Hi Everyone,I'm Jill in Gonzales, Louisiana. I'm not new to goodreads but I am just now branching out and finding the groups. I read mostly Military and War History and lately seem to gravitate to WW2. However, I am interested in most all History. Hi, i'm Feras. Even though I started a bit late (i'm 19 and I started reading passionately a year ago), but I immediately fell in love with reading books ! Especially history oriented books. I'm very interested in the history and progression of religions and how they all correlate to each other in various themes. I also love to read more about the history of islamic civilizations and middle east, especially my home country Syria and the rich cultural aspects it had for millenniums.

Hi Dave from Central California here. When I am not obsessing about Union supporters in the Civil War South, I actually enjoy many types of non-fiction. I find that journalists, not professors, write the best history. I would much prefer a great story to the next great thesis. No one does this better than Erik Larson, in my opinion. Currently reading an intellectual biography of Shakespeare. It is a little tough going, but worth it, as the bard was the greatest master of the written word.

(I hope this is the correct space to introduce myself as instructed. Apologies if it is not.) I am "Santobsky." Umm...after my cats. History has been a part of my life since I was a child. My father was present at the killing of Dr. King in Memphis and was prominent in civil-rights and labor unions in the US South. I was present at many marches and rallies and protests because this was our life and influenced my life-long studies of the how/why of human behaviour and government leadership. The "rights and dignity of man" became a passion, or pursuit. I earned undergrad degrees in political science and English and Greek Literature with an emphasis on totalitarian societies and South/Central African revolutions as well as Old and Middle English literature, history, politics and culture. (I know, as my dad said "how useful is Middle English at a job interview? May as well learn Elfish!" :) As a devout Christian I became deeply interested in Roman history and politics and, over time, it's parallels and influences to/on world governments. My interest in all of these is "the dignity and rights of man" and led me to studies of World War 2 and my husband (a titan in history! :) My historical interests are now heavily centered around Roman history and Catholic history and theology. Thank you for adding me to the group.

Hi my name is Rich Weckman. I'm 25 and live in CT. I have a bachelor's in History from UConn. I've always enjoyed reading, but it wasn't until high school when history became an interest for me. Then I watched Band of Brothers and that was that. World War II non-fiction is certainly where I spend the bulk of my time when my nose is in a book. However, the last couple of years I've enjoyed picking up books of all topics and time periods in history, whether it be fiction, non-fiction, biographies, etc. Looking forward to many more.

Hello everyoneI'm from Belgium (brussels) and i'm a bookworm. I studied psychology and am now a social worker. History and biographies are one of my favorite kind, i love to read as much as possible about different aspects of history. I don't have favorite topics, but i have favorite style of writings: books that explore the inner motivation, ambition, weakness and lust of man with (or without) power. I love fictional history book like Memoirs of Hadrian by Yourcenar or Marie-Antoinette by Zweig as much as History of Arabs, A People History of the United states or even Churchill (by boris Johnson). I hope to learn much more in the days comings, with help of this group :)

Hello. My name is Rosemary Crump-Sims. I live in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in the swamps of south Florida. I am a widow, 55 and mother of a 10 year old daughter. I enjoy reading history, biographies of historical characters, historical fiction and explorers. My current bookshelf is loaded with history of Africa, Richard Nixon era history and history of space exploration. This is where my interests have been the last year or so. However, I read civil rights history and American Revolution history if I stumble across a title that looks interesting. I started using Goodreads in earnest this year to organize my reading life. I thought joining this group would introduce me to some books I would have either not known about or not considered.

My name is Jonathan Sandys. I am a great-grandson of Sir Winston Churchill and am thrilled to be a member of the History Book Club. Having married a Texan, I now live in Houston and have a wonderful little boy who, like his great-great-grandfather, is half-American. Great-Grandpapa loved America and especially Americans, and so I took his advice from his remark to Congress in 1941: "...if my father had been American and my mother British instead of the other way round, I might have got here on my own. In that case, this would not have been the first time you would have heard my voice."
I very much look forward to participating in the general discussions in this wonderful group.

Hi I'm Café, I am an engineer and I love history. I grew up learning classical western history (greek and roman) but to be honest I am tired of western history. I'd like to learn more about other parts of the world by authors and historians from those parts of the world. I am not very interested in war history or aristocratic drama. I am interested in the development of states, ideologies and art. Lately I have been learning about the history of capitalism. On the side, right now I have an interest on the history of the family structure. I am currently reading Engel's Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State. If anyone knows of a modern version of this book (that is, a book dealing with the origin of the family but using the scientific and historical research findings of the 20th century), I'd gladly receive recommendations. I just finished reading Renee Rosen's book, White Collar Girl, that deals with journalism world of the 50's when newspapers were the king and queen monarchy of the media.
Hi, my name is Alison and I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland but have lived in California (near San Francisco) for 20 years. I've always loved reading, but in the last 10 years or so have become more interested in non-fiction/historical writing. Although I learned a lot about Scottish and English history in school it wasn't until more recently that I became fascinated about times past. I've now moved from the Kings and queens of the UK to the American revolution which is also fascinating. Currently I am watching John Adams and Mercy street on TV which helps feed the fire :)I'm really interested in any good history books and period.

I'm Cynthia and I am an European living in Europe (I am from 5 different European backgrounds and my partner is from another country. So pretty much European).
I'm an avid reader but I'd like to read more history books that are not historical fiction. Actually, I'm not a fan of the latter except for some masters like the late Umberto Eco.
But I'm in a history book club, am I not? :-)
