Okay, I needed to read a little bit into the book before I posted an update on here..
Chapters 1-14: (view spoiler)[ Well, the first few chapters were a little slow but they definitely picked up. I love Kaz, Inej, Nina, and Jesper!! Such lovable characters. I just got to part 5! I'm seriously loving how in depth everyone's background stories are. It really makes you connect with the characters! And it's starting to get crazy!!!

I figured it was something like that. I like the book so far. I think it's kind of interesting to see their plans to break into the ice court. It's interesting how the whole thing is happening in a fantasy world. I really like the characters too. They're all so different but it's interesting to see their stories unfold and how they all ended up in the Dregs. I'm really curious about Wylan. We know the least about him. We don't even know why he left home and he's the only that we don't get to see the perspective of.

Aww I'm sorry to hear that but I can see why. Taking a step back from the book, it's taking them a while to get to the heist and also getting into the action of it. I would be bored too if I wasn't enjoying their backstories and the world building. I guess I just like leigh's writing and world building. Some books and authors, you just click with. It's the same feeling I had with the Grisha Trilogy. But yeah normally in other books, if it was similar to this, I might have been bored.

No I get that. It's how I feel about contemporary. While I'm opening myself up to contemporary, I always would rather read fantasy. Just my preference. I'm surprised your sister told you this had a lot of action in it. Most of the action was at the end. But then again I've just read a lot of fantasy books. I would say the action level on this is about average or a little below. But I agree that the beginning was slow and could have shortened. The author could have gotten into the action of everything much faster.

It's funny that you don't like contemporary but like fantasy because I'm the complete opposite. I think she was trying to tell me that this had more action than her Grisha trilogy.

1/4: (view spoiler)[I am already loving this more than any of the three books in the Grisha trilogy. The writing just feels far superior and the plot more gripping.

Bardugo is showing herself to be such a clever writer. She makes us feel a death of a character who has no bearing on the plot by allowing his eyes to be the ones the reader first views this world through.
