Angela Simon | 1 comments I'm Angela, lost touch with the comic book world for a few years but I'm back. Always read them in my school years and early 20's. I'm new to graphic novels, I finished Sandman a few years back, On volume 4 of Lucifer and starting Deadpool. My brothers and I use to have a huge box full of early edition comics in the sleeve when we were younger and my stepmother sold all of them without our knowledge. We had everything, probably be worth a lot of money these days. My favorite use to be the Scarlet Witch.

message 19: by Dan (new)

I mostly read comics/trades/graphic novels. I am a Youtuber - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7cB... and a blogger. If you are ever looking for something new to read my channel has weekly reviews.

message 20: by Pryder (new)

Pryder I'm Pryder, I'm from Scotland.

Currently re-reading all the collected editions of Preacher
Getting the Judge Dredd Mega Collection and The DC Comics Graphic Novel Collection (although being extremely selective and not buying every volume with the DC stuff)
Slowly buying all the collected editions of Hitman, The Invisibles, The Boys and XIII

The only monthly issues stuff I've been getting lately is Miracleman (onto the Gaiman stuff), Fight Club 2 and Sandman Overture.

Probably my favourite comics writers are Garth Ennis, John Wagner with a wee nod to Brian Michael Bendis. (as well as the usual love of the great Moore's work)

I tend to stay away from most modern superhero stuff. I have serious issues with it.

message 21: by Damon (new)

Damon (drasmodeus) | 158 comments Mod
I am getting all the mega collection but only some of the Marvel Graphic novel collection also. Which ones do you think are worth getting? I have collected the astonishing x-men ones, the Hulk silent scream, and The Punisher ones so far.

message 22: by Pryder (new)

Pryder I got very few of the Marvel Graphic Novel collection ones.

My picks for that would be
Captain Britain: A Crooked World
Howard The Duck
Daredevil Born Again
X-Men Dark Phoenix
The Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon X-men stuff.
Secret War
Avengers Dissassembled
New Avengers Breakout
Thor Reborn
Marvels
The Ultimates: Superhuman

message 23: by Pryder (new)

Pryder and She Hulk Single Green Female

message 24: by Donovan (new)

Donovan I just got the Deluxe Editions of Watchmen and Crisis on Infinite Earths. Pretty psyched. My first collector's editions.

message 25: by Damon (new)

Damon (drasmodeus) | 158 comments Mod
I am very weary of anything with Avengers or Ultimates in it. I see that they have the original Galactus story in the collection and also the Jim Starlin stuff on Captain Marvel and Warlock. What do you think of those ones?

Sebastien | 16 comments Damon wrote: "I am very weary of anything with Avengers or Ultimates in it. Anything by Jim Starlin will be a great addition to your collection. :) In terms of space opera stories, Starlin is, in my opinion at least, on par with Kirby's New Gods.

message 27: by Ricky (new)

Ricky (RiskyBear) | 1 comments Hey I am Ricky. I like Marvel , DC,World of Warcraft , Starwars , and Dark Horse comics. I'm also a fan of the Bone books. My fav person from all of them is Loki.

I'm a huge fan of Vertigo and Image books and also like the big two with emphasis on DC Occult characters. I'm also nutzo for Jeff Lemire when he writes his own work, Sam Kieth, Neil Gaiman, and Paul Dini. My favorite comics are Lobo, The Maxx, Sandman, The Mask, Black Orchid, and Northlanders. :)

message 29: by Greg (last edited Mar 18, 2016 06:58AM) (new)

Greg | 67 comments Hello! I'm Greg. I'm interested in a variety of genre literature, both textual and graphic. I enjoy American (e.g. Batman, Conan), European (e.g. Tintin, Asterix and Judge Dredd), and Japanese (e.g. Death Note, Bleach).

Just read Soul Eater, Vol. 01 earlier today. I was interested to try a new (to me) manga series and this was available at the local bookshop. I found its humour to be a bit odd and offbeat at times but once I got to know the main characters I started to enjoy the book (although the characterisation was rather shallow). Has anybody else read this series?

message 30: by Cindy III (new)

Cindy III | 3 comments Hello. I'm Cindy. I started reading comics around the early 2010s. I did start with dc because I was familiar with their cartoons. I've expanded into other publishers. 2014 and last year I read the most. I'd say Image is my favorite.

message 31: by Marco (new)

Marco Hey there guys! My name is Marco.

I think I am quite new about comics, I've must have started reading and collecting them like for about two years or so.
So far western comics do not get the grip of my attention because of the quality of it's drawings, I'm more of a manga guy.
I am mainly interested in a comic because of how much I like it's particular artistic style. It's not like I think other comics are bad or stuff, but I just preffer certain things.

I am positive about DC comics. Thou I hate most superheroes.
Haven't read enough Marvel to care, but I still prefer DC, or Darkhorse or Vertigo.

I really dig Hellboy.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World and all of what I've read by Bryan Lee O'Maley is just brain orgasm.

Asterix and Tintin are cool AF (I've read them since I was a lil kid so I think they're awesome).

Frank Miller really has my attention, although I haven't found a place where I could buy his stuff (I am not from the US so you can guess why I might have a difficult time finding such stuff).

Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond) and Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist) are both really really good. 100% recommend them.

I'd really appreciate if someone could enlighten me with cool-art western comics.

message 32: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Standal | 8 comments Hi,

I'm CJ Standal, a budding comics writer, a writer for Slant and high school English teacher. I'll be teaching a graphic novel course next year.

I've read comics since my parents bought me a 30 issue X-Men gift box for Christmas when I was in 2nd grade--I think if they knew the obsession they'd start, they would've given me clothes instead. I love The Fade Out, Ms. Marvel, Blacksaad, 100 Bullets, Queen and Country, Little Lulu, Asterix and many more.

I've written Rebirth of the Gangster, which is now on sale on Amazon for $1.99 and Selz for under a dollar. Not that I'm trying to push a plug too hard, but I thought I'd let you all know.

message 33: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Standal | 8 comments You've got some good taste. I know you're not really a Western fan, but have you checked out Blueberry by Moebius? That's non-anime and an actual Western! And since it's illustrated by Moebius, the artwork is incredible! Blueberry

Marco wrote: "Hey there guys! My name is Marco.

message 34: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Standal | 8 comments I should've said non-manga, not non-anime. Man, newly joined and already I'm making mistakes...I also advise an anime club at the school I teach at, so I definitely know the difference between manga comics and anime cartoons.

message 35: by R (new)

R | 2 comments Hey all, my name is Ron. I'm probably one of the oldest members of the group having been reading comics since the 70's! I collect on and off and have been in an "off" period for a while, and although I'm building a digital collection I still love physical comic books (and books!) Don't really care for superhero storylines all that much, prefer more "alt" material such as Heavy Metal, Epic Illustrated, but do enjoy some new comics such as Descender, Metabarons, Rachel Rising, etc.

Interesting fact: When I lived in Oregon, Dark Horse Comics licensed biz software from the company I was working at and I was their consultant. Since they were just getting established, every month or so they would drop off a stack of their recent releases at the office for everyone to read (but I would always grab 'em and take 'em home after a few days ... heh).
