Originally from Seattle (now live in Utah), son of English immigrants, degrees in German Literature, so I'm very interested in English/German/European history, particularly from the Weimar Republic through WW2. Hello History lovers!

My name is Rose. I have a keen interest in historical non-fiction, in particular (but not limited to) British History in the Medieval and Renaissance eras (including an emphasis on historical warfare), Western Classical Music History, Western medicine and also some WWII-era reads.

History has always been fascinating to me. The accounts of each era representing one chapter in mankind's awe-inspiring Autobiography. In knowing who fought before us and how those battles, plagues and revolts shaped us and our own unique migration patterns, in my opinion, helps us to better understand who we are today, what shaped our core beliefs, how we've advanced..and just how much has remained the same.

I noticed in addition to the interests you mention in your post, you also have an interest in fashion formulas of years past.

There are two books you may want to peruse if you haven't already, the first of which is

which covers the 'discovery', trade, political strife and corruption over the quest to procure and control the supply of "the perfect red" dye, derived from Cochineal.

The second book I'd recommend is the classic

by Paul Lacroix (no photo)

which you may find interesting especially if you are interested in daily life in the Medieval period. This classic wealth-of-information book covers everything from customs, dress, trade, laws, to cooking and pastimes. A fascinating read.

Hello. I started to read history and historical fiction from a very early age on. One of the first books I read since being able to read was Sinuhe the Egyptian. It is truly a masterpiece centered around acient egypt. I grew to like other books by Waltari too. I read a lot of books in my childhood and teens, most of which are not included in my bookshelves on this site. After a decade long pause I have now started to read again particularly enjoying books written in 1800s and early 1900s.

Hi everyone! I'm a physicist living in Norfolk, VA, but I am originally from Alabama. I love to read sci-fi, historical fiction, history and science books. The best book I've read this year is "The Martian" by Andy Weir, second best is "Timequake" by Kurt Vonnegut. I am really into the Eagle series (historical fiction set in Roman times) by Simon Scarrow. I really enjoy reading anything (fiction or non-fiction) set in ancient Rome or Greece.
