So that's why my order with Amazon has cancelled. Bastards Riptide!! Scuse my language, but Aleks helped start that ruddy company!! Disgraceful, disgusting...lots of d words. I've left a comment on his blogpost, and when my outstanding orders with Riptide are fulfilled, they'll get no more business from me. I thought they were an ethical company, fair and reasonable...obviously not!! So angry.

Sofia and I was so looking forward to this :(

Can I hope that the matter will be resolved and we can get the book??????

Mel we really have to think good good thoughts to remove the jinx from our BR's ------- hugs

message 57: by BevS (new)

BevS Ladies, I am really sad for Aleks, he feels that this is his best work and they're denying him I'm sure out of spite!! We certainly don't seem to have a lot of luck with our BR's do we??

I sincerely hope he can find a workaround to this situation...for his sake as well as ours. Boo hiss to you Riptide!!

Ingie Hi Ladies!
I just got home and saw that my order was canceled. Now I understand why. So sad to hear for us and our BR. And of course for poor Voinov. (Still a man, or? What do you say Bev? Have you met him?)

message 59: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel Yeah, boo... We'll find a BR... What do you think about Dead Ringer? This just came out, too, and I'm intrigued.

Aleks is a transgender man, so... That's how he identifies.

message 60: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel Hugs to you, too, Sofia! This jinx has to go!

message 61: by BevS (new)

BevS Aleks looks more feminine than masculine, but he gives GREAT hugs...I met him in Bristol last year and got a load of signed books...and a few hugs too!! :D. He's a smashing guy.

Will take a look at Dead Ringer Mel...catch you later Ladies. Mwah!!

Ingie Epub (fit my iPad and iBook reader) thanks.

This whole thing is such a cluster, isn't it? Maybe he shouldn't have blogged, but RT looks like nothing but a bully publisher, no matter the facts. Not good.

If you still have a copy to share, Bev, that would be great. Thank you so much.

I emailed him yesterday, before he announced he had some review copies to send out, just telling him how much it sucks, I hope it ends up working out, etc.

UGH to this whole thing. I hope it gets pub'd because I'll still buy it.

Mel so can we still BR on Friday?

Ije the Devourer of Books He sent me a copy so it seems there are still review copies available. I wont be able to join the buddy read but I will definitely read through your discussion once I read it. Have fun ladies!

Would have loved to have you too Ije:)

message 77: by BevS (new)

BevS Ladies, I'll be sending out versions of it when I get home. We still don't have reliable internet which is why I'm sat in yet another café at the mo..sooo blooming annoying!!

Inge...epub. Sofia, epub if you can convert it and Andrea, assume epub is fine?? And doing the buddy read on Friday is fine by me. Aleks is a wonderful guy, and Riptide have had it as far as I'm concerned. :(

BevS OK...I've sent the relevant files to the relevant ladies. I've got Calibre to convert mine to mobi, and I'm good to go on Friday. Have just left a rather angry message for this woman from BT we've been corresponding with....why don't they DO something?? Even the phone line is back to being crackly and unintelligible...GRRR!! 21st century...HAH!! BT don't know the meaning of the phrase.....

Sofia Thank you Bev :D

omigosh, soooooooooo annoying!!! at the very least, they'd better discount your bill for all the downtime.

and thanks for sending the file, Bev. I have calbre, too, so I can just convert.

Are we talking this Friday to start? I might be able to, tho I'll be in the middle (or maybe towards the end! LOL) of Wiltshire's "Enduring Night" and then I have to start Janna's "Unnatural".

My gosh, we are so fortunate to have so many awesome books to read LOL

hugsssssssssss all around. :D

message 84: by Ingie (last edited Oct 28, 2015 01:31PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ingie Friday night sounds good. I'm up for it... if I can stay awake. :)))
Thanks Bev! ...Got it in my readers now.

message 85: by BevS (new)

BevS In yet another café using their wifi. Finished Enduring Night a few days ago, again the first half was a little silly but the second half more than made up for it.

