I did, I finished chapter 27 a few minutes ago.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments Neither do I, nor what's the point in all this. I wish Dani had gone into the Silvers at the end of Shadowfever. Will we find out why Dani temporarily lost her powers?

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments How about the characters'personality change? None of them are the same, KMM changed them. Especially Ryodan. He didn't mean to break Dani's finger? Really? She has super strong bones, he meant to. KMM just forgot about it.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments I have one question, HOW DO YOU DRIVE FROM DUBLIN TO AUSTRIA? Ireland is an island and I'm assuming no vehicle carrying ferry is working after the wall fell!

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Unless KMM is telling me that the ferries are actually working in that case I'd be even more pissed!

Sue | 205 comments The series tone does seem to have changed a bit, a few observations. Some I think the two of you have picked up on. On Chapter 30 - Audio, Jada and Ryodon are having a confrontation in his office with Mac observing.

1. Makayla is in nearly every scene but at chapter 30 she's still more observing and trying to control her "inner demon".
2. Dani, I loved that they aged her. Sorry, but if they wanted to make her an object of lust then aging her was the right decision. I was way more comfortable with her in this book than the prior. So far she appears as "Iced", cold and heartless. Hoping Dani reappears. My wow moment was her being aged and changing personalities.
3. Ryoden, he's definitely more human than he appeared in the prior book. Compared to an iced Dani he's normal.
4. Fascinating creatures - Papa Roach, wow what a way to bug the city.
5. Other players - Jo, we see more of her. She was a play thing for Ryoden for a while but we saw "Her" with Lore. Found that section to be hysterical, him trying to out do Ryoden. Kat, Princes, Christian and McKeltar's have nearly disappeared with minor scenes or references to keep the characters's alive. So not much there. What do you think? Did Cruz get Kat pregnant? Could he? I wouldn't put it past him.
6 Barrons, other than an explosive beginning he became a side player.

Conclusions so far: Dani and Ryoden have the drama of this book. Mac reminds me of a stronger Mac than in the first few books, beating down her demons on her own. Working through her issues without Barrons. But, is she the character you are "waiting" for in the next scene? My answer is no.

As for the series style: This reminds me of how the series started with lots of questions and few answers. Expect another ride. So far I'm liking it, but it is a lesson in patience.

Should be finishing the book by the end of the day. So I'll have a few more thoughts at the end, my position could totally change depending.

Hoping for more Mac/Barrons, though Ryoden has gotten a lot more attractive with his "human" traits. i.e. protecting Jo's feelings (weird way of doing it but it fits with the character), he toned down the lust factor big time with Dani up through 30, I know it could explode again.

Fun stuff - Mac going invisible... freaking love that because KMM finally gave us a way to get inside the 9. Downside she's become more of a narrator. The 9 have moved into fascinating, I love any reveals.

You must be further ahead. Haven't gotten that far. No worries. But to answer your question, yeah that feels odd but then most of it does as to what works and what doesn't.

Invisibility - At first I thought it was cool, but it got old fast

Ryodan's grief over losing his Dani - If you were referring to after he discovered she'd turned into Jada. Yeah he in a weird way loved her, I really, really wish I hadn't read Iced. It distorts everything because she was too young.

Black Holes - What the hell was the point of those? A physical manifestation of what the King claimed i.e. the world dying. Honestly. Went no where in this book.

the whole scene at the Abbey - Delicious once you realized it was Dani and finishing with Mac going invisible. I have every faith Dani will be back but she'll have grown up some. Jada/Dani will blend in my opinion in the future. Both have good parts.

LOL I know this highlights your frustration, but the whole book doesn't have any logical sense. So I just rolled with it. But I know this is just a snippet of what didn't work for you.

Sue | 205 comments Just finished it, it's not books 1-5. For me it's a HUGE improvement on Iced, I just couldn't get over the Ick factor. Feels like the series is starting over in some ways. There were a lot of false starts even more than you saw in books 1-5. Nothing really concluded in this book in that way it reminds me of book 1. I remember feeling unreasonably grateful the other books were published because that improved the rating I gave it. Had I had to wait to read it... I doubt it would have been that high. Not fond of cliffhanger format.

Will probably wait for a few more books to be published before I come back to the series.

Yes exactly it felt like first book. There are cliffhangers in each book but I didn't like this one at all. Did they turn him to one them, you think?

Yes Mac the peeping Tom! The invisibility was fun but it went too far. IMO KMM did this to avoid adding a few more POV and still show us what was happening.

I think it would have made a better story if she was aged at the start of Iced. We got a full book of Dani's attitude and suddenly we get Jada!
One thing I liked was what she did with papa roach.

I think Kats baby's daddy is Cruce, how this could have happened? I don't know but it'll be interesting

Really that was an ending? Nothing ended right or ended at all. But as I said, I think it's because the next book isn't available yet.

If I wanted cliff hangers I would have read fan-fiction :). King/Queen of cliff hangers.

After finishing the book I agree the invisibility trick was OLD.

Peeping Tom... love that. Perfect that's what she was.

Cruce... the freak, what kind of hybrid kid would that be. Why was "Kat" protective? Is she in denial? Or is it Shawn's. I think it's Cruce and she'll try to convince herself it's Shawn's.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments One more thing, did you notice how many times the word "rape" was used? I'd say at least 100 times. What happened to the princes was very anticlimactic.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments I'm done. You can tell Mac wasn't originally meant to be here as a main character. Other than recite poetry and think about sex she does very little. The thing with the princes was anti climatic. I also prefer if the aging had been done either at the end of Shadowfever or the beginning of Iced. One of my complaints with Iced was Dani's lack of growth. Here she's literally another person. When Dani resurfaces who will she be?

They should have edited most of Mac's dumb inner monologues... she was horny I understood it the first time no need to repeat in every single chapter!

Totally agree, Mac was not intended to be a main character. Making her invisible was a good way to add her for the purist, but still not make her the focus. She's moved onto a "narrator" type existence. Mac's monologues when she went on tangents always annoyed me even in books 1-5. It was everyone else I wanted in those books. Plus the plot was inventive and other characters kept me going. Iced, Dani's voice annoyed me to. I don't do unimportant information well.

Sue | 205 comments I'm assuming you have read KMM's Highlander series, I don't remember a lot of nonsense dialog. Wonder what caused her to go down that road. A way to attract the YA crowd?

I haven't enjoyed many historicals recently because of this.

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments The last I tried were Tessa Dare and Julie Anne Long. Dare was jarringly modern and Long was ridiculous, the characters kept having sex at the dumbest times.
