Which LIST book did you just start?

Amazon sells used for $.01 plus shipping. That's where I'll get it.

Deborah wrote: "Just started The Blind Assassin and I'm already confused. :)" keep at it! it will pay off! I was also puzzled at first, and it is a puzzling book indeed, but I really liked it!
Mikela wrote: "I just began The Feast Of The Goat. Haven't previously read anything by this author so don't know just what to expect." Exactly like me! I hadn't read anything by Llosa, but I quite liked it and plan to read more from him. He is very good at setting ambiances and giving depth to his characters. Enjoy!
Deborah wrote: "Just started The Blind Assassin and I'm already confused. :)"The beginning of the book is kinda confusing. It starts to get more clear around the middle of the book. I liked it also.

Thanks for the comments, Viviana and Mekki. I will hang in there!

I feel the same way!
Starting Madame Bovary by Flaubert this morning. Haven't read a French Lit book since I read The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas which I enjoyed.
Sostiene PereiraPereira Declares: A Testimony - Tabucchi
The Once and Future King
The Once and Future King - White
The second is a re-read from years ago, but the Brit's favorite legend is always worth a revisit.
just started Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I've owned it for ages and have been in denial that in order to complete 1001 I need to tackle some of the massive books. So, here we go!
I am about 1/3 through American Rust, and I am absolutely loving this book! I was very skeptical about a book published in 2009 being a "book you must read before you die", but I can clearly see why this book was included.
Just started The Guide by Narayan, also going to have a look on the library website to find some books off the list.
I'll be starting Kundera's "Ignorance" later today.Still working on my re-read of "The Once and Future King" by White as well.
Ignorance
The Once and Future King
Linda wrote: "About 50 pages into "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler," Italo Calvino."I loved that one. Just go with and enjoy the ride, Linda! I've never read anything like it!
Katrina wrote: "Started Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris which looks to be a fun read."I just ordered this one and expect to really enjoy it also.
Working my way through Tom Jones by Henry Fielding. I expected to dislike it, mainly because of its length and the 250 year old English, but have been shocked to find that I'm enjoying it very much.
Started Dictionary of the Khazars. What an exceptionally odd book that is... I've never been one for literature that tries as hard as it can to be completely obfuscating and incomprehensible. it may be the hallmark of "True Art", but, really...
I'm about 70 pages into The Elegance of the Hedgehog and I'm struggling to stay focused. I missed out on this one being the book of the month a few months ago. I keep finding myself at the end of the page and realizing I have no clue what I just read. Hope it gets better.
I'm about 60 pages into The Old Devils and really struggling to finish it. Why this is on the list is totally beyond me. Maybe I need a break from 1001 books.
I'm just starting to read Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. I'm just wondering if I ever will finish it 'cause it such a big classic.

It took a bit to get used to, but then I really enjoyed reading it in a random order (look at the status updates), switching sections as a particular word or phrase caught my attention. I did, eventually, find myself putting a check mark next to the entries as I went, so as not to re-read the same section too many times.
Started Three Lives by Stein, not earth shattering, and not appreciating the remarks in the second story.
I am lucky in that my memory is really quite good, so I can read it in order, simply remembering the information from the appropriate parallel sections as I go, or skip around and know what I already read, as i choose. But generally, I have never been fond of novels where the author seems basically to say "look how smart and postmodern I really am!" Perhaps it's merely an indication of my lack of taste, or something.
Mikela wrote: "I'm about 60 pages into The Old Devils and really struggling to finish it. Why this is on the list is totally beyond me. Maybe I need a break from 1001 books."that's one of the worst books on the list by a LONG way. It's not you that needs to take a break. It's the entire Amis family as far as I'm concerned.
I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who wasn't impressed with this book, but finishing this book just about wiped me out. It's time now to hit some pleasure reading and leave the list aside for awhile.
Annina wrote: "I'm just starting to read Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. I'm just wondering if I ever will finish it 'cause it such a big classic."I'm absolutely loving it!! I'm taking regular breaks though to read shorter books as well - currently reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, which I'm a bit disappointed with so far!
Calyre wrote: "Currently reading One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich"Solzhenitsyn was one of my favourite writers, until I discovered how anti-Semitic he could be. I did love The First Circle a great deal, though.
