SOLVED. Juvenile Fiction. Two friends and a brother hang out in woods, abusive father. [s]

In this book there is a girl (lets call her A). She meets this other girl (lets call her B) at school and they go into the woods together. They hang out there a lot. There is some sort of tree house that they build in the forest and hang out in. A's brother finds out what they are doing and joins them, because A told her mom that she was doing a school project after school and A doesn't want her brother to tell on her.

One day they go swimming and A notices that B has scars on her back. B always has to go at a certain time. One day B doesn't show up at school and A tells the police and together, A and the police woman, go to B's house and I think they arrest her dad.....

There is one point in the story where A and her brother make these sticks with sharpened points to protect B from harm, because B had been in a bad mood.

This was juvenile fiction. I read it about 4 years ago in elementary school.