Tomorrow night sounds good to me. We're apparently having a visit from a senior BT engineer tomorrow morning (don't hold your breath, I'm not...) to discuss our ongoing problems which of course will not change until they decide to upgrade our 50 year old lines and they won't do that cos it's not cost effective for them. We live in a little village, what do we matter?? Himself is so angry...how can he run a business when we keep being cut off?? Grrr!!

Sofia :( an ongoing saga Bev. Things got better here when the service started being offered by two providers, so they compete for us.

message 87: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel Girls :) I will read on Friday and hope some of you are joining.

I guess many of you know that I'm friends with Alexis Hall and I had an interesting conversation about this whole book publishing situation with him yesterday. Our conversation prompted him to write this post, which offers a neutral perspective on the matter, and since he's also an author and has negotiated with Riptide, he does have better insight in how these things work.

If you're interested, please read Behind The Curtain and if you have any further questions Alexis said he'd be very happy to answer or get people in touch with Riptide...

I personally think this is a complicated matter and am actually very grateful to get more info about this. We are all outsiders looking at a situation that is really hard to judge and understand.

message 88: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel I have just seen this Abigail's post on the matter and I must say I am furious that she took screenshots of what people said and not make these anonymous.
I think her opinion might be right on the matter but that is still not a way to go. As a person of influence she is shaming simple people. So not okay.

Alexis's post is very neutral and only explaining things. That's what I loved about it.

I think it is actually good that you did remove the post, because it is damaging to RT, and therefore maybe for Aleks because I think RT could take legal action because of this. But do be reported for it... I'm sorry, Bev.

Aleks's post is damaging whether he intended or not.

message 89: by Mel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel I will delete any comments I made on this matter that might get screenshot and used for whatever...

Sofia :( this is tricky. We are just readers, needing, wanting to read, not puppets to be pulled one way or the other.

Let's just enjoy our read girls - looking forward to tomorrow.

Ije the Devourer of Books I think I will join you ladies. I have an interview on Monday so I will be reading at a slower pace but I just cant miss out on the chance to read this with everyone. :)

I agree with everything that has been said above and I think we should enjoy the read and not get sucked into the difficulties. Lets hope AV and Riptide manage to reach some form of settlement soon.

My thoughts exactly, and I intend to enjoy the read. I'm removing my post 88 in case more screenshots are taken (I don't even know how to do that...how thick am I, and no replies please :)). What is the world coming to??

Sofia oh Bev :D

Great Ije :D just the thing to relax your mind before your interview and I wish you all the best for that ofcourse!

message 94: by BevS (new)

BevS As usual Alexis has hit the nail on the head. He's always very balanced (<3), and as far as intellectual property is concerned, things are rarely black or white but some murky shade in between.

I have no idea what the 'reporter' on Facebook was trying to achieve, none whatsoever. Anyhoo, onwards and upwards ladies, let's hope the story is worth all the hoohaa!!

message 95: by BevS (new)

BevS Good luck with the interview Ije!!!

It's almost like Big Brother watching over you...;)

Ije the Devourer of Books Thank you ladies :)

message 98: by Light (new)

Light Hi, girls! Just a quick question, is any review copy left? This's been the worst week ever and finding out this book won't be released is not making it any better. :(

message 99: by Mel (last edited Oct 30, 2015 12:09AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mel Girls, I am not feeling like reading this right now. For several reasons. One being that technically the copies we received are illegal. Second that the attention the book and us/me reading this right now would get, doesn't sit right with me. And reason for that is that I don't want to harm any party in this and it could be bad for both.

This is, of course, just my personal feeling and I think everyone should decide for themselves and this is a tricky situation, so...

Ije the Devourer of Books I am quite happy to read and review the book. It is clearly a draft copy and so I am going to treat it in the same way as I would any other advanced reader copies, unless the author asks me not to post a review. I might not be able to keep up with the discussion but I intend to start reading it tomorrow.
