Otto (andrewlinke) This is a series of young adult novels featuring a female protagonist in her teens.

Her family traveled west to escape hardship (might have been the dustbowl, or people might have just called them oakies as a generic insult but been wrong about their home state).

In one of the books they live in a barn that's been secretly converted into a house. A boy from the nearby town eventually burns the barn down as part of an arson spree.

They find support from a rich old man who drives a Pierce Arrow car with whitewall tires.

The father is often sad about his struggles to find work. I think he converts the family car to run on heating oil because it's cheeper than gasoline.

A cousin / friend is traveling with them. She has emotional issues after being abandoned by her father. They eventually find him living as a cowboy. He initially resists taking responsibility for his daughter, but relents after saving her from rattlesnakes.

In another book they visit a mining town where something corrupt is happening... I think that the main girl gets trapped in a part of the mine and has to be very careful because she's trapped near some crates of "sweating" dynamite.

These might have been distributed by a Christian publisher. I don't remember anything overtly spiritual about the books, but a lot of my books when I was a teen did come from Christian bookstores, so that's the most likely case...
