This challenge will run for the month of September, feel free to think outside the box!

message 2: by ⚜️XAR (last edited Aug 31, 2015 12:41PM) (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) 1. What are your 5 favorite books?
Wishes by Jude Deveraux (The book that got me started on BBW romances!)
Saving Grace by Julie Garwood
Q-In-Law by Peter David (Hilarious! I wish they had made this an episode!)
Jinx by Jennifer Estep
Born in Fire by Nora Roberts

2. What is your favorite genre?
Romance, for certain! I tend to stay in the Contemporary end of the pool, but have been known to dip my toes into Paranormal, Historical, and Romantic Suspense romance novels as well.

3. Where do you live?
Fairborn, Ohio (small city 30 minutes outside Dayton, OH. About an hour from Cincinnati and Columbus both.)

4. What's your favorite color?
Blue, but arguments can be made for the Jewel Tones of Green, Red and Purple

5. Name 2 books that you didn't like.
Nobody's Hero by Melanie Harvey
Blood Red Road by Moira Young

6. What is/was your profession?
Never had a profession! *laughs* Does Mom count? I’ve had jobs, sure, but nothing to make a career of. I do have an Associate’s Degree for Early Childhood Education, but haven’t been able to get hired to use it. These days, I’m a homeschooling teacher and housewife, and I’m happy with that.

7. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Tough question! I want someplace with mild temperatures, like 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit at most! However, Ireland has always called to me and my heart, so I’m pretty torn.

8. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Denali Moose Tracks! It has everything I love: vanilla, chocolate, fudge, peanut butter cups…tis perfect!

9. If you could have lunch with an author, who would you choose?
Ooh, another toughie! I’ve written to authors in the past, and they’ve written back, so it feels like they’re friends to me. I think I’d have to go with Jill Shalvis for this one though, I seriously want to find out if she’s as funny in person as her books and blogs are!

10. What are your hobbies besides reading?
I love to crochet! I also enjoy watching movies, playing video games like World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, RIFT, and Marvel Heroes, and cooking (not baking though!).

11. What's your favorite thing about/at TCF?
I don’t have one favorite thing here, I have several! Ezi’s Creature Feature, Dusty Bookshelf, and Finish What You Started Series Challenges are a monthly must for me, if I can fit them in to my monthly book planning! I usually try to keep room for them though. I also enjoyed the Monopoly game, but I read too fast for people to keep up with me on it, because I have a goal to read a book a day. It’s not fun to always win!

12. Who's your top 3 authors?
Aside from the authors of my top 5 favorite books, I’d have to say Angela Verdenius, Kendra Elliot, and Amy Clipston.

13. Do you have any pets, and if so what are they and what are their names?
None currently. When I was a teenager, my family had two cats: a black longhair named Cricket and a calico shorthair named Scoot.

14. What's your favorite thing to eat?
Three way split between Chinese food, Homemade Mexican, and a steak with sautéed mushrooms, a baked potato with butter, salt, and pepper, a salad with Italian vinaigrette dressing, and cinnamon apples. (Yeah, the last one is for special occasions only! A feast for certain!)

15. What method of reading do you prefer i.e. Kindle, paperback, audio, etc?
Kindle almost exclusively, but I do read hardcovers and paperbacks on rare occasions

16. What are you currently reading?
One Night with You by Marie Force, which I will finish today, then starting Fatal Affair by Marie Force.

17. What book did you just finish?
Rescue Team by Candace Calvert on a re-read, in preparation for reading Life Support later this month.

18. Name a book, author, or series that you loved and wouldn't of know about if it weren't for Goodreads.
Pamela Clare’s I-Team series. It was a Group Read that wound up turning into a buddy read with me, Ezi, and a woman named Penni. That Read morphed into reading the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley, before Ezi and I moved it here to read Scanguards Vampires Series, Last Chance series, and now our latest: Night Huntress Universe!

19. If you could be any character from a book who would it be and what book is he/she from?
Orlene from Piers Anthony’s And Eternity. I thought it was pretty cool that she went on a quest to save her baby, and wound up becoming God.

20. Where's your favorite place to go on vacation to?
My family never went on regular vacations when I was younger, and I’ve never been able to afford to go on vacations as an adult either, so I don’t have a favorite place really. My Dream Vacation would be to go on a tour of Ireland, Scotland, and England, ending in London at 221B Baker Street.

Bonus:
Tell us 3 things about yourself:

I suffer from migraine headaches quite a bit, where the only relief is laying down in a dark room with an ice pack. Those days, about all I can do is read, if I am not sleeping.

I’m quite roly-poly, which is why I identify so much with BBW romance novels!

Trea is my Gaming Nickname. My real name is Victoria.

My highest is a level 100 Blood Elf Warrior and a Level 100 Human Death Knight, but I do have one of every class. I played it briefly in the current expansion, but have gotten pretty bored with it, so I only log in occasionally. I found I could never meet my "one a day" book goal if I played it, so I let it go.

Jo-Jo Congratulations Trea!!! I've never participated in an EOTM challenge but it sounds so interesting. I'm in the Dusty Bookshelf challenge for September for the first time as I am new to the group. I think I have too many challenges at the moment to start this one, but I still wanted to stop by and tell you congratulations! I think it is awesome that you got Employee of the Month! Way to go!

Thank you so much, Joanne!

