster list and I don't see any links to a Goodreads TBR list.

message 77: by Karen (new)

Karen (bookfanatic55) | 901 comments Sorry to inundate you with questions Heather and having done this for 3 years I thought I pretty well had things down. But I'm noticing a lot of non-book items on wishlist and I'd always been under the impression that this was books and/or gift cards? Did that change and I missed the boat?

message 78: by Silvia (new)

Silvia I'm new at this so I want to send an ebook to my person, so then after I purchase it, am I the one who clicks "mark as purchased" ?

Hi Silvia, I think I can help you out with this one, yes. That way if someone else wants to give a gift they won't mistakenly buy the same one and Elfster doesn't tell you person who did it. I'm actually not even sure if your giftee can see that a book was purchased from their list, Heather may be able to supply that info.

Great! Thx! Although I think now my person will know who their ss is now that I've asked the question when they receive their gift by my email! So I'll wait a bit!

You should be able to gift the book directly from the point of purchase. I know you can do it from ARe (All Romance e-books) or Dreamspinner, Riptide, TotallyBound all allow for that, anyways, just some info for future use. Enjoy. I honestly found it to be fun but a bit stressful the first year I did this because I had all these questions and I wanted to do it right and I wasn't as sure about what I was doing, yadda, yadda, yadda. Last year I just had a really good time because I knew what the expect and what to do.

message 83: by Dumbledore11214 (new)

Dumbledore11214 | 121 comments I also want to mention something else only because my sweet secret elf suggested it in Amazon message while sending one of the goodies and I have no way of responding to him/her :). I do have a wish list on Elfsfer with all new books etc created specifically for this game. I never had a wish list on Amazon I mean I do have one but it is private because I could never figure out how to hide my email from everybody to see. I usually don't need wish lists but I definitely have one now just look on Elfsfer :).

You're welcome and be prepared to see your TBR list explode when you see all the books that get given and then start adding them to your list because 'hey, that book looked really good and I just know I'm going to like it' yeah, it's inevitable, lol and so much fun.

If you use Amazon or allromance ebooks, you can choose to be anonymous when using the gift option

Just remove your name from the Kindle email and remove your email address and you should be good to go!

Sometimes people use the same Elftser account for multiple exchanges so you might see non-book items too. Just ignore those!

I remember that from last year the thing is on a couple of them I saw few or no books, but it's early yet so they probably just need time to update their list. I just wanted to start poking around and get a sense of what my person would like to read. I'll wait and send them an anonymous e-mail if I'm still uncertain when it comes time to actually shop.

Sadly I haven't been able to as we're not 'actually' friends on GR and I haven't been able to locate her. I know I've seen her post things on different reviews and stuff but of course when I'm looking for her, I can't find her. I have time I will persist and be resourceful. If nothing else I have friends lovely helpful friends and I will utilize their stealth skills. It will be fun!

message 95: by Silvia (new)

Silvia I have a different email on Elfster than on GR just because I get so many comment updates from GR and I wanted to keep it separate. Also I sent the person I was paired to an anonymous email and never got a reply I don't think. Where does the reply show up?

Sometimes it takes a bit for them to reply if they're working or dealing with whatever in RL. I know I sent someone an anonymous e-mail last year and was a couple of days before they were able to reply and they were so apologetic about it but they just hadn't been able to get back to me sooner. If they reply off of the e-mail you sent them, then I would think it would go back to that e-mail address, I don't really think it can do anything else.

Tara | 52 comments Can anyone tell me how the emails come through? Meaning, does it come from Amazon with a specific title "youve received a gift" or if from other ARE sites a specific user? I get a lit of misdirected emails so I often just scan through my emails and Spam....wondering if theres something in particular to check for.

If it's from Amazon you will get an email stating you have a gift. Last time I sent something from ARe, it appeared in the recipients library at the top of the list; I know they were working on email notifications when a book was gifted but I don't know if that has been fixed.
