SOLVED. Book about a boy and a girl in high school. [s]

I read this book when I was a sophomore in high school in 2005. The book looked like it was from the early 90s or the 80s. It is about a boy and girl (in their senior year of high school maybe?) they started hanging out but weren't a couple but you could sense that they wanted to be one. The girl was kind of poor and all i remember is her complaining about her pantyhose or how she had to fix them because she couldn't afford new ones. At one part of the book, they were both hanging out up stairs of some house and they had spaghetti cooking and she was getting nervous that they were alone and kept saying that they should go down and check on it because she did not want it to get congealed. the girl might have worked at a diner of some sort. That is all i remember. I would love to find the title of this book because i loved it so much back then.

I read the book in 2004, I found it in my highschool library. I remember it being old looking so I want to say it was written in the 80s or 90s.

Oh my gosh I think I might of found it! “The Pigman by Paul Zindel” and it was published much earlier than what I thought! I’m going to read it to make sure!!
