Hello everyone, I'm Derek and I'm 27 years old. I live in Cleveland Ohio. I have recently decided to make some big decisions in my life. One of them being adopting a puppy, our third dog. Another, to start reading more. I've tried this before, and haven't been successful. I seem to read a few books and just kind of stop. It felt like it was about the destination (just finishing the book), and not the joy of reading the book and the journey and knowledge it holds. I really don't know what genre really interests me, so that's why I'm here. Looking to give history and non-fiction a shot. Either way, I am excited to be here!

Hey all! My name is Alex. I'm 33 years old and I live in Texas. I work in the health care field. I have always loved reading but it's been difficult to fit it into a busy schedule, but buying a Kindle and using Goodreads has really made a huge difference in the past couple years. While I enjoy plenty of fiction, history has always been a passion of mine, and I've started to add history into my reading list. I like a variety of different topics, but my biggest interest is with WWII and The Revolutionary War. I've also started to get into historical biographies. I'm starting Chernow's Washington bio and plan to read John Adams by McCullough soon after.
I look forward to getting involved in this group!

Hi All:Thanks for your welcome. I am a 67 year old divorced man. Many years ago I got an undergraduate degree in American history and loved every minute of it. Then I found how marketable that degree was (not!) and got a Masters in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto. That "worked" and I spent time as human resources officer in various companies, specializing in recruitment. Now that I am in semi-retirement I have to indulge in my passion: reading American history. Currently I am reading Washington by Ron Chernow and enjoying it immensely. As I get familiar with the site I will enter the books I have read. I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and usually take a Buckley's baseball tour every second year. Looking forward to exploring the site and mining it for more good reads. My daughter, who is a professional librarian, put me on this site and I am glad she did. Be well.
Hello! I am a New Jersey native, currently living in Indianapolis by way of Boston and New York. I studied art history and journalism as an undergrad and design history as a grad student. After a stint in publishing, I found my way into the museum world, where my scholarly interests focus on American art, decorative arts, textiles, and fashion. I love reading about 19th- and 20th-century art and culture and have a special fascination with all things related to death, dying, and mourning throughout history as well as unknown or under-studied women around the world. I also escape into historical fiction on occasion--it is, for me, a great entry point to learn about different time periods and cultures. Hi, I love History, I have read a lot on Roman, British and American History. Lately I've been reading about English Monarchs, my latest book was on the Norman Conquest of 1066 by Marc Morris.
I love history because it tells us so much about ourselves and I have used lessons learned from the stories I've read. I also believe fact is much more interesting than fiction. I'm always looking for good books to read and people who share my passion for the past. I'm also looking for good books outside of what I've read, I'm woefully ignorant of Eastern Culture and looking to remedy that.

I like almost anything about American history, and I am a big Anglophile so I love British history as well. My undergraduate degree is in English so that also fuels an interest in history relating to literature and authors of classic novels. 1970-1974 during the Cold War and made 6 patrols. I also am a fly fisherman and spend as much time as I can in streams catching and releasing trout.
Hello. My name is Herb Hastings I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and am a retired Parole Officer.Books have been my companions all my life. If there is no "frigate like a book" then I have found them to be the safest of harbors. I have always been drawn to stories, and that is the way I view History, it is the story of all the people who have gone before us. Historians dissect mankind's collective memories and, in doing so, perhaps light our path to the future.
I don't know how often I will be sharing in the conversations of this Group, but I can promise that I will be paying attention and following them.

Hi,I've always been interested in History, especially in how today's Politics and current events become tomorrow's History...and vice versa! :)
I really enjoy reading on early American History, particularly how the personalities and ideologies of the Founding Fathers helped shape American institutions.
Having a Palestinian father, I'm also really interested in colonial history, and periods of intersecting cultures. So things as disparate as Canadian Aboriginal history, late Ottoman / 20th century Arab history, and the Meiji Restoration really pique my curiosity!
Finally, at some point, I'd also like to read more on Roman history. I recently finished Suetonius' Twelve Caesars, which got me even more rev'd up... but I'm trying to not spread myself too thin :)

Hey everyone - my name is Evan and I live in North Carolina. For a long time I didn't read much at all, as novels generally aren't my thing, but have recently discovered that I love to read about history. For the most part I am interested in American History, and I have a goal to gain and end to end understanding of my country's background. I've been jumping around quite a bit, but so far have enjoyed several great reads on the Revolution.
My wife and I love to go to used book stores and I've amassed quite a large unread library. I'm doing my best to get through my stack of "to read" items but somehow I always get two new ones for every one I read.
I'm also interested in the Vikings, as well as some European history.
