Kate (butterflie0405) | 6 comments I read this book in elementary school, which means from 1990 - 1996 or so. It was about a girl who has a specific route mapped out to walk to and from school to avoid the bullies in her neighborhood. She has a map of this route in her closet, and marks each bullies home with a different-colored pushpin. She desperately wants a dog for her birthday, and I believe she gets one.

Her friend, another unpopular girl who is more afraid of everything than the MC, gets the MC a stuffed dog for her birthday. The MC hurts her friend's feelings by telling her to come see her "real present."

It's odd the details we remember about books, isn't it? LOL

If anyone knows the book I'm talking about, I'd appreciate your help! Thanks for reading. :)

Part of a series?
Time period/location story takes place?

Kate (butterflie0405) | 6 comments I don't remember anything about the cover. It was definitely not part of a series, though. I don't think there was ever a town mentioned, but I believe it's set in a suburban neighborhood.

I know that's probably no help. I haven't seen or read this book since around 1994, though.

I know exactly the book you are talking about. Actually it was one of my favorite books growing up! I can perfectly recall the cover of the main character on the ground in front of a tree holding her head because her bully pushed her to the ground and he is kind of slinking away looking at her with a mean look. The cover is also red which surrounds the picture. I just can't recall the name!

The book was also a favorite of my older brother and I believe he took the book with him. I sent him a message tonight if he remembers the name

Keith Schulien | 3 comments I can't either and he doesn't remember the book :(

I remember the bully picking on the new kid Roger and Roger punches him in the nose. I also remember her getting locked into the closet at the end

Wendy and the Bullies by Nancy K. Robinson seems to match your description.

"Wendy and Karen are so afraid of bullies that they have a Bully Log which charts bullies' descriptions and behavior patterns, a Bully Map which shows where the bullies hang out, and a Strategic War Room where they dream up fanciful plans to rid themselves of bullies forever."

One GR reviewer says, "This book is a story about a girl who is being tormented by bullies. If I remember correctly, Wendy has a map of all the places where bullies are likely to lurk, and she does her best to avoid those places."