EOTM challenges are pretty fun. We're always encouraged to think outside the box when coming up for books for it, to try to link our books to the Employee's answers. I'm kinda kooky, so reading books for my answers may take you well outside your comfort zone! For example, with my answer about hobbies, you could read a cozy mystery that features a knitting or crochet group, or go the other way and read a book from the World of Warcraft universe like Vol'jin: Shadows of the Horde. Say you were looking for a real challenge for that one: you could try to find a copy of one of the old City of Heroes books like The Web of Arachnos, either read it or spin it by reading a spider themed book like Spider's Bite. There are a lot of ways to link what you enjoy to read to the EOTM answers, and the fun is trying to spin things to fit!

I hope you'll have some free time in the coming months to participate in this, I think you might really enjoy it!

Lanelle, how awesome that you'll be in the area! The local independent new/used bookstore here in Fairborn had to close last year, but there is Bookery Fantasy in downtown Fairborn for Sci-Fi books, Comics, and Collectables. There is also a Barnes and Noble and a Half Price Books in Beavercreek (about 15 minutes away from the base) across from The Mall at Fairfield Commons.

If you're willing to make the trip into Yellow Springs, Dark Star Books and Comics is another good shop for things like what Bookery Fantasy sells.

Further out in Dayton is Bonnett’s Book Store out at 502 E. Fifth Street. Up the street from them, a new bookstore just opened up: Elysian Fields Books and More. They're located at 436 E. Fifth Street. I've never actually been to either store, but used bookstores are a favorite of mine.

I hope you have a wonderful visit with your son! Would you please pass on my heartfelt thanks for his service? Thanks have to go to you as well for raising a son willing to put his life on the line for his country!

Do you realize, Ezi, that it has been a year and a half since we first started buddy reading together? We were reading the I-Team (I think you were in on that one, at least) over in Jennifer's Lost Challenges Group. Then came the Dream Man mess, I mean, series. So, even if you weren't reading I-Team, I know you read Dream Man and that started in August of 2014. A year of Buddy Reads! Man, that is awesome!! *hugs* Here's to many more years of Buddy Reads!

Yes, yes, yes. I-team BR was our very first BR. I started with book 2 because I had already tried book 1. I liked Law Man (Dream Man, #3) by Kristen Ashley a lot. I think I gave it a 4-star. I was the one who couldn't stand those books. Kristen Ashley doesn't ring my bell. Her heroines are do-do birds.

Then we started I-Team at the same time, because I also joined the Group Read at book 2, having read book 1 back in November of 2013. I can't wait for Seduction Game! Buddy read it?

Motorcycle Man (Dream Man, #4) by Kristen Ashley was my favorite of the Dream Man books, and I was right there with you in the hating of KA's books. I've kept up on Chaos because I love Sons of Anarchy and I'm waiting for releases from Joanna Wylde, but KA's heroines are where my hatred focuses the most.

Penni | 996 comments Hey Trea. Congrats!

I guess I should really use this challenge as impetus to finish up that Dream Man series. After all was said and done, I haven't finished Motorcycle Man yet. And that was the main reason I wanted to read the series :-)

I might join up with you guys on Night Huntress also if I can manage. I think I'm on book 4.

I'll have to see what other categories I can do.

Heya, Penni! Thanks, and great to see you!

Yes, use this challenge to finish Dream Man, cause Motorcycle Man was my favorite of that series! However, if you use it to go on to the Chaos series, just know that Lanie from Fire Inside is still just as stupid as she is in Motorcycle Man, and caused me to 1 star Fire Inside.

I'm sure Ezi wouldn't mind if you joined us for Night Huntress. We're reading the entire universe in the order that Jeaniene Frost put on her website, so there will be a bit of jumping around. We just did the Prequel and Book 1 this month, so book 4 looks to be scheduled for December, if you want to wait and join us then.

*I got the arc of Soul Deep (I-Team, #6.5) by Pamela Clare & Seduction Game (I-Team, #7) by Pamela Clare --which I hate the cover BTW.
So yes, I will hunt for our old thread.

@Penni, I wouldn't bother with the Dream man series.

@Trea: we lost Penni on book 3 of Scanguard Vampires, HAHAHAHA!

Penni | 996 comments I'm going to finish Dream Man - I will, I will. I invested a large part of my life to get through the first 3, so I'm going to read the last one to see for myself what all the fuss is about.

You may have lost me on Scanguard's, but I'm almost up to date on Eve and Roarke Ezi LOL.

I couldn't get into that series. I quit after book 2. I fail to see the appeal, but people love it

It will probably be in the archives of The Lost Challenges group. We can always just do it over here too. I've read Soul Deep (I-Team, #6.5) by Pamela Clare already, but I'd be willing to do a re-read too. And I agree, the cover for Seduction Game kinda stinks. Pamela had it have a blue background, which looked amazing!, but her publisher said that reddish colored books sell better than blue ones. I think her publisher is full of it, honestly.

@Trea: we lost Penni on book 3 of Scanguard Vampires, HAHAHAHA!

Yeah, we did, but she so has us beat on Eve & Roarke, so I guess it evens out. Besides, we could be getting her back with us for Cat & Bones!

I know - I was stalking the Cat & Bones thread to see how far in you were and saw that y'all were such fans - so I was pulling your chain. Not that I would ever do such a thing *bats eyes innocently and adjusts halo* :-)

That just makes so much - sense - NOT. Publishers picking covers really irritates me.

No, of course, you wouldn't! *starts looking for the devil's horns that must be holding up the halo*
