SOLVED. Children's/ YA Series where cursed wasp turns people to stone [s]

So i read this book ages ago and the main premise is that the main character is transported to another world when exactly half of his body is across a meridian (not sure if correct word/place). It is a book intended for teenagers and was probably written in the early 2000s. It was a trilogy that on the cover of each book there was stones/ leaves with an eye in the center. I know the first book was called 'Journey to _____' and the second book in the series was 'Return to _____' with the blank being the name of the fictional world. Another major plot point in one of the books is that a cursed stone wasp/bee escapes from the other world and anyone who touches it turns to stone. Any help with this would be appreciated as i have been racking by brain for days trying to remember the title.
