Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera #1) by Jim Butcher [Start Date: October 15, 2015]
Lisa Kay wrote: "Added "wood" above, as one of the furies. Also, found something on Wikia regarding your question, ShoSho: They are used to aid them in whatever task undertaken from housework to combat. This fury-b..."oooh thanks. This is very helpful:)
Lisa Kay wrote: "So, Fidelius [spoilers removed]"Yes that's exactly what I got from what he said. But there could more to it than what he told Amara.
Yes, I had my suspicions, as Odiana let her read it too easily. Not sure how easily the escape was, but you could be right, if the (view spoiler)
ShoSho wrote: "...led her to believe Atticus/Attica..."It was signed "Atticus Quentin, High Lord of Attica."
But Aldrick ex Gladius is Odiana's lover. Somehow, I was mixing up Atticus Quentin with him. Too many characters...
ShoSho wrote: "I'm writing down the names as I go! So I can look back and remember who was who!"Lord, these names!!!
Lisa Kay wrote: "Okay, who - or what - is Rill? Is that Isana's fury? I'm a little lost."Yes Rill is Isana's water fury and seems very strong.
The stronger furies (or the ones that belong to people) have names as far as I can tell. There are also insignificant ones that people can control without owning them.
Lisa Kay wrote: "As I understand it, the furies are of the elements of water, earth, air, fire, metal, and wood. (edited) Right? Does Amara control all of these, or just some?"Yep, that's pretty accurate. There is more about furies later in the series.
And that big surprise? That becomes a rather complex situation that doesn't have a quick solution.
Okay, I need to go pick up my book so I can keep track with you. There are a lot of characters, but the main ones have staying power. So, while there are new ones in future books, you'll still have ones you met here. And I agree, Kord is just awful. Nothing redeeming about him as far as I can tell.
ShoSho wrote: "oh no I hope the little ones get better soon, Gisela"Thanks, I just hope my husband doesn't get sick!
Gisela wrote: "ShoSho wrote: "oh no I hope the little ones get better soon, Gisela"Thanks, I just hope my husband doesn't get sick!"
What about you? Are you sick too?
Nah, I'm fine. At least for now but considering my kids sneeze, cough, drool and sleep on me; I might get sick too.
I still have 1 person ahead of me, so I'll catch up later. Sounds like I really need to pay attention to this one, lol.
Nichole wrote: "I still have 1 person ahead of me, so I'll catch up later. Sounds like I really need to pay attention to this one, lol."The first few chapters I had to listen more than once but now that I got used to the world, I don't need to do that any more.
Good thing I checked I thought it was starting on a monday for some reason. Only about 3 chapters in but like it so far, I've only read 1 fantasy trilogy before so hope I can follow along.
Goodness, ShoSho. You're zipping along. I stopped after 3 chapters. I have appointments and errands this morning, phone calls, and a little bit of driving. I'll get back to it, but I don't think I'm going to listen to it while I drive. We'll see.

Maybe we should go back to that. hmmmm

Kate Reading's narration and Paladin of Souls: I keep expecting someone to be called "Learned".
Gisela wrote: "For those of you listening, how is Old Bitte pronounced? Like bite or bitty or bit?"More like Bitta to my ears.
ShoSho wrote: "I stopped on chapter 15 I think. This is absolutely great. I couldn't stop."Glad youlike it! I'm currently on Ch.8, slowly but surely making progress! On the plus side the kiddos seem to feel better! :D
Gisela wrote: "Ch. 16 Do you have any theories as to why Isana was afraid that Amara had come for Tavi?"Oh yes. It's in my post #76. (view spoiler)
Gisela wrote: "Fade reminds me of Goram from
."Fade is more like the old stereotype of a retarded person to me. Goram was more limited.
Gisela wrote: "Ch. 19 [spoilers removed]"He needs a lot more than that. And it'd be great if it lasted a long time, too.
Gisela wrote: "Fade reminds me of Goram from
."You're right. The whole book feels like that book somehow but I can't put my finger on why. Of course the same narrator could be the reason.
