Thora I just finished reading Blind Ambition, and I'm struck with the sadness and angst that Nixon was justifibly brought down, but Bush and Cheney have not been made accountable for crimes far worse than Nixon's.
What has happened to us as a nation that we keep allowing our leaders and our justice department to turn a blind eye to treason?
Webster's definition of treason: 1 : the betrayal of a trust : treachery
2 : the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family

We were lied to and betrayed.

Donna Davis Not so much. Nixon kept an actual Enemies List, and at various points he even had members of his own cabinet and other directors of gov't on it. I think this is the real reason he had to resign or face impeachment: those who had the money to keep him on a leash could no longer be sure that he was stable enough to do what he was told. Not true of Bush or Cheney...and by the way, has anyone noticed that US forces remain in Iraq & Afghanistan, Guantanamo is still just as open as it was before, and Americans are still losing their homes? W & C made good straw villains, but ultimately, their departure didn't change a thing.
